Vore of the Dragon Queen (D&D5E Closed RP)

Postby Velka » Tue Jan 10, 2017 8:54 pm

Each of you is summoned before the High Wyrmspeaker, Severin. His dark scowl unmoved by your presence, his arms folded in his crimson robes. He clears his throat to speak. "Today is a monumental one for each of you: a time to serve our beloved Queen. As we speak, the Dragon Queen, Tiamat, our mother and strength, spreads her influence over the world. We've seen its results across the realm, and you've felt it: an unending hunger, only satisfied by devouring other humanoids. Your mission is twofold: to spread this glorious new hunger across the Sword's Coast, and to assist in our gathering of an offering to thank Her Majesty for this new gift. Not all of the Cult agrees this hunger is the will of Tiamat, and in disagreement, a Wyrmspeaker has defected along with a number of other cultists. Your goal is find and retrieve the offering stolen from us, and persuade the Wyrmspeaker to rejoin us. If she refuses, then you are to devour her, and anyone who stands in your way, for this is the will of the Dragon Queen.

What say you, chosen of Tiamat?
Surely there's a solution that ends with me in your stomach...

Lexikandras is standing before the High Wyrmspeaker, bowing her upper torso and her forelegs bent in knee towards her superior. Though one day she dreamed of taking such a high seat in the faith, such a goal was, for now, very far off. She listens with her head towards the ground in reverence, likely overly so. Her upper body is clothed in white cloths, draped over her more than generous bust, and they hang freely in front of her, still protecting her decency. Her bottom half is an imposing draconic physique that rivals the size of a horse, but is rather bulky, while not being impairing. A holy symbol of tiamat hangs lightly on her waist, easily hidden under her draping clothes. She has no clothing on her rear half, though her tail does a decent job at covering her modesty. Her quarterstaff is strapped to her back, along with a pair of saddlebags filled with supplies. She had gotten ready for the adventure already, though she had not heard the goal.

The idea of heretics irked the dracotaur, though it did make her realize that she needed to keep mind on her faith. She would be happy to reunify what few worship the dragon goddess who shall be soon to return.

Nezasit arrives garbed for ceremony, as befits a meeting with such a lofty and likely to be a polymorphed dragon member of the clergy. As she kneels in supplication her black scales gleam with immaculate cleaning and care taken properly present herself as one with the form of a dragon. Her form is imposing when upright, reaching nearly seven feet tall and well built. The wyrmspeaker's mention of hunger has Nez place a hand on her belly. She's not only felt that hunger, she has embraced and indulged it. Lesser followers wishing to become closer to the form of a dragon by adding to hers. It has given her quite the generous proportions. In addition it has garnered enough attention from Tiamat herself to earn Nez boons so that she may bring more closer to dragons as part of herself. Or so she likes to think.

"Tiamat's will be done. I will see this heretic and any who follow her," Nez licks her lips. "brought to justice. I can already feel my stomachs panging for them."

Jayazi bows deeply and reverently to the High Wyrmspeaker. She is wearing her best robes, kept fresh and clean by only being worn on important occasions. Despite her discomfort in such a formal setting she swells with pride at being entrusted with such an important mission by the High Wyrmspeaker himself. His mention of the Hunger brings a smile to her face, she had indulged in a few enemies already and looked forward to the chance to do it again.

"I won't let you down sir!"

Rissle was deep in her knightly kneel, her left elbow propped up on her left thigh as she bowed her head as well, not as much in reverence to the High Wyrmspeaker as a religious figure, but in respect of his authority and skillful rule. Though she was freshly washed, her hair braided and in her newest and finest clothes, she was still dressed for travel, scouting and fighting, not for pageantry. But atleast she wasn't wearing her armor! As she pondered the details of the mission laid before them, Rissle would just nod and utter a soft, "Mhm", in reply, slowly drawing a little smile. She knew for a fact that travelling about offered excellent opportunities to have her fill on big, juicy and wriggling meals, evident in the way her clothes were filled out by supple flesh in all the right places, after many a trip into the lands surronding the cult's lair, both for scouting, scavenging and foraging. And just getting to see the world and the opportunities it held was a fine thing as well, though, the half-dragonborn hadn't quite pieced together how they would spread this hunger across the land, and not just gobble people up. Or maybe, that was what he meant? Probably! It sounded much more appealing to Rissle than starting and helping voracious resurgences.

