Turning vore stories into audiobooks and plays

Postby extremelydevious » Thu Jun 18, 2015 8:26 pm

I recently got to thinking, why not have an area on the site to support the commissioning or vouluntary production of audiobook type readings of the vore stories in the gallery.

Lately ive found that in general the quality of literature on the site is below average, my own work included, in that its hard to read, content wise its generally good though.
Personally i like to do a story right, which involves many thousands of words setting up the settings, characters and scenario. Many others likely think the same way, the vore may be the highlight, but it it doesnt outweigh the story.

So, the idea is simple, give authors the option (like a check box) to allow their work to be recreated in audio form, or rather, that they want it to, anyone is free to do it either way and asking the author is an option also, and a subforum for voice acting and audio play production.
Fortunately with vore, allot of themes get used over and over again, so, it wont take long before a community sound effect collection builds up that has many sound effects applicable.

As the writers of stories are essentially the creators of the work, audio versions would have to be shared in credits, so either, a means to add the audio play to the writtings page, or at least link to it. Not everyone frequents the forum, in some cases people outright no longer use the forum for months to years after a content submission, so going through the writer in many cases would not be an option, but if they agree to have their work automatically linked to the audio version, it works out for everyone.

The process of producing is quite simple.
first you find a work you want to turn into an audio play, and decide upon the quality.
at the low end this means outright reading the story, putting in fair effort to express some of the emotions and such, really, the way a teacher would read a book to their class ultimately though its read word for word, depending on your voice and the story type, especially if its strictly third person, this can be sufficient, but in other cases, terrible even for a decent speaker. At the low end the work ends here.
At the high end, you alter the work somewhat, namely removing exclamations like he said, she shouted, ect, and either act out yourself or direct voice actors to do the lines.

Next process would involve posting an audition request for roles, receiving peoples auditions for the lines you select that would define the character. For the work here, of this nature it is generally enough to portray the persons age, gender and vocal steriotype, like deep voice for tall and musclular, soft and higher for someone of relatively small build, male or female. Most even lightly experienced voice actors should be able to pull off 2-3 natural voices without changing accent and many more in an unnatural voice suited for an unconventional character, such as a non-human character.

Once the auditions are received, the producer or head of the project, which may even be the author, instructs the best auditioners to perform the desired roles by all the actors.
As soon as there are sufficient auditioners to go ahead with the project, or even before, the producer would then locate various sound effects and ambient background audio. Radio plays often re-use allot of the same effects from a common package, eventually, given everyone shares their sources, locating effects wont be an issue.

Once the voices are done the project is put together, with a narrator for all third person content like describing whats happening and such, voices get inserted for the spoken lines, basically typical editing. Once its all done sound effects would be added and then your done.

A version with and without sound effects would be submitted. Ideally two, but its not entirely neccesary.

if a system is in place, this would result in a link appearing in the stories page as well as ideally, some indication on its icon that it has an audio version, sharing a page would be ideal, but i cant predict how it would work out.
It is however important that stories and their audio versions be linked together and that its possible to produce these works without the authors immediate consent, to be automatically linked to the original work, for instance something could be implied in the creative commons licensing during submission.

One other consideration is that dubbing for comics would work out essentially the same.

Unlike voice acting for a role in a video production, audio plays have much lesser requirements, just about anyone should be able to do it regardless of experience, the only limiting factor would be actor mic quality as a bad mic can ruin a project, depending on the content anyway, but this sort of thing gets screened out or accepted, in auditions.

Ive added a poll for Whether you think the site should incorporate audio plays of stories on the story page automatically as i suggested, a voice acting section for their commission or production, or outright not.

considerations for how a system might work would be along the lines of, having people vote on audio quality and accuracy, where the author does not ever say anything but has agreed that at some point in time they would allow for someone to add an audio version of their work to their works page. this being just to screen for anything that might have a negative effect on the original work, such as where the work is abridged or distastefully lacking in quality or effort.
