Post-Human Predators?

Postby Redicicle » Wed Aug 18, 2021 7:31 am

I was thinking about vore predator concepts and one thing I was thinking was that distant descendents of Homo Sapiens could go in a lot of different directions, whether from evolution or genetic modification.

Most of these directions would initially fit into the same niche that humans currently do, but some might go into very different ways of life. They may or may not form civilizations, may or may not coexist with other humans, may or may not have tools or language, etc.

So... it's perfectly possible a predator that consumes it's prey whole could evolve given enough time and diversification of humans into new forms.

Any concepts for something like this? It doesn't necessarily need to be realistic. Although it would be appreciated if it at least:

1. Doesn't rely on outright magic. Bending biology maybe. But not like, humans evolving to teleport.

2. Makes the preds recognizeably not Homo Sapiens. That is, something about them should make it pretty obvious they aren't just a modern human but with vore capability.

3. Makes the preds still recognizeably human. Though by absolutely no means do I mean they must remain humanoid in bauplan.

I'll start with two creatures I just came up with

Parasol Striders

Highly intelligent hunters that dominate open savanna and plains, they use their long legs to chase down anything that will fit down their gaping throats before diving their face straight over it, lifting it up, and swallowing it whole. They're taller than some small trees and can easily snack on semi-arboreal creatures trying to climb out of danger. Their heads are large enough to accommodate their enormous mouths and also help shade their bodies from the constant sunlight. Without dense settlements based on agriculture, however, being nomadic hunters, they lack the permanent industry to process iron ore, and have forgotten how to do so long ago, so must rely on softer metals or stone for toolmaking, yet they still retain a form of written word. Their strong stomachs however mean they need not worry about cooking medium-sized prey and smaller, as the potent acid will sterilize their meals for them. Their own wide head shape presents a difficulty in swallowing them, so cannibalism is surprisingly rare and cooperation is fairly effective, however, other animal and human species are definitely on the menu.

Ambush predators that move by brachiating through the canopy of thick jungle, their mouth has grown to connect directly to their stomach through their abdoman, with the females of the species having one continuous orifice all the way down their bodies. They can move across the canopy for short bursts faster than an Olympic sprinter can run. They mostly sleep during the day, but at night, they stalk their prey, pulling them up with their dexterous tongue and legs before devouring them directly into their gaping stomach. On the ground, they are quite ungainly, having long lost the ability to stand upright. As such, while they sometimes make tools, they are usually made from bone, vines, wood or loose surface rocks rather than flint or other rare rocks. They will frequently expel bones of their prey to use for toolmaking, sometimes eating a meal purely to use it's skeleton for toolmaking. They however do not live in large colonies but are truly monogamous, mating for life or until the death of either partner. They typically do not react to the presence of others of their species, but when food is scarce, they will eat them if they get a successful ambush. Newly grown adults leave their parents and set off on their own, often mating with the first young adult member of the opposite sex they encounter for life. Their use of fire is heavily restrained due to the threat it poses to their body and their hunting grounds. As such, outside tropical rainforests, this species is rare and mostly relies on sewn leaves, leather or furs for clothing. Written language has been entirely lost, as there is no need for complex communication outside the nuclear family, which rarely leaves each other's line of sight. However, core territories will sometimes be marked by various methods, including roughly copying written warning signs from other nearby human species. Their speech is quite different and more limited due to their different mouth structure, but they understand their spouses perfectly and often strategize hunts beforehand.
