So, Adriaan finds something quite spiffing for his money. Though the old lady manning the changing room looks simply smitten with how he looks as he steps away wearing it. Shes clearly colour-blind as she compliments Adriaan on his choices. Or maybe she's a big-time scam artist who couldn't sell those particular articles. Still, she doesn't charge him all that much.

Adriaan smiles as he thanks the woman, then rushes back to the group. "So, we make a decision?" he asks. "I still say we go for the cliffs first, settle the trade thing right after." As he speaks, he moves his arms and turns around to let everyone take a look at the monstrosities he's wearing.

"I don't know about the issue with the trade in and out of the city, but we do at least seem to be in majority agreement about scoping out the cliffs first! ... Ermh, hmm... I take it you had a lot of fun shopping Adriaan?", Nilia would reply, absentmindedly at first as she got up to leave the tavern and get to work, only to spot the catfolk's new attire and actually cock a bit of a musing a smile at that. Which was rare for her, to say the least.

Irice will be in agreement to head to the cliffs, though she still wants to figure out who to talk to in order to open up an armory in the city so that she can make money on the side of...doing these little side jobs. The side jobs for her are mainly so she can procure good materials to smelt so she can sell them for an increased rate, at least, in her mind.
Spoiler: show
I think we're all ready for Jonat to take us to the cliffs and whatever checks need to be made en route. If we aren't, then I'd appreciate the rolls that Irice needs to make in order to get her armory started.

(( Work has been working me pretty hard. Sorry for the delays.

Everyone roll me either insight or perception; one for reacting to surroundings, the other for hearing.

I wanted to try something different for this post. Let me know what you think ))

The party decides on an approximate route of action; but for now decide to head to the cliffs in order to check out what was going on. Irice, having been there not too long ago would lead the party in that general direction of the tree she used - but not exactly directly. As they near the guarded gates, however..

(Rolled a nat 20: )
Spoiler: show
Either you noticed everyone reacting to something and preparing to rush to the scene or you heard the scream from the cliffs yourself, instantly you rush ahead - even before the guards can work out between them what to do and wind up trailing behind you with their shields and spears. If you had to stop and tell anyone what to do; then you'd be about as quick as the others behind you (rolled 15+, but advances the whole group to 15+). If not, then ahead you can see a figure on the cliff who looks as though they're not moving despite standing in a lurched position as if ready to run. A vine has curled around their ankle. It's a child - the one who Brelia shooed away. As you slide to a halt nearby, you're privvy to seeing a large, bulb-shaped plant creature rise up the cliffs by using the tree in its tentacle-vine like arms. All at once it scoops up the boy and deposits it in its bulb; which is transparent. You have enough time to act, but it's too far to strike with a sword immediately...(can surprise round it, then initiative. 20-30ft from it)

(rolled (with mods) 15+)
Spoiler: show
You hear the scream or notice the guards dashing from the gates you were about to pass and give chase. Hesitation or instructions to the others would push you back with the others (5-14, but advances the whole group to 15+), otherwise you run ahead - lead by the guards and perhaps someone else. You and the guards spot in the distance a large, bulb like creature rise up from the cliff, using the tree to heft its body from over the edge and scoop up the child - the one Brelia had shooed away into its transparent bulb. You're a short run from it, alongside the guards (init; 30ft away)

(rolled (with mods) 5-14)
Spoiler: show
Though your reaction times were sluggish or you processed the sound of the scream late (perhaps you were in a shop and struggled to get to the street or informed someone else of something going on (in which case add 10ft and bring anyone else up to 5-14)), you eventually follow the others ahead of you to the source, if you can see anyone. Still, you arrive to see in the distance a bulb-like creature with big tentacle-vines, one holding the tree on the cliffside. Inside the bulb is the sillouette of a person! (init; 40ft away)

(rolled (with mods) less than 5)
Spoiler: show
Absolutely clueless one way or another, you take your time to arrive at the designated spot with the rest of your allies. Though they seem to have vanished? How odd. You bring it up a pace, since you're a little concerned at that before finding a crowd of people blocking the way outside of the gates. You push through and spot your party and two guards facing off against a large, bulb-like plant creature with long tentacle arms! (start 60ft away, miss the first round of init. Still roll init)

