Let's Talk About Male Preds!

Postby Chameleonette » Wed Nov 20, 2013 5:08 pm

Before we get started, I am aware that there's a topic FOR male preds to talk to other male preds, which is pretty much dead. I'm leaning this more toward anyone who wants to participate in discussion of them. And now, let me quickly walk you through what came to the creation of this topic:

Since I have joined Eka's, I have noticed lots of passive-aggressive behavior and comments toward male preds in general, as well as people who enjoy M/F or M/M vore. I have felt alienated by many people, received some ridiculous PMs on the subject, and quickly realized that tolerance was not universal for different/more widely disliked preferences here. And I have also been told stories of things that have happened here to male preds who were open about their preferences, and discovered that some of them were even harassed and shamed over it.

The real kicker was when more than one person that I have RPed with on this site, said they never post in the forums or talk about their preferences because they are afraid of backlash, afraid of being looked down upon, and afraid of scorn from their own gender and the other, afraid of being labeled as sexist, etc. This being primarily those who favor male predator role with female prey.

NEVER should ANYONE in this fetish be made to feel that they are weird, alienated, or wrong for what they like. Remember that we are a community of people who are already looked down upon by many in the fetish world---there's no need to extend that dislike right into preferences of this fetish itself.

Okay, with that out of the way... on to the wonderful topic!

This thread is to hopefully be able to encourage male predator types to speak out a bit more, or at least give them a place to lurk where they will be appreciated. Anyone who likes or appreciates male preds regardless is welcome to post here and discuss. But this is a positive thread and I ask that if you dislike male preds, please do not use this thread to speak of your dislike for them. Discussion is fine, but if you're just looking for an outlet for your hate, please take it elsewhere.

With that... let's talk about male preds! : D

What do you like about them? Do you have a specific favorite, be it an original character or an existing character? Who do you think would make a good male pred? What type of male preds do you favor?

Male preds are awesome! I'm pretty fond of being, and being eaten by male preds. I love macro/micro stuff! Soft vore! XD Admitteldy not too sure what exactly to say on the subject, but the idea that people are being harassed over this prefrence is pretty infuriating  Those people suck!

I usually keep males out of my drawings so the focus will be mainly on the females preys. But I also realize that I'm counting out a lot of people with other related interests by doing that. It makes me wonder if I should do something about that.

I have also never had people complaining about the fact that I only draw female preys, even though it seems pretty sexist to me. :D

I never get any IMs when I idle on my males, but I assumed that was because the site is a massive sausage fest OOC. I could be wrong, of course.

I think the explanation for the disdain for male preds around here boils down to the fetishistic nature of the site itself; the same wires that crossed to bring us to vore consequently brought many other sexual attitudes with it. Thus, the male is supposed to be penetrative (eaten, in this case) whereas females are to be penetrated (i.e. eat the men). Dual female play isn't frowned upon for the same reason men don't mind watching lesbians, but a male being penetrated is seen as perverse and effeminate, due partly to the emotionally repressive and sex-idolizing aspects of western male culture, and partly due to plain old fashioned stupidity.

Men tend to get the short end of the stick in RP anywhere, not just vore, because traditionally, the vast majority of internet users are men. That's change over the past few years, but I'd wager the men still outnumber the women, and a sizable portion of men prefer to play with or as hermaphroditic characters for various convoluted, ill-conceived reasons that all amount to denial about sexual curiosity (even and especially the ones who say it's so "there's two girls instead of one"). Despite this, there is an overabundance of straight male characters, leading to a lot of competition for the relatively small group of straight females. For this reason, men are typically undervalued in RP.

Oddly, I don't see myself playing many male preds, or fantasizing about them, with the obvious exception of cock vore, which demands male or at least partly male participants. The drive behind CV, in my case at least, is a sudden boost in virility (digesting prey into cum) and the appealing and rather callous nature of fatal, digestive vore (I'm of the opinion that if it's not fatal and permanent in the scope of the given RP (as opposed to e.g. perma-play), it's not vore, it's endosoma, but leave that behind, leave that behind). For female predators, the motivation is different, and one I cannot entirely explain. Call it a combination of vanilla femdom with my strange and frightening attraction to death. I think the dehumanizing aspect is a major part of it, but that doesn't explain why I prefer females; perhaps it is the stereotypically "male" instinct to consume or devour sexual partners (love 'em and leave 'em, you know the drill) found in a woman and exaggerated in the extreme to involve literal consumption.

