This change was the primary reason for switching to Xonotic altogether; The old VT died in part because the code became way too outdated, and it was hard to back-port every new feature from Xonotic to a fork of Nexuiz so old I had to downgrade the code to make it fit. The Nexuiz implementation also had the vore system messily distributed throughout the base gamecode, whereas using Xonotic mutator hooks I now maintain the vore system as a separate plugin which is so much cleaner and better! Overall the new VT has the huge advantage that it runs on top of the latest Xonotic code, so it automatically gets every feature and bug fix done by the Xonotic team... Xonotic is very actively developed so this is a pretty big deal.
For reference: The old VT (0.7.0) was a standalone fork (total conversion) of Nexuiz, whereas the upcoming VT (2.0.0) is coded in Xonotic mutator hooks and thus compiled as a plugin for it. Nexuiz is the old name of Xonotic, before it got renamed after a dirty deal was struck with former developers to offer the Nexuiz brand to a commercial title. So basically think of Nexuiz as Xonotic until 2009.

Also, I think hosting a public vore tournament serer might be a good idea for the launch of the version.
I might make a comparison to the old VT later. Right now I'm not quite sure what the differences are myself; The new VT is a total remake, based on a heavily rewritten version of the base vore system from the old one. Technically everything has changed... practically the base mechanics work the same way, except there's no more Grabber gun (for now) and you play with Xonotic weapons instead, whereas all maps and assets are new and there are also new VT specific player models. That is mostly it really.
I don't currently have a server optimized for permanently hosting anything. I have considered such as a plan for the future, but that is a more distant idea.