Rolled Sense Motive(insight) 1d20+10 = 23 http://orokos.com/roll/678666

Hearing the scream coming from the area of the cliffs, Brelia immediately breaks into a run in order to keep up with the guards who are also reacting to the sounds of terror from an as of yet unknown source. By the time she reaches the cliffs, the feline is right beside the guards, 30 feet away from the creature, and she watches in horror as it scoops up the very child she had warned away from the cliffs into its bulb. "I thought I told him not to go out around here!" she complains in frustration as she ceases her run and raises her shield, preparing to fight off this apparently carnivorous plant beast.

The party'd gotten a move on after Kay fed her slightly bulging frame with whatever was put in front of her, tail twitching with interest as various plans are discussed or discarded. She kept her own peace, but the idea of going groveling to some hack in fancy clothes and a wig for a job to do what she could do with her own two hands and her teeth struck her as all but intolerable. The tenuous conclusion the group had reached, to strike out on their own to at least make a name for themselves, fit Kay's mind much more smoothly than that. And so, after she'd gotten out of the inn with her worldly possessions on her back, the faun was feeling pretty content with the state of the world. She wasn't hungry, she'd gotten laid last night, and nothing was right that minute trying to kill her and she had a bit of money. What else could she ask for?

She's running on her own two hooves before her mind consciously processes that something is wrong, let alone before she has time to make some kind of reasoned decision about whether or not she should wait and bring everyone up to speed with her. She's already got her sword out, though, alarmed and ready for trouble when she catches sight of the plant. That Brelia's right by her side is a welcome boon- meant she wasn't going to be the sole target for this thing- but her words catch the faun a little short. "Wait, you KNOW that kid?!" Kay blurts. "Well, hell, now we gotta go cut him out. HEY! ANYONE WANT SALAD!?" She booms out, using her performer's voice.

(I like it!)

"Of course!" Adriaan tells the serpent woman, bowing with a doff of his cap. "It's always satisfying to be able to indulge my good taste!" He's kidding, but he shows off a little for the others before he continues on outside of the shop. His thoughts are a little scattered as he leaves, not really thinking about anything. When he sees Kay, he can't help but stand up a little straighter as he remembers the night before, the blush having gone away over the morning. As he walks, he starts whistling to himself, then humming for the rest of the way.

Finally, e gets He's not directly looking at the plant, but it quickly catches his attention. "I'd love some," he tells his former bedmate. "I didn't get a chance for live prey yesterday." The memory of the jerk at the arena taints his thoughts for a moment, but he quickly draws his sling. "STAND CLEAR!" he shouts as he loads his sling.

Perhaps a bit surprisingly for her rather physical nature, Nilia could giggle as any other woman, and did so for a tiny moment in reply to Adriaan's jest. Yet, for being a bit of a brute at times, Nilia did try to stay out of the way of people who didn't deserve to be messed with, and so moving through the crowded streets, making sure her long, thick tail wasn't tripped over, bumped against or stepped on, the lamia was taking her sweet time. So much so she had apparently lagged behind her party a fair distance without even noticing!

After finishing his breakfast Jon walked out in a leisurely pace, keeping Nilia company through the crowded streets.
He was glad they had finally decided upon a course of action.
"What the..." he exclaimed as he what appeared to be a big plant were antagonizing the rest of the group.
"Well then, good thing I brought my gladius."

Irice might have been leading the group due to having traversed this path and her trail being obvious with all the gear she'd been lugging around back from her hidey-hole making it fairly obvious where she'd been. Even so, she's a bit slower to react to the sounds of screaming, though her senses pick up just as much as the loud and somewhat obnoxious (though naturally, Irice was nice enough not to go out of her way to call the faun that) Kay's, and just notices the child disappearing into the transparent bulb. One thought of hers is, "How can I free the child without injuring her with my hammer?" Which she mutters to herself, then the next thought, "How can I keep from being next?" In a louder tone she chides Adriaan, telling him that if he dared to eat the bulb-creature with the child still inside, she'd smite the kitty herself. She raises her tower shield before her, thinking if the creature wanted to attack her, it would have to get past her shield, and she begins to ready her warhammer, invoking the name of the dwarf god, Torag, for strength.