Blurring the typical gender roles accounts for many otherwise banal sexual fetishes or tendencies; non-penetrative men in a lot of gay fiction are portrayed with stereotypically feminine qualities, likely a compensation for the rather atavistic idea that being penetrated is somehow shameful or effeminate. Similarly, in the "chicks with dicks" genres (umbrella for transsexuals, shemales, futanari, hermaphrodites, and anything else with a feminine body but male genitalia), you encounter women who very frequently rape their partners and are, at the very least, aggressive and dominant in a way associated with men.

The tl;dr of it is non-heteronormative -phobia, fear and thus hatred of the other, and a lack of interest.

That they are! Micro/macro soft!vore is great with them, I agree. (I like same-size, too, so I'm not particularly picky on the front.)

And any and all support is more than welcome here. I, too, was surprised to hear how many people got crap for it or were too afraid to even come forward about it aside from PMs.

:D!

I'm kind of a stick in the mud because generally the only predator I really enjoy is my own, although if I do like a predator it has to be male. ; H;

But it's so lovely to see a topic for this, sometimes I'll compliment people on their profile picture and all I'll get back is a "uh.... thanks?" or something like "I dont like RPing with males" even though all I was doing was trying to say something nice. :I

In the chat in particular, there's a huge difference in the way some female characters are treated vs. the way some male characters are treated. People I've never met before seem to not like me very much and tend to be sarcastic and/or hostile towards me, but are -completely- different when speaking with my friend's female characters.

Talking about boobs or how totally hot women are is a pretty common occurrence in the chat as well, but on the rare occasion the topic becomes more male-oriented, people openly show their disgust. It's pretty ridiculous. :D

EDIT: I just recalled a time where a friend and I happened to be talking about our love for male predators. We ended up getting asked by a few people how we could not like women, as if the notion of having a different sexual orientation was something so outlandish that they didnt even consider the possibility of that being a thing. :I

grill93 wrote:I have also never had people complaining about the fact that I only draw female preys, even though it seems pretty sexist to me. :D

If you only draw female prey because you find it more attractive, that's not sexist at all, it's just a matter of preference. ' ^ '

Male preds gross me out personally, but I had no idea that there was pred-shaming going on :/
We're a community to stop those sorts of things, or to at least get a break from them. The idea that anyone on this site would look down on anyone else for their preferences is really disappointing. :(

Yes, the problem is not with drawing or writing what you like. In fact, that's of the utmost importance. The problem is when people chastise others for drawing or writing what they like. That is inexcusable.

But back on topic, I like my male preds tall, svelte but toned, and with a bit of stubble. And glasses are a plus. I also very much enjoy it when he romances his prey before devouring her, either catching her off guard, or even ending up with her wanting to be eaten. A bit of an old trope, but I consider it a classic.

For me, male preds are the only time that I can be comfortable with. I was put off from female preds a looong time ago, but that doesn't mean i won't respect the good art of them~

I don't personally like female predators. I just don't get anything out of interacting with a female predator.

I enjoy preds of all genders and sexes equally, but usually lean towards males because I don't like the way many female / intersex characters are presented. An issue I've personally faced on a few occasions is people trying to get me to a female character when they found out I'm a girl, even after I explicitly tell them no they persue the issue to the point where I may have to block them. If you're not into male preds, whatever, but don't harass those who are! Especially if they're a girl in real life!

Personally, I have slight preference to males than females. I will admit to being a man myself and I enjoy RPing as a male pred/prey, but I'm fine with females (on the condition they're not overly-sexualised, I want food/a nice tummy, not a porn model.)

My rant may make it seem like gay orientation, but I am non-sexual (asexual), the only reason I prefer males more is because it's easier to desexualise, with women, they have boobs, and that kinda gets in the way for me. Since I only look at the front half (ferals ftw) the genders seem to merge together, which is why I only have slight preference to males (i.e. on the rarer occasion I indulge in an anthro (never human)).

