I wonder, do zoo trainer/employee actually have to enter some elephant's ass if there is a problem like this?

As interesting as the thought is, I'm thinking no. Like with any other animal they'd wait for it to pass. If it didn't then they'd do an x-ray to see if surgical methods would be necessary, but an elephant's rear end is not big enough to admit a whole person without causing the animal a lot of pain and/or damage...reaching an arm in would be the only possible related thing. That photo is actually of a man with his arm in the elephant up to the shoulder, his head is on the other side of the tail. It sure has caused a lot of interesting discussion, though, and now this satire piece which is kind of amusing.
