Not "enjoying" commissions of your OC

Postby PyrZero72 » Thu May 01, 2025 6:20 am

I love commissioning art of my original character, but I can never get turned on by it for some reason. I have tried but it just won't happen no matter what.

This is going to sound incredibly weird and pathetic, but I think in a way it's because I kind of see her as my daughter... Okay, that's probably not the best way to word it, more like: "something of my own creation that is so intrinsically tied to me that I can't mentally separate myself from it" that is a more accurate way to describe it.

Does anyone else have this problem, where they love seeing art of their OC but can't get turned on by it?

Honestly no. It probably helps that I RP as my OCs and insert into them to some degree (like you'd insert in your D&D character) rather than seeing them as my offspring. This said, there's nothing wrong if you want to commission vore art of your characters even if it doesn't turn you on, provided it still makes you happy.

Absolutely--I've got lots of reasons to like my characters besides vore. And reasons to like them in vore that aren't about getting turned on.

That's totally fair. I've got ocs and even fav characters from other media where I relate to them enough or feel more parental towards them, that seeing kink stuff of them just doesn't do anything for me or makes me feel uncomfortable. It's not as common with my ocs, since I tend to have a 'main world' and a 'vore au' for them so I don't feel as 'bad' subjecting them to kink stuff, but I think it's completely reasonable to have those sorts of feelings about your ocs.

It's happened to me sometimes. I don't really see my OC's as my "children", so for me I think it's more a case of the vision of the vore scenario in my mind didn't quite match what came out. Or by the time the commission was completed, my enthusiasm for the scenario had dried up.

I get that. One moment you're so down bad for a pred you're willing to throw money at any artist to get a commission, but by the time the art is done the craving's already passed and even if the piece is jaw-droppingly awesome you're not as turned on by it as when you first pictured it in your mind. The artistic version of "that sounded better in my head."

Yeah, my early D&D characters were way too much like me for me to want to see them in sexual situations. I changed the way I make characters at one point, now instead of making them like offshoots of myself they're are amalgamations or dedications to things I enjoy. I have a character who represents my love of the Tsundere archetype in anime and manga, I have a few characters that are based off of other characters that I really loved, and I have other characters that are just based on certain tropes I particularly enjoy in storytelling.

as an artist, I generally don’t want people getting turned on by my art, so I would assume maybe the artist is also trying to avoid that?
sfw vore only. please don’t use my stories or art for nsfw purposes

I've definitely felt a hype-death as a commission enters the end stretch. We've been working on it for week, so novelty has worn off. Luckily, once its finished, the well crafted piece is worth it. :-D

For me it's about the rush of the idea, having something you can look back on later whenever you are going over your old scenarios, and the biggest thing is seeing other people get off to the collaboration. Generally I just like seeing what people do with my characters. Comms are like a community-building, experimental, and networking thing for me so they are always worth it even if the sexual satisfaction wears off.

As an artist I tend to get the most off to a scenario during the sketching phase, after that sexual satisfaction fades but I just finish a quality piece out of passion and love for the craft.

For sure, not every vore scenario has to be sexual. I've played with vore as a horror concept, played it in a romantic way, and also integrated vore into some of my characters and settings as a piece of worldbuilding or just a character being a badass. Most of my vore falls under the category of "not strictly fap material but definitely can be viewed as sexy". Of course it's a kink but there's often other interesting things happening that keeps it interesting even when you're done beating off to it.

Vore can invoke a lot of feelings in me, not only sexual, so it's still worth getting the art and viewing it even when the sexual hype dies down.

There's also the upside that whenever the craving comes back, you'll have a finished piece to go back to.

My favourite pieces ever, I've revisited a good dozen times, sometimes across years.

Oh for sure. I often find myself looking back at my old art and re-reading my old stories.

That's not weird or pathetic, that's rather cute.

Anyways I have a similar sentiment towards characters from franchises I actually like, where I don't really like seeing vore stuff with them. For example, Xenoblade is one of my favourite franchises, but I don't ever want to vore stuff with any of its characters.
Happy 20th birthday eka's portal !
