Sadly for me, this game is way to loud. Are there options and options to lower the volumes?

God darn it, 600+ typo fixes and I somehow still missed this one  thanks for pointing it out! If I have to release a bugfix update I'll include a fix for this in it.

Yes like The_Prof said, unfortunately the program is very loud by default on Windows. You have to go into the volume mixer and lower it relative to the rest of the computer and it should be better that way.

What a great surprise to see this get an update! I'm fairly certain Nyan Adventures was the first vore game I ever played, and it definitely still sticks out quality wise. A lot of these types of games tend to be enjoyable enough but quickly forgotten once you run out of content, yet even after not touching or particularly thinking about Nyan for years now I honestly still mostly remember the plot and can pretty clearly picture certain scenes. It's not often a fetish game has that kind of staying power!

I'm excited to have the excuse to revisit the game after all this time! :)

Nyuu~ How the time flies... :?

Congratulations on the 10th Anniversary of a legendary game, Halcyon!

This game was my first introduction to the community games side of this site way back (way before I even made an account). I love it dearly now as I did way back then.

It's with some awkwardness amid the congraulations, that I will provide a bit of early feedback/critique—as well as some heads-up/transparency for fellow fans—as to the nature of a few of the revisions made in the anniversary update.
To note: It is both a content update and a content patch with changes to existing scenes. The perceived quality of any change is always subjective. Some will wish to preserve the old. ^^;

0. PREFACE
First and foremost, please consider this as constructive feedback provided in good faith.

If the words that I write come to seem a little harsh, or personal, or vibe killing, know that it comes from a place of caring, not malice.
I care about your works because I like them. Especially this one. Enough to come out of years of lurking to post, anyway.

I hope that you will take my feedback into consideration with an open mind.
I'll attach some fan-art at the end for your trouble. Promise.

TL;DR
A number of content revisions in the anniversary update attempt to sanitize scenes involving underage characters, by aging them up to make them "safe". YMMV
In addition, while there have been previous "content toggle" updates, that appears to not the case this time. It is compulsory, as there is also no longer a previous version to download.
If you are the sort to care about this type of thing, good luck, keep a backup.
See spoilers for elaboration.
TL;DR OVER

1. CHANGES
I'm opting to only focus on revisions that were part of an obvious pattern in the changelog. This is provided as-is, so please draw your own conclusions.
Spoiler: show

Changes:
-> Forced change of vocabulary: "girl" -> "woman/human"; "little" -> "short", etc... Doesn't delineate cleanly. Sometimes illogically forced when the existing word choice was already ambiguous enough.
-> Addition of exposition to explain away unchanged elements of scenes: "My old toys from when I was a child are still here [...]"; "I didn't expect this grown woman to talk to her stuffed animal like it's a person [...]".
-> The overall structure of the scenes themselves is left largely unchanged, minus the intent put towards replacing infantilizing terms or references, with "clearly dictionary adult" counterparts. YMMV

Context:
Scenes involving underage characters (loli) have been featured a fair bit in this game. It is relatively dark insofar as fiction goes, and as a result these scenes leave a particularly strong love/hate impression, but are equally memorable. There has been a long standing "deal with it" attitude as to the decision to include this theme, despite the occasional complaints over the years. This would appear to no longer be the case.

2. OPINION
Spoiler: show

I hold no strong like or dislike for the particular theme of pred/prey dynamic that is being written out this patch, however I do prefer the version of this game that includes it, because I like stories that don't pull punches and have a dark sense of comedy.

I'm not going to make assumptions about why you've decided to sanitize this particular content in this particular way, as I do not know if it is done out of shame, obligation, pressure, troll's remorse, growing too old like the rest of us— whatever... It is what it is; everyone changes; and it's your work. It's a good game with characters that I and many others love dearly, and have loved for a decade now.

I understand feeling cringe or remorse about old works—or angst about what is "acceptable" in fiction—especially these last few years. Hell, I've felt that way about a lot of my own work, so I question, but ultimately respect your choice to replace these aspects of your old works, as frustrating as it may be. It shouldn't come as a surprise: you've previously expressed wanting to revisit old works that aren't "[...] representative of my current style."

It's a bitter pill nonetheless.

