Filtered Watch Lists?

Postby Baz » Fri Mar 24, 2017 7:50 am

While I love the features we have in the gallery I'm starting to notice two persistent problems:

One, it seems to think I have something on the blacklist which isn't there (I still can't find what it is), which seems to be a case of user error.

Two: Things on my blacklist still show up in the watch-list. There are things on there which are outright squicks for me, which I believe is the point of the blacklist. But there's NO warning at all that something in my watched-for list has tags that I've got blacklisted on it. For example, I have F/F on whitelist and Underage on blacklist. Things with underage appear in my watch list because of the F/F...

I have underage stuff on my blacklist due to... shall we say real life traumas. Please, can something be implemented to at least WARN me?

seriously, this needs to be fixed ASAP. as far as i'm aware, it's been an issue for a very long time. there's almost no point in having a blacklist feature if it doesn't affect your watch list. i've been unpleasantly surprised by quite a few things that i had blacklisted because they also shared a tag i was watching.

As an artist I would really appreciate having an improved blacklist filter, there's things I like to draw and things I plan to draw in the future that I'd rather not offend many of my fans with. Some people are offended at the simplest of things that are common in the vore community. I might draw a huggy, lovey endo one day and score some new fans, then turn around and draw some horridly painful digestion and get flipped nasty on.

Adding to that UK is becoming a surveillance state, hateful of all things that isn't consensual sex in the missionary position, I know some of my friends are afraid to browse here. Giving them a better measure of control on what they see and get logged on some government server would no doubt be appreciated.

I'm going to concur here.

The "whitelist" is really a "search" function - find things that contain X, where X might be M/M, furry, GTS - whatever the searcher is looking for. That's a good thing, as far as it goes.

A "blacklist" is really a "negative search" - something that I -never- want to see, for whatever reason. If I'm against scat, or cleavage, or whatever, I shouldn't have to see it if I've blacklisted it.

What you do when the lists conflict is critical.

It is my personal opinion that when something is on both Black and White, Black should win. A "never show me this" is a stronger imperative than a "please show me this."

From a technical perspective, It's actually hard to understand what's actually happening with the blacklist either way -
Either the blacklist filter is applied before the whitelist filter (in which case, items with blacklisted tags should already be excluded before the whitelist selects from the remaining universe of items), or the blacklist is applied after the whitelist (in which case, the blacklist should have removed things from the much narrower whitelisted universe). In either case, the blacklist should have "won" in the case of conflict. The fact that this is not happening suggests something is fundamentally broken with how it's working.
Trust no one. Even me.

Very much agreed. If people don't want to see something, then they shouldn't have to take huge precaution to avoid seeing it. While one could say "Just un-watch the artist", that's a very dogmatic way of putting it, basically saying "If this artist does so much as one thing that disturbs me then I'm out!" Saying "Oh just stop being so sensitive" isn't going to help anyone either. If people can't have their preferences and feel comfortable with them, then why bother socialising with others about vore at all?

There are plenty of artists who draw stuff that I preferably don't want to see, but I still want to be able to show my support and keep tabs on them because of their skill and style. I'm not saying that the gallery is inherently bad, I'd just say that fixes to the blacklist/watch list system would boost its functionality and give a further sense of security.

I agree that this is a good idea. I don't watch any tags myself, but it seems like it would be a very useful feature for those who do.

Thanks for the suggestion. This has been bought up many times before and will continue to be on our list of stuff to do when we have time. Thank you for bringing this up again.