Adriaan: 16: 30ft, Brelia: 16: 30ft, Creature (3): 13, Kay: 10: 30ft, Jon: 8: 30ft, Nilia: 7: 40ft, Irice: 2: 30ft.

The plant-like creature looms over the party - a large, nay, huge creature. The boy within pounds on the translucent prison upon gaining some movement back in his arm while billowing out the flesh-like prison with the weight of his balance from the jostling creature below. One of its tendrils wraps around a dying tree, while it's free tendril holds over infront of it - ready to lash out.

Brelia keeps her eyes focused on the plant creature in front of her as she thinks about her options here. If they were going to save the kid, then they couldn't just cut down the dying tree and make the plant fall to its death, though it would be suitable as a last resort. Brute force seems to be the only way that the feline oracle can think of. "Yeah, I know him," Brelia says back to Kay, sounding rather frustrated at the moment, before lowering her voice so that only she (and maybe adjacent party members) can hear her. "Sheesh, if I knew he was going to get himself eaten the moment I let him out of my sight I would have done it myself..."

With her ranting officially over, Brelia raises her shield into the air while working the motions of spellcasting with her free hand. "Let's take care of this quick before it decides to try and escape," she declares, then casts Bless. (All allies within 50 feet get +1 morale bonus to attack rolls and saves vs fear. Includes guards and the kid that got nommed).

Kay gives Brelia a sidelong look, but shrugs. Well, that was a fine notion, for as little as she was in a position to judge. She saw the kid- apparently the dumb kid- inside the plant, and something in the faun rebelled at just staying back and decorously starting to sing. Not this time, not facing down a single plant-y opponent with plenty of backup. With a wordless whoop, Kay unlimbers her scimitar and charges into battle with her head lowered, looking to get inside the thing's guard before it can start whacking people. Way Kay figures it, it's easier to cut someone out when you're in close and you've got a good stout sword.

Adriaan groans for a moment as he loads his sling. "Wasn't my plan," he replies to the oread. Then he starts twirling his weapon. After a quick pause to aim, he lets a bullet fly. It's just a tracking shot, but a hit would still be wonderful. He decides to stay back: not only was he still a little antsy about charging into battle after yesterday, but his aim was a little better than his right hook.

"We'll save that little girl...she should have listened to you though. Churning up will be a good lesson for her, just a little bit anyways, to listen to what she's told. I bet she'll not wander off anywhere anymore without an escort." Irice says confidently, resting her shield which is taller than her against her body as she begins to chant in Terran, her words rumbling like stone grinding against stone as her holy symbol on her shield begins to glow with divine light, and as the last symbol rolls off her tongue like a boulder rolling downhill, her armor suddenly becoming thick with three inch protrusions as spikes appear all over. On concluding her spell, she looks at the spikes on her armor, before nodding with a smile and moves slowly with her shield leading the way towards the plant monster, only able to cover two thirds of the distance between the plant creature and herself.

Casted spked armor on my chainmail to give me another weapon to use while fighting it.
AC is 21 with tower shield, CMD is 14, CMD grapple is 16.

Slithering up in the rear of the encounter, with her shield in her left hand but no weapon in her right, Nilia didn't hear much of the chatter within her group due to the distance between them and her together with all the other people shouting and hollering, or at least she didn't recognize it past the rush of adrenaline that came with the start of a battle. Still, knowledge of your foe is paramount to victory and communication essential in it's collection and distribution, so Nilia hurried up to the side of her party while drawing a javelin from her back, calling out, "Did anyone see how it fights?! Is it paralytic like the thorny plants?!" before throwing her javelin at the upper portion of it's bulb with a puff, as to not run the risk of piercing both the plant and the person within.

