Being a newbie trainer was...not fun, put bluntly.

Said trainer was Avery, who'd been training with their Magikarp for a whole month since they'd received them as their first and only Pokemon. With no funds to buy more Pokeballs, and having made no process, he was desperate. He'd been staying at the local Pokemon Center during his training. But now, something had to change.

Downstairs, the young man walked up to a trade center, free-to-use for trainers. Magikarp wasn't going to cut it anymore, unfortunately. With a sigh of disappointment, he accessed the Wonder Trade servers, offered his Magikarp in it's Pokeball up for trade, and waited for the system to automatically match him up with a random partner and start the trade. After a minute, the process was complete. Nervously, Avery picked up the Pokeball holding his new partner, and sent them out...

Out came what would feel like a miracle to Avery.

The Pokemon stood tall, in a confident stance. Their wide hips made them look like they were wearing baggy pants, their spikes were instantly recognizable, their fox-like face obvious. This was a Lucario. A fighting/steel type, it was a very sought-out Pokemon. They looked down at you, seeming to be judging.

(Oh, what gender?)

(Hmm...female. Or futa. Either works.)

Avery let out an audible gasp, looking utterly astonished. He'd heard stories of powerful trainers with Lucarios of their own. And now he had one of his own right before him! He smiled nervously, concerned with making a good first impression. "H-hi! I'm Avery...y-your new trainer!"

The lucario looked at him a moment before scoffing. "...step aside, boy, where's the real trainer?" She roughly pushed him aside as she looked around. "A warrior deserves better than this..." She sighed when she discovered he was for real, turning to him. She took her own pokeball from him, putting it on her own belt (somehow). "If anything, you should be MY Pokemon..."

It seemed his partner was...less than eager about this. Avery reached for his Pokeball after it'd been snatched from him, but his better judgement told him she wouldn't respond kindly to that. "I'm sorry, that's, uh, not how it works..." Avery again reached for the Pokeball, but caught himself and reeled back. "B-but, did your original trainer give you a name? Do you not have one, or...?"

The lucario goofed her arms and faced you. Now you'd notice her...bulge. "My trainer didn't give me one. I'll name myself, thank you. Call me Annabeth, pup."

"O-ok, Annabeth it is." Avery complied. "We still have the whole day ahead of us, so, how about we do some training!" He offered, trying to stay enthusiastic. Although, some "things" about her stuck out to Avery, who tried his best not to stare.

Annabeth slowly raised an eyebrow. She picked him up by the scruff of his neck and walked out of the pokemon center. Avery would feel like she was treating him like some naughty baby Riolu! She put him down once they were in the forest. "...you REALLY think I need any training?"

He started to squirm like bait on a hook as he was grabbed, his face being both scared and grateful once he was put down. "I-I don't know...we just met, s-so..." Avery caught himself and tried to fix his mistake. "Not that I'd d-doubt your power or anything!"

Annabeth folded her arms, tapping her foot. "You want proof? Bring out all your pokemon. I'll wipe them all out within a minute." She smirked, savoring the idea of doing that and putting him in his place...

There was a moment of silence, and then a nervous gulp. "Annabeth...you're m-my...my only Pokemon." Avery explained, eyes glued to the ground in shame. "I don't even...w-well, have a single badge yet, either..." He felt his heart sunk at admitting this. She had no respect for him before she knew this, who knows what she'd think of him now?

Annabeth's momentary smile faded. She folded her arms a bit. "...train me...with what Pokemon..." She smirked. "Well. How about this..." She got in a fighting stance. "You be my sparring partner. We'll see who should be training who."

All the color vanished from Avery's face. "F-fight you? But I can't..." The look on her face told him he wasn't going to be able to convince her otherwise, and sighed. "Fine..." Avery took a defensive stance, waiting for Annabeth to strike. He was no fighter, and only had basic defensive stances on his side. Avery wondered if he could snatch her Pokeball off of Annabeth when her guard was down...it'd be his best chance at winning, anyways.

Well, that plan immediately went up in smoke. Annabeth threw an Aura sphere at Avery, blasting him into a tree. A couple force palms later, and she finally relented, knowing she'd won. That took about...15 seconds. She smirked, standing on his chest. "...you belong to me now. You don't deserve to call yourself my trainer."

Wheezing and coughing in pain, Avery was a shivering and sniveling mess. Annabeth standing on his chest didn't help either. The only response he could give was a soft weep, still reeling in pain.

Annabeth got off, pointing at him for a moment. "Stay here." She hurried off. A few minutes later, before you recovered fully enough, she was back, smirking softly. She had some strange device with her and a collar. She put the collar on you, grinning as she showed you the device. "...you know what this is?"

When she'd got back, Avery was sitting up against the tree, eyes red and dry. Before he knew it, there was suddenly a collar on his neck. He looked up at Annabeth, confused. "W-what?" He muttered, looking at the device in her hands.

She then put the device on the pokeball. It beeped, and glowed red a moment before a light on the device glowed green. She looked excited. "That's me released..." She then tossed the pokeball in her hand, the device clipped on. "...you never did catch a pokemon, I believe. Let me teach you about it." She took a step or two back. "...first you weaken the pokemon to the point of fainting...much like how you are now..." She then casually tossed it at you. "...then you throw an empty pokeball at it." It bounced off of you, before it opened. Suddenly, you felt yourself get sucked inside!

Avery watched, bewildered, and before he knew it, Avery was absorbed into the Pokeball with a flash of light. In full panic mode, he wailed out for help, banging against the sides of the ball desperately. This almost like a waking nightmare to him...

Annabeth waited. Wobble. Wobble. Wobble. Click. She smiled, picking up the ball. She called Avery out with a smile. "Well, you're my pokemon now. My previous trainer had ties to an underground market...I got it from there." She rubbed his head.
