Simple Question

Permanent Linkby Chameleonette on Wed Feb 04, 2015 10:22 pm

An anon on tumblr prompted a question I have for the community here.

I do, in fact, have a small slew of both short and long gratuitous vore scenes/scenarios/stories that I have written and have not shared anywhere. This is largely in part because I wrote those stories for myself instead of for a general audience. And they pretty much all feature my favorite pairing (canon characters from an anime) to play with in vore situations. Most of you can probably already guess who that is, but...

My simple question is this: If I were to upload those somewhere, would anyone be interested in reading them? I'm highly embarrassed, since I basically mapped out a bunch of my own personal fantasies with these (ranging from demi-human mermen to human, part-fox, giants, dragon-men---etc). They all feature M/F (of course), unwilling prey, implied digestion, lots of struggling, suspension of belief and plot holes, and some are very sexually-charged, and as I said, were basically not meant to be full-fledged stories, but vore word dumps I wrote for purely for enjoyment. And it's all the same pairing.

I'm asking this because... if I were to upload these, it would likely be somewhere in secret (like a google doc or the like) and I would have to grant access to people. I don't think I would be comfortable uploading them onto this site, for instance (unless there was a way to do it privately to give people access), nor on tumblr or other big sharing sites.

If you're not interested, that's fine and I completely understand (I don't mind keeping them hidden on my computer), but I'm going to put this out there to see if there is any interest in me possibly sharing these, since it was brought up. I otherwise can't promise that any of these would reach actual story status to be uploaded down the line (though it's possible if I were to get a burst of courage or something).

So if you'd possibly like to read them, let me know. If not, feel free to tell me that too, if you like.

Thanks for your time, everyone.

The more important question is, are you actually comfortable with sharing them? It sounds like you don't really want to do so. Whether people want to see them or not is immaterial if it makes you uncomfortable to do so. Sharing things you've written can be a very intimate, and intimidating, thing. Unlike pictures, the audience is smaller, and there's less ambiguity and room for personal interpretation/projection of internal fantasy. Even if someone asks to see your stories, that doesn't mean they will react positively once they do. And once granted access to a story, you can't take that back off them.

At the same time, as a writer myself, I understand the importance for others to give feedback and constructive criticism if you wish to improve. Maybe, instead of offering openly here (I see no real distinction between sending a story to anyone who messages you and just posting it publicly to be honest), you should find people you can trust to be honest without being either gratuitously cruel *or* effusive (blind praise can be as harmful as someone just being a total bastard), and politely deflect people you don't know or trust to behave in a way that won't just leave you feeling violated. People who have some idea what they're talking about, too. Other writers or something.

Build up to things. Get feedback from people who aren't just going to screw you over, and if that makes you confident enough to brave the general public, or at least the wider community of voreaphiles in this case, you can still do so.

Well, I'm sort of on the fence. On one hand, it's really embarrassing to even consider for reasons I already went over, but on the other... well, I'd like to have someone to share them with, you know? I do have a friend who I know would read them (for the pairing alone), but we're not all that close anymore and she doesn't really care for vore, so that completely stops me from sharing them with her. I'd want to share them with people who I know may enjoy them, but that's difficult to tell in a community like this, beyond just outright asking this way. I don't know that many people in this fetish and not a single person well enough that I'd say "That's my go-to person to share stuff with!" or anything. I don't make friends that easily and so I'm kind of left at an impasse. I could turn them into short stories and post on the site, but that opens it to everyone---and regardless of what you said, it's NOT the same as just sharing them with a few people, even if some happened not to like them after reading. It's worlds different. Plus, putting them directly out there also puts me more at risk of someone from the fandom stumbling across them and I definitely don't want that.

If you would allow it, I would read them. Do make sure you're comfortable with it though and if need be I could provide critique-like feedback, or no feedback at all.

I admit, I hadn't considered that people without the vore community but within the fandom of whatever pairing it is in anime might find it. When you put it like that, sending it to anyone who explicitly asks rather than posting it publicly makes more sense. I apologise. My intention wasn't to dissuade you, but to point out that it's really your choice. Don't feel pressured into it if you don't feel comfortable.

It is a difficult position you're in. I know what it is like to find it hard to make friends, and I don't really know many people in this community either, except in passing. Trusting someone with something like this would be very difficult if I were you. Ultimately, it's up to you. I'd be interested in seeing your stories myself, but it seemed like you weren't really sure you want to do this, and that seemed more important.

As much as I would love to read your stories, I don't want you to feel pressured to post them if you aren't comfortable with the idea. We support you, but you need to do what you feel is best for you, regardless if everyone agrees with you. As a writer/artist who posts here (once in a great while, now that I'm busy with real life), I understand how nerve wrecking it is to post something that you feel that people may not enjoy like you do. A million questions run through my mind whenever I post anything at all, but at the end of the day I'm not doing it for other people (or fanbase). I'm doing it for myself and grow my skills and to present my point of view to the world. It took me a long time to realize that not everyone is going to love my work and not all my work will be my best, and that's alright.

You are the artist and you have full authority if you want to show them or not, but don't forget that you come first.
