Not bring able to access eka's on certain devices?

Postby AzurePheonix » Fri Dec 23, 2016 2:05 pm

For the past few days, my 3ds and wii u have not been able to access the portal. I like to have the convenience of bring able to play games and access the internet, so this is a problem for me. Did someone on eka's pull an update recently ? And for those of you thinking "Well Nintendo is family-friendly." I'm still able to access other porn sites, meaning the problem resides with eka's. Thanks to any staff reading and willing to fix this!

Whats the Problem, you don't decribe it correctly and detailed. Whats happening if you try to access to the Portal? Provide more information if you want anyone to fix that^^

Try to fill out basic stuff like, if you want changes, you have to help too^^:
- What happend (may with steps to reprude)
- If you know whats the Browser on a 3DS?
- Your OS (3DS given)
- Other Infos

--------------
Lucky for you, I have an 3DS as well and try it by myself.

> I get this message "SSL-Connection failed", just if I go on this Website.
So something is wrong with the SSL-Cert or the 3DS is not able to handle it (May it can't use the encryption which is used on this site or whatever)
Its not easy to figure out why, since you don't have any error-log or such stuff on the 3DS.
--------------
Its not SSL in general:
-> I try to access https://google.com it works without Problems. (Encryption method: "TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_GCM_SHA256 - 128Bit-Key")
-> My local Webserver which don't even has a valid SSL-Certificate but it worked on every page. (Just bitches me every time that the cert is invalid/insecure xD but shows me everything) (Encryption-Method: "TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 - 256Bit-Key") -> Same like on Ekas, but SSL on 3DS works on my Test-Page...

I guess it may has something to do with the encryption method provided by Ekas. May the 3DS don't provide "TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 - 256Bit-Key" as encryption method and thats why you can't access this site. You can try to push Nintendo to implement more encryption methods for SSL but I don't think that they will do...
That's weird because this Encryption-Method work on other sites but not on Ekas?

Edit: IF this site was using Lets-Encrypt it will not work on 3DS (See here) but Its a Certificate from "COMODO CA Limited" so thats some kind of strange... Try out other Sites with this Encryption-Method and the same Validator, may you run into the same Problems?

I even don't know what kind of Browser is that... Wait i will look to the Web-server-Log ^^ Its: (None...) It doesn't even has a Browser Signature... See:
Spoiler: show
<my_ip> - - [23/Dec/2016:22:57:51 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 26

Uff that was a pain in the ass, to write with the touch pen on that tiny Tastatur, IDK why you like to Browse on that cruel thing? ^^

Contact Leshana. If there's no answer from her, ask Eka.

When you login to Eka's portal today, you are generally logging in through a secure and encrypted connection (this was done possibly to prevent hacking
and exploits, and even DDoS attacks. The possibility for this is that under a secure connection, this requires more loading time on browsers (I've done this on Facebook before, and yet I'm present on this issue despite secure connections).

On the website, I have not encountered the issue, but I have spoken to Eka about a similar question regarding visiting the site via mobile phones and such, she replied to me with this when I spoke regarding mobile pages:

Hey Eka, do you happen to know if you or Leshana are working on the mobile version of the website still, or has it been discontinued from being worked on?

When I usually don't have access to my computer, I can go on the site via mobile, and it's accessible for me, the only general difference between the original and mobile site is the front page, are updates to the page being worked on by Leshana or has the mobile version been discontinued, and neither one of you will be updating the mobile version?

I'd like to hear about the mobile version to see if there is any further progress that will eventually be made to the mobile website.

Her response:

When we have announcement to make we will be sure to post it in announcement thread.

PS: For this matter, when it comes to browsing through the site, I would encounter the front page completely different as it is in beta. Eka and Leshana are currently busy working to improve it and make it possible in the near future. There is a private forum, but it is granted exclusively to users who are granted specific priviledges by Eka herself. Although I am working to learn how to script and make a website for myself, I will be doing this in the future for my technology in repairing computers. Eka may allow people to voluntarily work on the website if she approves of your technical skill and how you can make web pages and script, along with repair script failures and such.

The browser on a 3DS is technically a custom made one by Nintendo themselves or some other company, the name isn't known, but it's not much secure for browsing, and the accessibility on it isn't that good, so if you wanted to access the site, the original Wii could be a better option for you to try out, as the screen is wider and such, but on the Wii U, it's a little bit larger than the 3DS, but it still has some flaws to handle.

Leshana mainly codes the scripts on the site, so message her for this issue.

Both the 3DS and Wii U browsers are based on WebKit (the Safari engine.) You can actually download the source Nintendo uses on their website: https://www.nintendo.co.jp/support/oss/index.html

The original Wii used a browser based on the Presto engine (the engine Opera used before switching to Blink.)

I don't have a DS, so I have nothing to say about this matter.

Edit: After some searching I found this. If it is the same error, there's nothing we can really do. We are not going to change our Security cert just because DS being silly about it.

Not really a "Eka's Portal" problem. Just Nintendo being silly from the look for it.

Contact Leshana. If there's no answer from her, ask Eka.

Generally speaking. You should just PM me for any issue. That is the workflow established in the FAQ. You are free to contact Leshana directly if you want but we have specified who to contact for good reasons: Namely. Staffs other than me (Eka) doesn't necessary monitor their PM or inbox.

Interesting comment, but this really isn't meant to be a tech support forum. Overall agreeable, but I'm not sure how much we can help with this. If he really need help, all we really get for you guys is that we don't support those devices and do our best effort. I will just contact OP directly if he needs more help.

The question is why this changed. On December 21st I applied security updates and upgraded some server software. If its true that 3DS is particularly out of date as far as TLS/SSL support, then it is entirely possible that this is why it broke. If so however, there isn't going to be much that can fix it, because the updates are necessary to fix real security problems. I don't have a 3DS anyway, and SSL labs doesn't simulate a 3DS handshake.
If you can identify a specific cipher suite that it requires, or show me a handshake simulator for it, then I'd be willing to change a setting, but not to downgrade openssl.

Perhaps someone with a 3DS experiencing the problem can look here: https://cc.dcsec.uni-hannover.de/ and find out what cipher suites they support.
