Cheers!

I'm glad that you like the project, and your thought is very appreciated! Granted no one pulls out at the last moment or has invalid / fraudulent / depleted payment info, both of which has been happening each month... just $50 more might do. The more there is the higher the chances of success, so whichever you think is best. I'm okay with whatever each person can spare... honestly I'm most worried about an angry mob screaming "where is the VT release" if somehow this month misses as well :P This time however I am more hopeful that it won't.

Just to be sure i've accepted the 100$ tier to get this going, this probably won't be permanent but i can guarantee at least 3 months of pledging. Maybe more if i can really reap some tips. So cheers and may this project shine among the vore community

Just noticed. Thank you so very much, you are amazing! *offers hugs*

And I can understand that. I'm not going to ask for more than 3 months if that's what you feel you can / should support, but just a suggestion: If you still like what you see after that, maybe stick to the $50 tier in its place afterward? The truth is me and my mom's survival depend exclusively on this Patreon, so anything that's there is totally a welcome safety. Whatever the case I am still grateful... with the extra $100 we might finally catch up on our rent debts ^^;

That all being said, as long as all (old and new) pledges process which I now suspect they should, the release will no doubt be there next month! I shall soon take a look at the last few tweaks I mentally listed during the last few days, then dive into my plans for hosting the release which was the last piece of the puzzle. Stay tuned everyone :)

Vore Tournament 2.0.0 - Target passes, release this July!

Postby MirceaKitsune » Sat Jul 01, 2017 1:28 pm

Just letting everyone know the target has passed nice and clear. Vore Tournament 2.0.0 happens this month! Thank you again for your support in making this happen... be it financially on Patreon, or in other ways.

I'm still taking the first 1 - 2 weeks to do the final tests and preparations; Unfortunately this was (and still is) made hard by breakages introduced in recent video drivers, which make it impossible to run Xonotic / VT for more than a few minutes before my OS freezes and I have to power off the machine... currently waiting for distro updates to fix this. To top it all, the block administration decided to change our pipes, and my room is all over the place until the worker responsible can finish installing them.

Therefore I'm sorry if it won't be out immediately; The release will most likely be up and officially announced around the middle of the month. Maybe even a bit earlier if everything goes perfectly well, or at worst before the end of the month if any unforeseen circumstances decide to make my life even harder. Whatever the case, July 2017 will be seeing this release :)

Unlike the old one which was standalone, this is a mod; You will have to first install Xonotic from http://xonotic.org/ then download and unpack the Vore Tournament release in it and run xonotic.exe with the -data2dir parameter.

Any particular reason why the change?

Will you make a comprehensive list of new features in 2.0.0?

Also, I think hosting a public vore tournament serer might be a good idea for the launch of the version.

This change was the primary reason for switching to Xonotic altogether; The old VT died in part because the code became way too outdated, and it was hard to back-port every new feature from Xonotic to a fork of Nexuiz so old I had to downgrade the code to make it fit. The Nexuiz implementation also had the vore system messily distributed throughout the base gamecode, whereas using Xonotic mutator hooks I now maintain the vore system as a separate plugin which is so much cleaner and better! Overall the new VT has the huge advantage that it runs on top of the latest Xonotic code, so it automatically gets every feature and bug fix done by the Xonotic team... Xonotic is very actively developed so this is a pretty big deal.

For reference: The old VT (0.7.0) was a standalone fork (total conversion) of Nexuiz, whereas the upcoming VT (2.0.0) is coded in Xonotic mutator hooks and thus compiled as a plugin for it. Nexuiz is the old name of Xonotic, before it got renamed after a dirty deal was struck with former developers to offer the Nexuiz brand to a commercial title. So basically think of Nexuiz as Xonotic until 2009.

I might make a comparison to the old VT later. Right now I'm not quite sure what the differences are myself; The new VT is a total remake, based on a heavily rewritten version of the base vore system from the old one. Technically everything has changed... practically the base mechanics work the same way, except there's no more Grabber gun (for now) and you play with Xonotic weapons instead, whereas all maps and assets are new and there are also new VT specific player models. That is mostly it really.

I don't currently have a server optimized for permanently hosting anything. I have considered such as a plan for the future, but that is a more distant idea.

So yeah I'm going to probably wait for the release now but just out of curiosity I got this problem I had some versions back when compiling the code for your mod, then it was working for a while and now it's back.

Did another './all update' to be safe, and there are no problems here. Please make sure that:

  • The data_voretournament Git repository is up to date.
  • The xonotic-data.pk3dir Git repository is up to date.
  • The gmqcc Git repository is up to date, and gmqcc has been recently built.

An important thing to keep in mind: data_voretournament contains the vore code (mutator plugin) whereas xonotic-data.pk3dir contains all of the Xonotic code (on top of which that's compiled). Occasionally the two may become incompatible, in which case I have to fix the VT code to work with changes in Xon code. Such is not the case right now, but this is why you should always 'git pull' both repositories together and make sure you have the latest version of both.

Ok I tried it all again, didn't work so I'm just gonna reinstall msys if it helps.

As a last minute modification to be included in the release, I decided to make a properly branded loading screen. Based on the Xonotic loading screen but with the classic Vore Tournament logo instead, I think this will do nicely until I make a proper set of loading screens later on (potentially a target for 2.1.0).

Ok and i tried reinstalling msys and then all three types of exe it came with (msys, MinGW-32 and MinGW-64) and always the same error (always with the clean install of xonotic from the git). Everithing goes ok up to the server.txt so i dont know what is causing it. Last thing i can try is installing linux when i got a bit more time, could you give me any recommendation as to what version to use? I just used ubuntu as an backup system in the past and I do not know if it's any good for that sort of thing.

Oh wow: It seems an update to the gmqcc compiler broke it. Apparently they now warn for unused field variables too, and Xonotic is configured to treat all warnings as errors (don't ask me why the team took this weird decision).

Anyway I fixed it Git master; There were some unused stats in the bot code, which thankfully this helped me notice and clean up. Please 'git pull' data_voretournament and try again, should work fine now.

Will one be able to install it over the stable 0.8.2, or will it require the GIT version of Xonotic?

VT release is meant to run on top of the latest Xonotic release, or at worst the Xonotic release that was the latest at the time of that VT release. In this case, it will indeed be ran with Xonotic 0.8.2, as the Xonotic team doesn't seem to have plans for 0.8.3 anytime soon. Only the development version of VT is to be ran and compiled with the Xonotic Git repository.
