Hmmm, might be interesting to see some of the spells you envision for each of these two methods. As of now it is hard to picture what could happen in either one. But i'm not good at how modern games make spells and magic as i'm too old school and D&D bound, so... me not seeing potentials here isn't necessarily bad >_>

These are based heavily on the sorcerer and wizard distinction in D&D, but the casting and manifestations of the spells are different. If you've been following the Sam/Gertrude battle, you've seen some soulcasting already. Once I introduce Clyde, you'll see mindcasting in action. Of course, those are by no means the only applications of these methods.

I was wondering about the parallels to that 3rd edi split in magic-users. And though I have followed the Sam/Gertrude battle, it isn't like you named the spells they used. And even if you did, i'd think every soul-caster would have their own unique spells as everyone's inner self is slightly different from anyone else's.

I will just keep watching and let you show us your world over the course of the rest of the story.

You pretty much got it. Note that Sam didn't kill her opponent. Not all soulcasters are nonlethal like that.

I must say I really do like these illustrated teachings.

They appear to be similar mechanically to the DnD sorcerer/wizard dichotomy. Though normally I see wizards being more respected (or at least trusted) than sorcerers.

That's what it's based on, but they do work differently. I basically took the two concepts to their logical conclusions. Soulcasters have more power -right now-, but mindcasters can potentially do anything if they figure out how.
Kinda like the difference between traditional magic and science.

Nnngh, I'm so tempted to discuss with you some of the various things that could happen. <3 What magic itself is, how people use it, the various forms of... In your words, 'mindcasting' can be done, how personal beliefs both soul casting and mind casting, and all that. :D Eeee~... Got my nerd going. x3

I don't mind if you wanna talk about it. It's all fictional, after all!
