Well, Last Night Sucked

Permanent Linkby Kooshmeister on Thu Oct 12, 2017 12:30 pm

It isn't enough that I don't have a car and have to walk everywhere, sometimes life has to throw me a metaphorical slap in the face, too. Last night, I was walking to Walmart I needed groceries. Part of the walk to get there involves crossing a kind of intersection by the parking lot of a small shopping center. It's shaped like a plus sign ("+"). People leaving a parking lot can go left, right or straight ahead. Almost nobody goes straight ahead. As I was crossing, though, someone did. I'd only just stepped off the curb, though, so I stopped where I was to let them pass. Well, apparently the driver decided to teach me a lesson. They intentionally made a sudden swerve towards me, whipped past me so close their front right tire was only a foot or so from my feet, honking their horn loudly, before continuing on. The windows were tinted so I couldn't see inside, and it was dark and happened too fast for me to get the license plate.

After this, I was so shaken I decided not to continue on to Walmart. But, being hungry, I decided to stop by Cookout to get some food. It's a small hamburger and hot dog joint in the aforementioned little shopping center. I'm pretty sure that's where the driver who swerved at me came from; I'm convinced they were a teenager or twentysomething, because every night around that same time, an army of the privileged little shits descend upon Cookout in their noisy muscle cars, pickup trucks and SUVs. They're loud, crude and generally have the right kind of attitude to playfully swerve at someone trying to cross the street - twice before, I've had them lean out their windows and scream at me as they sped past me while I was walking along the side of the road, so I wouldn't put it past their crowd to scare someone the way this one driver scared me.

I ordered a plain hot dog, a chili dog, some fries, some hush puppies and a large Dr Pepper. As I was handed the bag, I noticed the receipt on it only had the hot dog, chili dog, hush puppies and drink; they'd forgotten my fries. I know why, too; when I was rattling off what I wanted, the guy taking my order interrupted me to ask me what I wanted on my hot dog. My plain hot dog. The hot dog that is plain. So I don't think he heard the fries. But, no biggie. Annoying, yeah, but it wasn't like I was charged for something I didn't get, right? That'd be stupid.

Then I got home and discovered the bag contained only the chili dog and the hush puppies. The plain hot dog he'd been so concerned about getting right, the one I was charged for, existed only on the receipt. I was too tired to bother going back. I was also worried they'd accuse me of lying and refuse to give me the hot dog. I'm very disappointed because this is the first bad experience I've had with Cookout; they've been very good to me up until now. Oh well. Let's hope this is just an isolated incident.

So, yeah, last night sucked.

Is it wrong of me to hope that guy crashes his car? Not that I want him to get hurt, I just think losing the car would be an appropriate consequence of what he did.

Sorry man, people are horrible. I don't have a car either and I swear it's a constant war between the cars and the cyclists.
