How big is 20 inches in diameter?
Not too long ago I remember that we discussed the size of a predator's stomach which contained a 160 pound person inside. But, what does an object look like as far as a picture of something that's 20 inches in diameter?

Very large rims on a car are often 20" in diameter. Or were you looking for more of a sphere size?

Think of a fairly large beach ball, that's a good example.

hmmm, a huge beach ball maybe..?
I'm not sure I understand your question correctly however. Figuring out how big 20 inches are - just use a ruler.. ?

I wouldn't really say giant beach ball. It's good sized though, about 5 or so inches wider than my shoulders. You could fit a curled up person in a ball that size, though it would be a tight fit for sure.

its a foot and 8 inches. in diameter. and diameter if you don't know, is the longest possible straight line between two oppositely positioned points on the outside of a circle.

Well, i think that is assumign the person was using all available space in said sphere, which would mean it applied after they'd been digested some. Anyway, its almost two feet in diameter. You ever go to wal-mart and see those huge bouncy balls they have in the big bins? They're kind of marbled in coloration and normally pastels. Anyway, I THINK those around that size.

I'm fairly certain that they're only 16-18 inches in diameter, actually. 20 inches would be a bit bigger than that. And for the record an average adult human can be fit into a sphere of that size. Not comfortably, perhaps, but it can be done. I know this, as I have put myself into one of those balls once it had split along a seam. Also, I recommend against doing this, as it took myself and my friend with a knife to extract me once I was in, and I then required a chiropractor.

Would anyone mind taking a picture of themselves and the big ball next to them?
Perhaps, place the ball onto your stomach to show how it would look.

It's about 2.42 ft^3, if we're talking about spheres.
A tad small, if I do say so myself.

Re: How big is 20 inches in diameter?
Um, I had to do a bit of conversion to calculate this, but the end result was that the volume of a 160 pound person compleatly fills a sphere of 20 inches in diameter, meaning it is a liquified person, or you have to add lumps to the sphere (or choose a smaller meal)
160 pounds => 160 x 0.454 = 72.64 Kg
people are neutrally boyant in water meaning dencity is that of water => 72.64 Kg = 72.64 liters = 0.07264 m^3
Volume = 4/3 x pi x radius^3 => Radius = thirdroot of(3volumes/4pi)
which in our case gives a radious of 25.9 cm => diameter of 51.8 cm (51.8/2.54 = 20.4) or 20.4 inches.

Re: How big is 20 inches in diameter?
So would an undigested person form a 40 inch in diameter belly?
And what about a 104 pound or a 70 pound child inside the belly of an adult man or woman?
Sorry if these questions sound stupid, but I'm not a math person.

Re: How big is 20 inches in diameter?
Nah I don't think the volume would be that much different, in a foetal position there's really not that much wasted space, however, the person isn't very spherical. (more like a softedged rectangular block with some lumps in it )
As for the liquified 70 pound kid, that'd be a sphere of 39.3 cm in diameter (or 15.5 inches)
Edit: Missed the 104 pounder... 44.8 cm or 17.7 inches

Re: How big is 20 inches in diameter?
The whole notion doesn't make much sense because a human:
1. cannot roll up into a spherical shape, until the body is in an advanced state of digestion with the bones disarticulated (even then the long legbones would be longer than the sphere, making it lumpy.
2. would choke to death on anything larger than a hen's egg
3. Is incapable of dissolving bones larger than those of a small fish, like most mammals.
A large crocodile would be a far more suitable predator, and does have a fairly 'round' stomach, as well as the ability to swallow and completely dissolve a human body.

Re: How big is 20 inches in diameter?
Measure something 20 inches, like a small person's waist or shoulders with some measuring tape that people use to make clothes, then get a ball that round.
I know a guy with a waist 20 inches, he's tiny.
Wait is 20 In. in daimeter the center of the circle, then it goes 360 degrees? I just thought it was a circle 20 inches, my bad. But yeah that seems pretty big.
