What she saw was a rather peculiar woman who was carrying a large shell on her back. From the waist and up she looked normal, even wearing an oversized red hoodie. On the waist and below however, she was having the body of a snail, and from the looks of it, she was not going particularly fast. One could even see the slime trail she had left on the sidewalk.

She wasn't particularly attentive and seemed to just move in a straight line. One could even say her look was dazed.
Seeing Vals uniform however made her wake up slightly whereas she retreated into her shell.

Val didn't quite know how to respond to the situation, usually it would be a case of someone lingering as if staking out a home that they could potentially break in or a former lover with a grudge but this.....it was unexpected and the officer was certainly new to coming face to face with a snail.

“Maa'm, could you please....reveal yourself, a call was made about someone loitering and I believe you are the person in question. Would you care to explain yourself?”

Val didn't want to jump to conclusions because she didn't know if the woman was a problem or just really slow, it was entirely possible after all.

The woman slowly lifted the shell up and poked her head out. Her voice was very slow, dragging on each word for quite a bit.
"I'm not loitering, I'm just...not particularly fast."
She paused slightly. (Or from Vals point of view, for quite some time.)
"It's not the first time someone has called in about me. I can't help it."

If one looked around, one could see that the lights right by this particular had gone out, thus it was hard to see clearly the figure of the person if one wasn't standing nearby.

Val approached the woman slightly not feeling particularly threatened by the situation, the snail after all was slow, much slower than the officer so even standing next to the snail Val would still have a great deal of time to react.....or so she thought anyway.

“This has happened a few times? On this road or other locations?” Val's tone changed slightly to a more accepting one, she was understanding of the situation. “Is there anyway that I can help you?”

The snail woman put her hand to her chin and thought for a long time.
"Can't remember, not really anything that I put my thoughts into."
She bobbed her head a bit back and forth.
"Suppose you got like, reflexive paint or anything? I'd be more visible at least."

Val sighed as she looked at the snail woman, while a unique case it was obvious that there wasn't any threat and there wasn't exactly anything that the officer could do either aside from joke along with the woman.

“Perhaps indicators would be better...or lights for your shell. Either way I can see there's no problem here maa'm. I'll leave you be if there's no need for assistance”

The snail woman nodded, lights or indicators was in fact a good idea.
"Thank you officer, I'll do that. I don't think I need any assistance with that."

The rest of the night went without any other trouble.
Val would know that her shift was over when she could see the early morning sun rise.
It was still early, so the only ones at work were the mailharpies delivering the urgent mail. (Cars were used for your usual slower mail.)

At this point, Val could head back to the station, heard back home or do something else in her spare time.

(just to say, i'll be gone for a week so please don't take my lack of posts for disinterest. I'll reply when i get back ^^)

Val watched one of the harpies get to work in delivering the mail, in her hands she gripped a large package that she expertly placed on the doorstep of a house before flying away, it all happened in less than five seconds. Harpies certainly were experts in flying but of course the officer knew that already because of her partner.

Knowing her shift had come to an end Val yawned deciding that it was time to return back to the station, as much as she didn't want to she knew there was paperwork still to deal with, she hated the thought of sitting behind a desk typing, especially know that she was tired from a full shift but it had to be done. Sluggishly Val wandered towards the station as the sun began to illuminate the city...

There were people still working at the police station, but since it was just before rush hour, it was a certain quiet over the whole place.
Val would meet some people going out the door as their shift was over.

There was a newspaper lying on Vals desk when she came in. It was from the "The Watchful Eye Tribunal", a rather infamous newspaper when it came to inflammatory headlines with rascist underlines. The writing inside wasn't particularly better.
The headline was:
"Mayors wife caught up in kidnapping scandal.
Harpy cop suspended after taking advantage of kidnapped victim."

The articles within were hearsay and rumours, interviews with people who had no connection to the case whatsoever, and the whole piece of newspaper lining up for a conclusion of:
"Can we really trust these mythological creatures to protect our citizens?"

(I'm back finally. Sorry about that ^^:)

The moment Val saw the headline she found herself raging with annoyance, her first instinct was to scream but she managed to hold it in to keep the station mellow if nothing else, that didn't stop the officer from grabbing the paper and ripping it to shreds however.

After a couple of minutes the paper was little more than confetti strewn across Val's desk.

“Those Assholes, they never print the truth.....must be in the mayor's pocket.”

Sighing Val collapsed into her chair and sluggishly reached for her mouse and key board to start the boring paperwork, the sound of key's clicking soon followed but it was clear that the officer was hating it, not simply writing the report but having to relive it as well.

A mail had appeared in Vals inbox.
It was from the chief.
It was quite simple in prose as he was never one to beat around the bush.

It was a reassignment from the current location (under the assumption that nothing had happened that rquired more police forces stationary) to a bit more dangerous part of the town.
This due to the latest news which had caused a bit of an uproar among certain individuals. The "WFHO" (World for Humans Only) group were attempting to use the latest events as the means to instigate a riot in lower middleclass areas.

Police File:
WFHO:
Spoiler: show
Name: World for Humans Only
Founded: 1920
Political Ideology: Though outwards they try their best to seem like a group protecting human working class interests against the intrusion of Mythical creatures in the work force, reports show that they quite often instigate rascism and discrimination, sometimes even violence.
Number: Unknown, but we reckon less than 3000 in the country.