Malark himself currently traveling to the next town, he himself is both a bard and a charlatan. Traveling from inn to inn playing his music, swindling the wealthy out of their coin, and enjoying the finer things in life with ill-gotten gains. He has on more then one occasion impersonated a holy man, no order or church was exempt from this...save for one. He had in time accuired a holy symbol of Tiamat the Dragon Queen, but he never once put it to use in a scam. He wasn't sure why but to him it wasn't just some symbol, Maybe he just decided that if he was ever going to follow a deity she would be the one. It wasn't on his mind now but very soon he would be much, much more involved with the Dragon Queen and her followers.

Severin nods slightly in approval of your acceptance.
"The last known location of the heretics was at a town called Greenest, in the southern plains. Word has reached the larger cities that a band of mercenaries and robed figures sacked the town, before retreating."
You begin to see other members of the cult entering the room, armed and robed.
"With the town still recovering, the Cult of the Dragon sees this as a twofold victory: The treasures may have already been taken, but the people can still be an offering in themselves, and they might know where the separatists are going. You are to be given a small force to attack the town. Begin by capturing anyone you don't devour yourselves. Then, destroy the food production of the town; hunger will make Tiamat's gift grow to the townsfolk who survive this attack.Find where the heretics have fled and pursue them. You will not be in contact with the rest of the force, nor with myself, once you begin your pursuit, so I am giving you ultimate authority at that point to kill and eat as you see fit."
With your mission clear, Severin takes a moment, perhaps to calm himself, or to reflect, before roaring out;
"For Tiamat! Our Mother and Strength!" The room rises into uproar as the cultists around you join in.

Before long, you are on the road headed towards Greenest, just two week's travel from where your initiation began. From the hill, you can see a set of cottages in the middle, clustered together. Nearer the edge of the town is an upright watermill and a quaint church. The centerpiece of the town is a castle with a fortified wall, no doubt home to the leadership of this place.

Upon hearing that they would be in command of a small force, Rissle's up to now quiet and concentrated demeanor broke as she drew a pleased little smirk, quite happy about being made into a commander, even if the authority was split four ways. She joined in on the oath and laid her hand over her heart as Severin sounded their battlecry.

Two weeks later, Rissle was crouching down to relax as she gazed over their little target, kind of expecting that the recovering town was on high alert, and was assuming that most of the guards would either be on patrol, on the castle walls or inside them. Still, she tried to count as many as she could see nonetheless.

Turning to her fellow chosen, the half-dragonborn tilted her head up to them and asked, "So, what's the plan? Think they would tell us what we need if just the four of us went in and checked out a tavern or something? Or maybe we should try taking prisoner as many civilians as possible? We could try to introduce ourselves as travelling adventurers looking for work, and voice our interest in hunting down the mercenaries responsible for their sacking, only to have the rest of our force attack during the night, hopefully forcing the villagers to flee into the castle, and letting us follow the masses inside. Then we would just need to insist on joining in on the defence, only to sabotage the gate and fight the defenders from within. I don't really want to sit around plucking guardsmen from the walls in a drawn out siege, you know!"

Rolls:

Perception check to look for guards: 1d20+4 = 18+4 = 22, if it's far enough away to pose a disadvantage, 1d20+4 = 10+4 =14

Having arrived at Greenrest at roughly the same time as the cultist Malark makes his way into town and towards the inn. Planning to play his music and pull a scam or two, he doesn't want much if any attention from the guards. Of course he appears to be a common bard. He has his mind on coin, and one way or another he intends to make some.

