Got the time tick-tick-ticking in my head...

So in the ad-hoc process of putting together custom planet, it's remarkably easy to forget your own canon. Especially when you're making up names and dates and history and stuff on the fly. So it's high time I set the record straight about a few fundamental temporal details about the place, for the benefit of myself and any artists and writers who wish to use Aekallia as a setting.

Aekallia orbits its sun, Sola, at a distance of roughly 105 million miles and has a diameter of approximately 7,500 miles. Aekallia is tilted at 20 degrees to its orbital plane and is orbited by two moons - one large moon named Lunatero with an orbital period of 24 days, and one smaller, kinda potato-shaped moon named Lunatic with a highly eccentric polar orbit of 100 days.

The Aekallian minute is equivalent to an Earth minute, and the hour is 64 minutes long. The Aekallian day is 32 hours long, and the solar year 326 days. The year is divided into fourteen months, as established by treaty following the Great Global Standards and Measures War of 2917. The Edouedish names are:

1. Eneri (24 days) (winter/summer solstice: Eneri 1st)
2. Bineri (24 days)
3. Trineri (24 days)
4. Angril (24 days) (spring/fall equinox: Angril 9th)
5. Minus (24 days)
6. Smarch (24 days)
7. Augtember (24 days) (summer/winter solstice: Augtember 18th)
8. Octumber (24 days)
9. Noncember (24 days)
10. Dectorus (24 days)
11. Vonnegus (24 days) (fall/spring equinox: Vonnegus 3rd)
12. Adamus (24 days)
13. Phobicus (24 days)
14. Remainder (14 days)

I also rather uncreatively used the old English/ancient Germanic/ISO 8601 standard when naming weekdays in my first story, and thus am stuck with it now. However, I also mentioned in Size Matters that the week is six days long. Thus, the days of the Aekallian week are Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Sorry, Thursday!

There. I hope this clears some stuff up for anyone who was losing sleep over this. :)

Wow. I'm glad French Snack and others pointed you out. I know this blog came out months ago but I'd still like to say hello from another worldbuilder... although your world is more complex. Aekallia has much more detail than I have prepared for any world in my universe... it would be maddening for me to keep track of these things for more than one planet. And I know what you mean about forgetting canon. Continuity errors look to be unavoidable in a richly detailed world.. unless you are so engrossed that you accidentally sign one of your checks as "18 augtember 2009" (... argh!!!) how can you avoid them ever happening at some point?

Anyway, I just wanted to say... ah feel yoh pain and I bet other worldbuilders might, too! :D

Sincerely,
Jacq