As for the whole demonization of male preds, wtf? Seriously, is there some sort of higher community of female pred elitists that are some kind of fascist? FFS, preference for one person means nothing for everyone else, but to hate someone for liking male preds it like hating someone who likes the X-Box one, if you don't like their opinion, then deal with it.

I take this wise mans point of view with things I don't like.

Don't worry, there's absolutely nothing sexist about having preferences!

Happy to oblige. : ) I felt this was definitely needed. And I hope seeing the support will help those who feel unsure/alienated in this community to feel a little better about themselves and their preferences.

I haven't been in the chat much, but the few times I have, I've also noticed the heavy, heavy lean toward female everything---both in characters and in the general chatting. After my first few times in there, I ended up just not returning any longer because not only was it difficult to find people to RP with when you're into male preds, but I also kept getting PMs from people who didn't bother to ask my preferences or even look at my character bio and AUTOMATICALLY assumed I was a female pred. And I'm sad to hear that you've experienced hostility on those grounds, too. It's pretty sad how things that are not widely as liked are treated here. And worse, that most people find it to be acceptable behavior.

It really does bother me to hear how many people have experienced things like this. Male preds are definitely something to be celebrated and embrace, and most importantly, treated as equal in terms of respect. And I hope that through this topic, they will be.

Despite what some people would tell you, no, there is no female pred conspiracy, although there are always going to be some people who just don't like people different from themselves. (That's not limited to vore preferences though - I was shocked to find out at one point that on a site with so much depiction of gay people as well as a general acceptance of gays in general, some people openly flaunt their homophobia.)

The stigma with male preds extends to how artists are treated as well. Comments like "This would be better if the pred was female" seem innocent enough, but artists that draw males get this so often that over time it starts to take its toll. The comment itself is also entirely useless, saying nothing more than "I would like your art if you drew my interests instead of your own". So to anyone reading, please keep those sorts of comments to yourself because the artist who slaved over a picture for 6+ hours really does not want their art to be disregarded like that just because the predator is male. :I

There are a few wonderful artists who have left the site entirely because people couldn't keep those opinions to themselves: Kroma_Fera and Jidane to name just two. :C

(...In case you live under an Eka Portal rock)
I like, love, desire, need -- need -- heart, ♥ male predators.

I suspect my love of them dovetails with the alpha-male archetype. I like 'em lean, mean, and hungry.

Most of the preds I draw or write about are male, even though I'm actually female pred myself. I blame my observer's perspective, as well as autoandrophilia, which I'm into every now and then.

While I've rarely got any bad treatment personally (the only things I can think of right now is the occasional "do you draw female preds too?" but which I view as rather harmless, and where I just answer "well, it may happen every now and then, depends on my mood, hard to predict"), I *have* seen some really dumb comments here and there such as "male preds suck" or general homophobia stuff. I have also seen guys trying to convince other artists to draw females instead of males "you know, if you do female preds instead, you'll get so much more attention". That was... infuriating.

Anyhow -
How are my male preds? Strong, powerful, capable. Muscled. Sharp facial features. Rugged. ;)
Assertive, confident with themselves. And yeah, cruel or even sadistic.

My rule of thumb has always been that on Eka's, female predators are far more popular, particularly F/M, whereas on FurAffinity, male predators are slightly more popular, with M/M far outweighing M/F. Not exactly sure why that is.

I can understand why people might be put off or squicked by M/F in a way that they're not for other gender combinations. That's fine, but actually trying to push that onto other people is pretty bad.

Personally I enjoy all gender combinations, but since it's by far the rarest, it's good to see M/F getting a bit of love!

And, to skate across another issue --

You are not alone, Chammy. I can't even begin to tell you about the backlash I've gotten over the years. I have been called names that run the entire gamut. From misogynist to sexist, to.... lol -- and this one is my favorite -- that I'm Eka Portal's Rush Limbaugh in terms of how I treat female characters. LOL! I must admit, that one made my entire year.
