You need to download and install the RPG Maker XP runtime package (RTP), it's mentioned in both the OP's and empatheticapathy's expanded version posts.

Kinda doubt that's the reason - half the folders (7 of 14) are SUPPOSED to be empty. Rather, did you install the RTP?
I'd be more worried about missing files if it was your Data directory that lacked files.

Nevermind I found Muertes. So what happened to the so called big updates? Personally I would have loved to seen more happen with the Land of the Giants myself.

Sorry for the necropost, but is there a guide or something? I'm getting lost trying to play it and have no idea how to progress or if I'm doing it right

It's been a long time since I've played the Original so I may get some stuff confused with what's in my version, but I will try my best.
Step 1: Explore, level up, recruit party members. There are 4 you can get. Your sister, Lizzy. The Sylvan harpy, Amanda. The beastgirl, Aisha. And the angel, Serenity. I can't remember if they're required or not, but definitely recommended.
Step 2: Fight Berserker. He's the large goblin blocking the entrance to Voria. You may have to get permission from General Chaos, but I'm not sure.
Step 3: Find Princess Wendy. Search the city for the hidden Sylvan Princess. She will set you on the next path of your adventure.
Step 4: Defeat the Four Generals. You must seek out and defeat Generals Riot, Muerte, Havoc, and Cedar to acquire their badges.
Step 5: Defeat Genral Chaos. Return to the Sylvan Camp next to your house and take down the eponymous Chaos.
And that's its, the rest is unfinished. Good luck!
