Re: Herons/pelicans swallowing live prey
Sorry to hijack this thread with gulls again, I found this cool slow-motion footage with a nice, visible throat bulge and some convulsive gulping

Not a hijack at all - that's a great find! I captured the clip as a .flv file but can't do anything about the watermark, sadly.

Okay, that's good. I'll share this one too, as it's interesting. The bird is just eating pizza (unfortunately), but there's drool and you can see the tongue and the throat moving/bulging with the swallowing really well. There's also faint sound if you turn it up loud enough. I wish there were more videos of birds eating up close like this.

A Goliath heron swallows a live baby crocodile! It's a very prickly and snappy meal, yikes!

Wow, that didn't look like a cooperative meal. You can tell the bird is intelligent as he/she patiently waits for the prey's struggles to weaken before gulping it down.

These two are rather impressive. Pelicans swallowing absolutely massive fish that are practically their own size.

Ah, yes, there are some bird classics in there.

Thanks Purrloin, hadn't seen the pelican ones before.
Here's a short one of a gull bolting down some kind of bird.

Here's a great video of a snowy egret making a meal out of a live fish, including nice slow mo of the swallow and wriggling throat.

No. Just no. Among everything else wrong with this comment you can't be adapted to consume a specific gender.

Purrloin is right! If you want to explore that sort of disgusting fantasy, you should go to some fetish web forum or something.

Let's not get into kinkshaming, please. I don't care for that fantasy either (I'm exclusively a feral guy, hence why this is one of my favorite threads), but that doesn't mean we should give someone else shit over it. Everyone on here is messed up, so it's a little like the pot calling the kettle black.
Anyways, nice videos everyone. It's been a while since I've been on this thread. I especially like the NYC seagull and the snowy egret ones. I haven't seen those before.

I found these videos of a skua swallowing a chicks whole that I haven't seen before. It's in slight slow-mo so kind of cool.

I like that footage of the gull eating the catfish, it's included on these online compilations.

Re: Herons/pelicans swallowing live prey
Here's a long video of a nice persistent feeding, narrated by the cameraman (who is shocked that the GBH can manage a fish of that size). The fish went down alive @ 6:02 but there is no struggle after the swallow, sadly.
And here's a great capture of a heron helping himself to a nice fat goldfish from an outdoor pond. I like how the goldfish tries to resist being eaten by hooking his tail hard against the bird's open mouth - the heron barely notices, and gently swallows him.
