Description is key, expand on every sensation and detail, not only will it fill up space, giving you a longer story, but it will make the story better and more engrossing. Just saying 'my sister dies of suffocation' doesn't say or tell much. Describe everything she is experiencing as she suffocates, the pain burning her lungs as her air slowly runs out, her feeble struggles and twitches as she begins to lose consciousness.

You could easily triple the length of this story just by describing everything, rather than stating it as a simple fact and moving on.
