Sprite Artist Needed for Vore Beat-Em-Up
Or as I like to call it, an Eat-Em-Up.
So as the topic title suggests, I am making a beat-em-up with a voracious twist! But I have not an ounce of artistic ability in me, having traded it all for coding powers. Thus, I need someone to create the graphics of this game for me!
For those of you who think this project will most likely never get off the ground, fear not! For I have already finished pretty much the entire game system and mechanics. All I need now is to actually make levels and bosses, and get graphics for everything.
I have even included a little demo of the system I have made!
Control your black box person as you fight and devour the red box people! Watch their healthbars slowly tick away as they digest! Watch your healthbar slowly tick away as you digest!
Controls:
Arrow Keys: Move
Z: Jump
X: Light Attack
C: Heavy Attack (looks identical to light attack, but does a bit more damage)
V: Vore Attack (I forgot to make the attackbox for this visible, but trust me, it works! You'll know when the enemies vanish after you use it.)
B: Spawn Enemy (places them in a random spot in the room)
R: Reset game
Enemies have a very basic AI! It mostly consists of standing there, maybe moving towards you, and maybe attacking you when you're in range. Enemies can eat you, but they'll only try if your health is low enough for them to succeed first. If you are eaten, you can mash the arrow keys (and only the arrow keys) to escape!
Known bugs:
Attacking while jumping won't do much, due to how hitboxes are currently set up. To be fixed later.
Enemies currently cannot distinguish the player's position on the y-axis. This means that if you're close to them horizontally, but standing a bit up or down relative to them, they'll just stand there spamming attacks at the air. Will fix eventually.
If you can get multiple enemies to group together, you can hit all of them at once with one attack. This also includes your vore attack, allowing you to eat multiple enemies at once. This kinda screws with HUD, though I don't think it completely breaks the game. There is definitely no easy fix for this, but I will try!

Not a bad demo. Little bug I found though. If multiple enemies are gathered in one specific spot, I was able to have the black box representing the main character consume a huge number of em as if they were only one enemy. Found that out by spam spawning a bunch of enemies.

If only I was more half decent, I would possibly like to help out :T
Good luck on the project, it seems like it would have potential!

Hey, curious, but how are you supposed to implement sprites into the game?

Honestly, implementing multiprey wasn't all that difficult. The hard part was getting their names and health boxes to display properly in the HUD.

Honestly I find your sprite work along the lines of what I'd want for this game. I want to make a cartoony BEU, sorta like the Scott Pilgrim game. You need more confidence in yourself!

Judicious application of the sprite_index() function. I did try and make some sprites as well, and some of them are actually still in the game (just unused), but I didn't like how they turned out, which is why I want someone else to handle them for me.

Well, could you give some examples of poses and things you are looking for?

Are you offering to sprite for me? Because if so, we should probably take this to PM. Although if you want to make some base beat em up sprites to prove competency, that's fine. I'm mostly looking for basic beat em up poses anyway, walking, punching, kicking, etc. I imagine the vore attack as a grab, and the jumping attack as a flying kick. I don't know if I want the jumping vore attack to be some crazy jumping grab thing, or a Flying Unbirth attack. Probably the former, since unbirth isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Well, not offering per se, but if I were to get the time to actually do it, it would be neat to know what would be needed for a character.
What kind of size are we talking about here in terms of pictures?

The current boxes in the demo are 64x96 pixels large. You don't have to make the sprites that big (I can adjust the hitboxes pretty easily), though you obviously shouldn't make them too small either. Go with whatever dimensions you think are best, we can work something out.

The Scott Pilgrim game with vore, that would be AMAZING to me. I'd certainly pay for that. And multi-vore possibly too? I need to not get too excited lol. Please if this happens have a god mode where you can just eat everything with no resistance.

Not quite what I'm looking for, sorry. But I appreciate the effort!
Also, I apologize for my lack of posting. I wanted to post when I had made some progress in coding this game, but I'm afraid I haven't seen much luck yet. I'm trying to get the player and enemies to properly collide with each other, so that you don't get a bunch of enemies clumping together in one spot as they chase the player, but it's proving to be trickier than I expected.
