If I recall correctly, it's for the latin verb "Vorare" and in fact, that's the word "Devour" in latin. The word was "Phagos" in Greek, the language immeadiately proceeding the Latin one. So I have no idea what you mean unless the word jumped from Persian to Latin, which also makes little sense as it goes Phonecian>Greek>Latin, even if the Greek have Persian influences, the word would have had to have changed away and back so... "khor"?
