The Monster and his Mother

So, this scenario is HEAVILY borrowed from the original epic Beowulf, but an idea/character I've always liked is the sort where there is a powerful (either physically or by using something like Magic, ie an Ogress or a Witch or whatever) female predator, who spawns and whelps this absolutely gargantuan beast for a son-fangs, claws, the whole shpiel, but also (relatively) smart enough to be a competent carnivore than completely brainless. This predatory son more or less makes a nuisance of himself going on huge tears through the countryside, being big enough and smart enough to ransack villages, tribes, other monster person packs or the like, and manage to vanish scott-free.

Eventually, there comes either a savvy monster hunter or fellow predator who manages to corner the son, and after a vicious confrontation, the son is either mortally wounded, eaten alive and digested, or killed on the spot. And word gets around to the mother that her darling baby boy has his head on a pike-and now this incredibly big and nasty Monstress is on a roaring rampage of revenge.

I just think it'd be a neat concept for predators (perhaps Witches in particular) to have these absolutely beastly male offspring, and while the offspring are normally cunning and able to rip opponents limb from limb, they're also huge mama's boys who dote sweetly over their mother-and vice versa with the mother. Maybe even a two-way protection scenario-the mother/females have magic and spells, the males have physical prowess and keen senses in place of hexes and potions-as such, the male children are kept around for added physical protection. And if something befalls their mother...well god help whoever made Junior.