Lexikandras would join in the chants of fealty towards the Dragon lady, rising to her full stature, and likely even sometimes jumping to her rear legs only in her fervor. She was already considering how she would be able to lead her kin to victory over the humans, and spread the dragon queen's hunger to the population. Her fire magic would make short work of most humanoid food supplies.

In the following march, the dracotaur kept to herself, mainly silently bemoaning the lack of proper meals along the road. Once they neared the town, she would nod in agreement with the half-dragonborn. Though she was more of a half dragon in the literal sense, Lexi was still respectful of the plan, enjoying the deviousness of it while considering "Our party likely would not be regarded as normal though... I doubt they would so easily trust us."

The order to destroy the town's food is the next best thing to getting to devour the entire town wholesale. After all, there was no specification to the means. If she eats everything it's the same result as the food being destroyed in the end. Even if it does nothing for her hunger, she'll at least get to feel full from eating an entire town's stockpile. New converts are a more important thing than personal satisfaction.

During the trip Nezasit is actually quite social. With the lesser cultists if the lesser chosen are uninterested. Her would be personal tent generally occupied by a few guests each night. Why wouldn't they want to be closer to one with the form of a dragon?

"Don't be so quick to dismiss the potential of honeyed words to a desperate populace. The town was sacked not long ago. The people will be desperate. Rissle's plan of acting like adventurers could work swimmingly. It's easier to get information like where the people that attacked them went from people who think you're trying to help them than ones that are cowering in fear. We don't need their trust, just their cooperation." She thinks for a moment, attempting to refine the ploy. "In fact, instead of attacking at a predesignated time from now. We could play the people, get the information, and 'depart' in the direction of the heretics. Afterward we meet up with the main force and relocate the staging area to that direction. Then we return in a rush. 'They're coming back! Everyone needs to get into the castle before they return!' All the people bundled up and ready for our feast without pesky problems like stragglers running away. And no need to torch the town a second time so all their food can be dessert."

Jayazi joins in the chant enthusiastically. The march is fairly uneventful and she occupies her time chatting with the other commanders and getting to know them.

"I like this plan, its better than mine." of course, Jayazi's plan had simply been 'Get 'em!" so the bar wasn't all that high but it did seem like a good plan.

Rissle takes a moment to spy ahead while The Chosen are planning. It's daylight out, giving a clear view of the town. The mill seems to function as both food storage and production. It looks like guards have been posted there permanently following the raid. On the far side of the keep is the church, which is well defended by a high wall. She figures that some might run to it for safety if the keep was out of reach.

And the Keep. Searching around, there's only one way in and out; the main gate. A drainpipe is visible near the riverside, but it's blocked up, and you'd likely be in single file combat trying to force your way down it. Anyone who makes it to the keep is out of reach, save for a full scale siege, and there's still the separatists to find. Lexikandras' point is valid: While Jayazi and Malark would fit in as humans, the others would stand out clearly in the keep.

The cultists accompanying you are divided in opinion. Those who spent their nights with Nezasit are strongly in her favor, whereas some, but not all, think a hit-and-run ignoring the keep would be best. Regardless of disagreement, all cultists will respect and follow orders given to them by the Chosen without question. They await your decision, the kobolds sitting close by each draconic member of the party in silent awe.

Jayazi is conflicted, as tempting as a simple hit and run sounds she knows that they wouldn't be able to capture as many townsfolk as if they infiltrated first. She wasn't as concerned about not getting the information though, she could be pretty intimidating when she wants and 'which way did the people who took your stuff go?' wasn't a secret most people would be likely to risk there lives to keep, especially after she made an example of one of them.

"It could still work if I go in alone or maybe with a few troopers. We pretend to be adventurers and find out where the heretics went. Then everyone else comes in like we planed. We can even try to steer them into the church, it doesn't look as well defended as the keep. Or we just sweep in and try grab as many people and as much grub as we can and burn the rest, its up to you guys. Either way I suggest we come in from the front of the keep so that more of 'em have farther to run."