Jon pulls his sword and moves forward, readying himself to strike at the lashing tendril if it comes close to him.
"Let's get it from several sides at once. It can't hit us all at the same time. Oh and don't get hit."

Move 30 feet closer, pulls out sword.

(work is giving out a lot of overtime; so weekends are my recharge days and posting days. Sorry if it slows down up to Xmas.)

( Adriaan: 16: 30ft, Brelia: 16: 30ft, Creature (3) (6): 13, Kay: 10: 30ft, Jon: 8: 30ft, Nilia: 7: 40ft, Irice: 2: 30ft. )

Certainly eating the whole thing and digesting it faster than it could digest the kid is an option, if they knew how active and good at eating it was. Right now the kid seemed fine and active; so it wasn't immediately lethal at least. The guards set to controlling the crowd who are clearly too close to a big monster; some seem intent on charging it with whatever equipment they have on hand, while others are shocked frozen. The guards have their hands full ensuring no other victims.

Adriaan's sling shot impacts the edge of the bulb; causing it to reverberate. Looks like he's gashed at the membrane; but its tougher than it looks. Next, Brelia casts her magic and the entire area is enshrined in a gentle whiteness from below; orbs of energy slowly bleeding off the ground sigil and making the nearby area more 'alive' despite it just being rock and mud. (Creature delays) Kay meanwhile charges at the creature on the edge of the cliff and gets between its root-like legs, thick things that look like fat legs. She finds it's surprisingly tall when she's right up next to it, unable to reach the softer bulb above it's waist and her sword finds purchase in the beast; which bleeds a brighter green on the shallow cut. It reacts swiftly, attempting to swing its long appendage down and around Kay...

With its other tentacle, it reached with the tip to the top of the bulb and took some energy; visible on the glowing tip and 'tossed' it towards the party. Suddenly plants began to explode up from under their feet. (Entangle on everyone but Kay and Plant; Reflex saves vs 14. If you're entangled and this changes your action, that's fine. Just post your new action with a small ooc message to say it replaces it. And feel free to post your second action as a seperate paragraph)

( New init: Adriaan: 16: 30ft, Brelia: 16: 30ft, Kay: 10: 30ft, Creature (3) (11): 13, Jon: 8: 30ft, Nilia: 7: 40ft, Irice: 2: 30ft. )

Jon next (presuming he passes his reflex) moves closer to attack and would hit its leg not unlike Kay; who was currently being molested by a tentacle. Nilia moves (if she passes her reflex) next throws her spear, but it goes wide and over the cliff. Welp. One less spear. Finally, Irice also moves up with her new armour's design (assuming she passed the reflex save)

(forgot about the whole 'center on target'. So it's a 40ft diameter, presume it's 20ft away from the beast. So if you're 30ft from the beast, you could backtrack 10ft to escape or go through the 30ft.. If that makes sense.)

Though Kay didn't *know* there was going to be some magical shenanigans going on, her general personality tended towards the 'get as close to something that needs killing, and then kill it' school of combat anyway. Getting in among the root system of the giant plant, the horned faun calls out, "DON'T WORRY, KID, WE'LL CUT YOU OUT OF THERE," before dealing a wicked shallow gash to one of the thick, green tendrils. This close, it's a confusing environment, with roots, the looming bulk of the bulb overhead, and the strange smell most giant plants tended to give off this close; carnivorous plants usually either smelled Bad or Good, depending on how they hunted. This close in, she can hardly fail to *hit* something- the problem is, rather, being able to get enough leverage to put the force behind her blows that she needs to to actually wound the wretched thing. From outside as the plants start to rise from the ground, Kay appears to be a faun-shaped blur, doing a lot but accomplishing little. She even headbutts the nearest root, trying to get her horns in on the action, but she can't quite maneuver the pointy bit on. When one tendril tries to wrap around her to send her to where the kid was, though, she dodges to one side with a goat-like little leap and bleat of alarm. "Naughty! Not on a first date," she yells upwards.

Full attacking.
Sword attack: 1d20+4 9
Gore attack: 1d20-1 11
Both miss. But hey, no longer charging, so better defenses:
