Point of no Return sources now available on Patreon

Permanent Linkby MirceaKitsune on Mon Oct 08, 2018 2:42 pm

Just a PSA to inform everyone that the sources for the Point of no Return series are now available on Patreon. They will only be accessible to the designated 10$ tier for some time, but the post will become public later on so feel free to note down the link if you can't get this tier at the moment. Like all my drawn art, the series is published under the CC-BY-SA license: Feel free to edit and redistribute but please credit me as the author.

I shall also remind that in roughly a week from now, I'm posting a series of preview renders from my latest animation. I hope to finish the project this year, if not it should be done closely after the end of the year. They will be available to the 5$ tier which covers all WIP posts. I shall only mention that feline lovers will likely be happy about this one ...

Status update for October

Permanent Linkby MirceaKitsune on Wed Oct 03, 2018 8:36 am

There are quite a few things I need to catch up on. Last month was both a busy and uncertain month, so I didn't have the time and energy to post another status update.

To start from the beginning: The presentation for my 3 RPG games currently in development has just completed. In case you missed it, grab the 5$ or 10$ tier and let me know what you think of what I've done so far! I'm continuing to program those games alongside my animation projects, and may post new sneak peeks from time to time. It will take a good while until they're ready for a beta release in any case.

Now for some good news: I just installed the video card I received from a very wonderful being, who decided to help me when I explained the issues I was having with the old one. I upgraded from my Gigabyte R7 370 to an XFX R9 390. While unfortunately I still don't have GPU (OpenCL) rendering in Cycles for Blender, the system freezes seem to be gone: My computer no longer appears to lock up when running most 3D engines!...

Status update for August

Permanent Linkby MirceaKitsune on Sun Aug 05, 2018 6:00 am

I once more find myself in a problematic situation, which continues to reoccur every few months now. Due to personal issues, a good friend who's also an important patron can no longer keep supporting me and will have to remove their pledge by the end of this month. This comes after Patreon's pledge processing issues which were induced by changes to their payment processors, causing a lot of people's payment methods to be considered invalid. From the looks of things, I'm going to be left under 300$ by the end of the month, which is not enough to live off and another crisis waiting to happen.

As usual I've thought of changes I can make to my page, how I should better handle the workflow of my projects, etc. However I've already done all that in the past... there isn't anything new I can think of doing differently at this stage! More quantity isn't possible, as both animation and games take a long time to finish and I'm just one person doing it all alone... some days I'm working from the...

How you can help distribute my DTube videos

Permanent Linkby MirceaKitsune on Mon Jul 09, 2018 7:29 am

As some of you probably know from my previous discussion about the platform, DTube uses IPFS for video storage. IPFS is a file system that essentially works like a torrent: You upload files to it using the command "ipfs add" in a console... whenever another IPFS node then accesses that file, it will also cache and seed it to other nodes for a limited amount of time. The more nodes a file is on, the closer those nodes are to your location geographically, and the faster their internet connection is... the greater your overall download speed will be when you're downloading this file through your local gateway.

Despite its beauty, this format of storage comes with one drawback: For a file to remain available in the network and downloadable at decent speeds, it needs a lot of people accessing it on a daily basis in order to reseed it periodically. When this isn't the case, it requires nodes to explicitly pin those files and seed them permanently like a server. If a file runs out of...

⚠ URGENT: Stop internet censorship in Europe! (Article 11 / 13)

Permanent Linkby MirceaKitsune on Wed Jul 04, 2018 6:49 am

I haven't been as active on those subjects recently, both due to how sick I am of them and being very busy. However it's extremely urgent that we spread the word about this one immediately.

For those who don't know, the European Union has been working on an internet censorship scheme unlike anything ever seen before. It dwarfs even SOPA / PIPA / ACTA or the censorship in countries like Communist China, and already it's halfway through the EU debate processes. It consists of two measures part of a new copyright directive, known as Article 11 (Link Tax) and Article 13 (Censorship Machines).

  • Article 11: This makes it obligatory for everyone to pay news sites when posting links to their articles, as long as you're using any snippet of text with a link (even a few words). News sites cannot even waive this obligation: The law would essentially mandate people to take money by force from anyone posting links to their websites!
  • Article 13:...