Val was hesitant to read the mail straight away knowing that she had to finish her paperwork and so so after some rather swift typing that left her fingers sore and the form filled with typo's the officer finally opened and read. A sigh came from the officer's lips quite quickly.

Val had confronted members of the WFHO in the past and always she had had to deal with it with a sour taste in her mouth, protesting was a right of all but when it turned violent the officer knew full well no good would come of it, no doubt there would be a number of arrests and for those on the force not a human there would no doubt be challenges, it wasn't just her harpy partner that used her stomach after all.

Grabbing her gear once again Val clicked send effectively ending her paperwork before grabbing in a squad car to head towards the scene of the incident, it was going to be a long one...

It was clear that trouble would be brewing as Val got close to the adress.
A police van had showed up and was giving out riot gear to the police at hand.
It was for the most part humans or human-looking officers there, the harpies had been situated at nearby tall buildings to keep watch, the ones who's features couldn't be hidden with a helmet were to be backup in the squadvan or policecar.

The chief looked at Val as she arrived:
"Oh, Val, I didn't expect you to show up, this is outside your shift and all."

He handed her a shield and helmet.
"It is appreciated. I can't believe they managed to get so many people riled up."

The officer shrugged slightly as she took the riot gear, while it may have been after her shift officer's were always on duty and as much as she needed to sleep she just didn't want to, her mind was still fixated on the problems of the day before.

“I felt like I would be of more use here chief, I am human after all. Perhaps I can reason with some of the protestors if nothing else”

Val quickly tightened her stab vest and put the helmet on before arming herself with the shield, she looked pretty deadly but nothin in comparison to seeing a centaur in full riot uniform, they were a true force but of course would be very out of place, humans would hopefully be enough to combat the situation.

“Any idea how it started? Any main instigators?”

The chief smiled slightly at Vals comment. One could almost see a little bit of pride well up inside, almost.

"We suspect that the WFHO showed up With their Group first and then just riled everyone up."
"They are within their full right to use their Speech to disagree and demonstrate, but if Things get out hand and they start being violent, that's when we have to come in and put some cuffs on 'em."

"The fire Department loaned us a couple of their Nereids in case Things get a bit heated up."
One of the other police men leaned over:
"He means Molotov cocktails."

The chief continued:
"As much as I'd liked to take a bite out of whoever started this, we can't risk the amount of bad publicity that would get. We have some cannisters of teargas, but I would avoid using them as well unless they get too eager for a fist fight."

Police File:
Nereids are usually deployed within the fire Department due to their ability to Control water. They don't handle heat well, so they are usually just used to make the water douse the fire.
They look human for the most part, but have a blueish tint to their skin and will sport a Fishtail if submerged in water.
Predatorial tendencies are unheard of, though they have the ability if someone harass them. (Notable mention: BP accident in the Mexico gulf)

“Take a bite? Bad choice of words in this situation chief, don't let the protesters hear you say that or it'll get worse” The officer smirked lightly before she pulled the visor of her helmet down. Her attention quickly turned to the protester, it was somewhat quiet but that could change easily.

Sighing Val nodded to the chief before she turned to face the protesters, no doubt she would be met with the same comments she always expected. “Species traitor, pred lover, oppresser”, Val just had to get on with it and as she faced the group she swallowed.

“Please could you remain calm and in and orderly fashion, free speech is your right but we would prefer to keep damages and injury to the bare minimum for everyone's benefit and safety.”

The mob of people weren't particularly inclined to listen anything the police had to say, but they were more bark than bite as they resorted to signwaving and shouting rather than outright fighting.
A couple of rocks were thrown from the midst of the mob, but they would bounce off the police shields.

After an hour of this, rain began to drip from the above, increasing in strength until the mob were properly wet and tired. Only the most enthuastic ones were left to shout, but without the proper clothing they too found themselves unwilling to continue.

A news crew had been filming the debacle for quite a while, but with the sudden appearance of rain they were forced to retreat as well as to not ruin their equipment. With the protesters gone, the news crew were now attempting to get interviews with the police officers. They had sent a human reporter for the job, but they were one of the stations that hired non-human newsreaders. (It wasn't a secret that some of them were werewolves, but they usually shaved in their human form before going on TV.)

Val sighed as the last few stragglers seemed to start leaving, the street while littered with rubbish, rocks and other items from the crowd was at least peaceful once more aside from the line of officers and the few reporters there. Seeing the sign to be clear Val removed her helmet to enjoy the rain, the helmet had been too warm so the rain was the perfect solution. Wiping her face lightly the officer turned only to come face to face with one of the reporters.

Val didn't really want to comment, she could see the reason for the protest because at times inter species relations were hard in all ways at one point or another but there was no reason why they couldn't work on it.

“Show's over now folks, if you'd also like to leave I think that would be best”

The journalists left Val alone as the Chief grumbled nearby, indicating that he didn't want them to interview police officers in person. If they wanted an interview, it would have to be with him or the police spokesperson.

"You should go visit Mae when you have the time." The chief spoke to Val.
"There's nothing left to do here, but clean up, and that's not our job to do."
