Kyrar didn’t answer right away. For a moment she was breathing heavily as the last sensations faded. “Just a little something to save your life.” She replied once she got her breathing back under control. “Don’t worry, I’ll get you out at the surface when the storm passes. It shouldn’t be long.”

Oran pressed out at the womb with one of his hands feeling around it. "Well... thank you," he said. "I take it you saw everything?"

“Pretty much; your pod rising, getting struck by lightning and falling back down… I don’t think you’ll be able to get anything back from it.” Kyrar said as she looked down towards the pod, which had come to rest on the ocean floor again.

Oran nodded. "I don't doubt that." His fingers then started to drum on the flesh around him. Then he started shifting around, checking his suit and pockets.

“Would try not to do that? It’s kinda… distracting.” Kyrar asked as she felt the human shifting around in her.

Oran looked up at where he imagined his host's face was. "Sorry," he said. "I was just checking to see if I had all of my gear on me." He pulled out a small radio, but paused before switching it on. "Have you ever done this before?"

“I haven’t. But I’ve heard of other mermaids doing it.” Kyrar replied. Using her arms only to propel her, so as not to disturb her passenger, she swam to the seabed. The storm wasn’t going away anytime soon so she figured she may as well take a nap.

"Ah," Oran said. "Well, thanks. You really made my day." Then he tried didling with his radio for a moment. "Damn, the signal's not getting through," he muttered. He wiggled a little, as restrainedly as he could, in order to put it back in his belt.

“You may as well get comfortable. That storm is going to take a while to move away or die out.” Kyrar said as she settled on a patch of seaweed. She closed her eyes and in a few moments she fell asleep.

Oran scowled for a moment, then stretched himself out a bit, trying to get comfortable. Once he'd worked out his muscles, he curled up and drifted off to sleep himself.

Asleep as they were, neither the human nor mermaid knew of what was happening in the latter’s womb. From the walls of Kyrar’s womb a fleshy umbilical cord grew, longer and longer until it attached right to Oran’s navel. Only a slight pinch for him and a slight jolt for her, neither enough to wake them, was all they would feel. Immediately after the connection was made the process began, blood and hormones began flowing between the two. Slowly Oran’s body began to change and regress.

Oran twitched a little as the umbilical attached to him. Still, he remained asleep as the process continued, just letting it happen.

When Kyrar awoke some time later the storm had finally abated. “Hey, human. The storm’s gone. I’m heading to the surface.” She said before she started swimming upward. She had no idea he hadn’t heard, nor that it would be a long time before he woke up. When she reached the surface she tried to push him out of her womb, but nothing happened. She tried again a couple times, but all she got out was his gear and clothing.

Oran did nothing. Oran could do nothing. As his equipment and flight suit were expelled, he slept, letting Kyrar's body work its magic on him.

For a long moment Kyrar floated there, wondering what was going on. She thought back on what her mother had told her about this, perhaps she had missed something. Eventually she found the memory about what happened if the human remained in her too long. “Oh dear…” She murmured as her face flushed in embarrassment. But she was also a bit excited, she had thought about being a mother for a while now. She dove back beneath the waves and headed towards home, she had to at least let her parents know she was pregnant.

Oran remained asleep inside the woman now pregnant with him. His only movements were the occasional twitch, except for one big spasm of a kick.

Many months passed for Kyrar. Much of her free time was spent readying her home for a new baby, which would be coming any day now. Her parents had been thrilled to hear the news she was expecting, her father a bit less so because of the means by which she got pregnant.

Inside of her womb, Oran spent a lot of time sleeping, occasionally squirming or kicking out. One day, Oran let out a spectacular squirm.

Kyrar gasped as she felt the squirm. It was the sign she’d been waiting for. She quickly swam outside to call over her friend and neighbor, Malila, who had agreed to help Kyrar with the birth.

Oran continued to squirm around inside the womb, by now cramped and eager to get out.
