I just want to be me and point out that since silver is harder than lead (which normal bullets are made of), silver bullets wouldn't squash so much on impact and therefore would actually make a noticabley smaller hole.

I've been at a convention presentation by werewolf writer Patricia Briggs and her husband, where they talked about how they learned to forge silver bullets as research for their novels, and the results of firing them. They effectively act like armor-piercing rounds. :) But they're supposedly what you need to kill a werewolf, so…