When they were still on the road, Rissle was generally quite busy with scouting ahead to find the best path forwards, and keeping any travellers from finding their little troop, getting a few good meals in the process, as well as foraging for more conventional food too. She wouldn't have been opposed to a little idle chit chat whenever she actually was with the main group, but unless it was raining or wet outside, the ranger would have graciously declined Nezasit offer, preferring to sleep outside rather than in a tent. The layer of fabric muffles sounds and blocks sight from the inside, after all.

Back in the present time were they were discussing battleplans, Rissle would nod with a little in agreement to much of what the three other chosen had to say, tossing Nezasit a little smirk as it seemed like the two of them thought very much alike. Seeing an opening in the convesation, the ranger decided to butt in and delegate the information she had gained in her little scouting of the town, saying, "So, the church actually had a pretty sizeable wall all the way around it. We won't be able to climb it without ladders, so assaulting that first may actually become a tad bit problematic. Not that we should have a lot of trouble with it, but we can assume that a good few of the villagers carry around crude weapons after the raid. Perhaps a few others started to hunt for food with bows and arrows after their stockpiles were stolen, so they may even have a few passable archers among their numbers. I doubt the guards by the watermill are going to stick around alone if a whole band of warriors come charging towards them, so they might very well retreat to the church since it's much closer than the keep. And I bet there is a cleric or priest or someone in the church, who might draw out the battle even longer by providing healing, and acting as a temporary leader to rally the peasants. If we use too much time on the church, the soldiers and citizens in the little castle would have time to prepare, arm themselves and build fortifications, which would be alright if we don't intend to take the keep. Buuut if we are going to eat all their food and force the survivors to embrace their gift, we need to take that keep. Every keep has atleast a few rations to last a little siege, but after the raid, I bet the stockpiles there has been expanded greatly. Additionally, taking out the leadership of the town is essential in seeing it's destruction, otherwise the mayor or commander of the guards or someone would step up and keep law and order, and we do not want that after we leave, right?"

She gave a little puff as she realized she had talked quite a bit already, which was a bit unusual for her, but then again, this was about tactics, not idle chit chat, Rissle looked over the other commanders once before smiling and continuing, "But I think I have a plan to avoid anyone fleeing to the church! I look human enough right, so as long as I hide my tail in underneath my cape, and perhaps wrap it up in another, hide my hands, and keep anyone from seeing my back when I stand still and my tail makes a big bulge in it, no one should realize that I am more than just a human. So I walk into the church alone, pretending to be visiting a grandparent or someone's grave, stalk the cleric, deal with him, then as I see our 'adventuring party' head out to find the 'mercenaries', I leave and lock the gates to the church grounds. Sure, a few people would probably be inside, but without anyone to lead them and few in numbers, they would probably just end up praying for their salvation and utterly wasting their time. Oh, and uh, there is a drainage pipe going from the keep and outside the village, we need to block that up before we attack so no one tries fleeing out that way."

Malark had been walking through town and had just arrived at the inn. It seemed like everyone was on high alert so he thought it best not to try any scams at present. He walked up to the inn keeper and asked a simple question: " how much is for a night, provided there is vacancy?" he decided to get himself room and board first and foremost, likely spending the rest of the daylight hours exploring the town.

Even though she has popular support and a desire to eat the town's stockpile instead of destroy it Nezasit considers all the viewpoints to accomplish their goals effectively. "Okay, okay. We definitely don't have time, people, or equipment to be sieging the keep. Which means no chance to turn their food stores into a feast of food to follow up the feast of villagers. Especially if we assume they'll be picking us apart from the walls. That assumption makes the lightning raid the smart choice. In and out before they organize the defense." Nez thinks for a minute. Pondering further action. "No iconography during the assault. We want them to turn to Taimat and her gift. If the damage is overtly done by her followers they will blame her and hurt that goal in the long run. Secondary stores in the keep can actually work in our favor. They will create inequality. From the desperation born of that inequality an acceptance of Tiamat's teachings can take root. What we give up in feast and satisfaction now will lead to recruits in the long term. Tiamat's following will grow more powerful from our personal sacrifice." She nods to reassure herself that what she's missing out on will benefit in the long run. "Are there any volunteers to return here peacefully in the future to preach Tiamat's will for our bothers and sisters to be?" She's no Wyrmspeaker and hadn't intended to turn the strategy talk into a small speech at the end there. But sometimes these things happen and looking like a dragon might count for something in public speaking to the cult.

"Back to the initial infiltration in light of potentially using this revised plan. If you can remove their cleric it would likely increase the potential of conversions. Likewise you could plant a few symbols in areas that our attack won't touch. To plant seeds of curiosity in the minds of the villagers. But it is imperative that and such markings could not be mistaken for our attacking force defacing surfaces. In addition to gathering the information on the heretic's movements I'll need you to scout and plan our own route in and out of the town for the attack while you are there. That will be crucial to it's success. As speed and surprise are key."

Rissle takes a few experimental methods to hide her... less human features, finding the effort sticking somewhat. As long as she didn't stand too close to any one person for extended periods, she could pass herself off as a human. If she wanted, she could safely slip into town. Jayazi can also enter with ease if she wishes to.

Malark stopped by the town inn, Nighthill Way, slipping to the counter. As he asks for lodgings, the innkeeper replies, a hint of exhaustion in his voice.

"A room, I can get you for two silver, food's a little more pricey, but I wouldn't stick around if I were you. We got raided, couple of days ago, and we 'aint right yet. See, we keep seeing them raiders still, on the horizon. Waiting. Watching. Governor Nighthill's tryin' to keep people from just packing up, but that Lily's the only one who'll stand up to them. You still be wanting that room?"

Nezasit's call for a volunteer has a forest of hands shoot up in response, those who weren't already enraptured by her instead taken in by her call to serve the Dragon Queen. When night falls, a scouting team will identify routes and patrols, reporting back to her.

Rissle wasn't at all convinced about the effectiveness of a simple raid in forcing the people to turn on each other, stating, "I sincerely doubt there are going to be any mayor inequality other than some minor stealing here and there. It a tiny town after all, there aren't any greedy nobles here backed up by a ton of mean guards! Everyone probably knows eachother, and each guard likely have family in the town, and wouldn't just abandon them! If anything, the guarding force might enstate some sort of marshal law where the people trying to grab more than their fair share might end up on the menu instead, but that's as far as I think we will go with your plan. If we burned everything but the keep, they would all probably just share the remainder of their stockpiles, then leave the town looking for a new home. And worst of all, we would have to moderate ourselves in our feasting, keeping as many villagers alive as possible to keep the ratio of hungry mouths to food high!

Grumbling quite audibly as it looked like the feast of villagers she had been looking forwards to for two weeks now might be cancelled, the shapely ranger kicked the ground in anger, only to calm down again to add, "Well, I should go and see if I can remove the cleric or whatever and get his keys. But just saying, if we really want to bolster our future ranks with cannibalistic village folk, we should just ready a cautious attack on the keep from the outside, while a sizeable force snuck in through the drainage pipe to slaughter or eat as many of the guards and leadership as we could before they noticed us, sounding off a horn to signal the rest of our force to attack if we rouse the sleeping guards. It should force any other villagers to flee to the church, which probably doesn't have a lot of food, theeen we can burn everything down. I don't quite know wether or not the drainage pipe actually is a viable route inside the keep, might check that out later. But I would like a buddy with me to keep me company, just to be on the safe side. For now though, I will go have a look around the church"

Rissle would theb start to walk off in the direction of the village, specifically the church grounds, leaving the final say in their plans to the other chosen. Pulling up her hood as much as she could without looking too suspicious, trying to keep as many villagers from being able to distinguish the features on her face, both as to dissuade anyone from growing interested in the new face around town, and to reduce the risk of getting her face plastered on a wanted poster if a survivor makes it to another town and actually remembers how she looked.

As Rissle approached the church, she found its doors to be closed, a hastily crafted sign hanging between them. The sign read "Confessionals currently being held: please return later." There was little reason to doubt this; the main gate was still wide open, allowing one to freely explore the church grounds.