That said— I'd be glad to build a content toggle patch if something like the work involved was the ultimate deciding factor. I know my way around the RPGM engines, and I practically know this project as if it were my own at this point.
I also understand if you're set on not entertaining that idea— in which case, so be it. No hard feelings, I'm not your publisher.

Just some food for thought. That's all. ^^;
--

Once again, congratulations on 10 years of Nyan Adventures. I look forward to 10 more.
Thank you for making this game, and thank you for your time.

Fan-art, as promised:

Oh I see what's wrong, there's a pred scene here but you have to play a subsequent prey scene from chapter 4 to unlock it because it's part of a sequence. Hope that's not too much trouble!

Thanks so much for your words of congratulations! I'm sorry you objected to some of the changes in the new version, but I firmly believe that the game is much better for them. For perspective, most of the game was developed in three years, and I've had seven years since the release of 1.0 to carefully think about it and some of the content. My decision to remove the ambiguity of some of the scenes and reshape them into what I now believe is the best version of them in 2024 is not the result of any pressure or criticism. Indeed the biggest critique I ever got was the juxtaposition between Nee's apparent status as a hero and her willingness to commit murder, but that is all still in the game. I don't think the current version is weaker, more reserved, or "pulls punches" more than the 2018 version, my intentions are just more clearly communicated in the imagery, and I think the result is a more tasteful game. It's my honest belief that the game as it current exists is the best that it's ever been, and I hope that you and everyone will come to appreciate the fulfillment of my vision in this sense :)

Is this your artwork? It's very lovely!! Nee looks so cute :3 thanks for sharing!

Hehe thank you old friend :3 I remember fixing quite a few typos/errors in that scene for this release. Chapter 4 was in the sweet spot of where I just started to include a lot more text, but my writing also wasn't as good as it got later on in the game, so that had the most fixes out of any I think.

Halcyon wrote:Thanks so much for your words of congratulations! I'm sorry you objected to some of the changes in the new version, but I firmly believe that the game is much better for them.

Thank you for taking the time to read, respond, and provide some clarity in the matter. I think that will be a bit unfortunate to hear for a number of long time fans of this now altered content.

Halcyon wrote:For perspective, most of the game was developed in three years, and I've had seven years since the release of 1.0 to carefully think about it and some of the content.

Yep, I remember. I think the first version I got was the chapter 3 release. Feels like simpler times.

Halcyon wrote:My decision to remove the ambiguity of some of the scenes and reshape them into what I now believe is the best version of them in 2024 is not the result of any pressure or criticism.

It's reassuring to read that your decision isn't made out of pressure, just the passage of time and perhaps a change in tastes.

I don't think the scenes in question were that ambiguous before. However, they were (imo) pretty clear cut about the one sided nature of the pred/prey power dynamic, due to the type of characters involved (cruelty towards the most innocent and vulnerable). I'm also not sure that a number of the new revisions actually make things less ambiguous. To give an example, if you'll humour me:
Spoiler: show

Excerpt, Princess Lily Raven scene:
Original: "Sitting across the table is an elegant young girl with curled blonde hair. [...]" (some ambiguity but the adjective 'young' provides context to assume the 'girl' is a child)
New: "Sitting across the table is an elegant woman with curled blonde hair. [...]" (more ambiguous, due to the removal of the adjective 'young', she could be 18 or 50; the absence of 'young' has its own implication here)
Alternative: "Sitting across the table is an elegant young woman with curled blonde hair. [...]" (less ambiguous because 'young' provides the context that she appears young, and 'woman' implies maturity, so 18-28)

Granted, it's a one sentence example from one scene, but I'm sure you see what I mean. I won't start dissecting every line of every scene, that'd just be cruel and unusual punishment for everyone involved.

I know, I'm nit-picking over the subjective merit of adjectives (or lack thereof) in a vore game on the internet. Forgive me, it's just to make a point. ^^;

Halcyon wrote:Indeed the biggest critique I ever got was the juxtaposition between Nee's apparent status as a hero and her willingness to commit murder, but that is all still in the game.

Yep, that hasn't changed. It remains a big part of why I love her as a character. :gulp:
Spoiler: show
The revelation that Tock is responsible for keeping Trevani's horror hunger and nature from compromising her standing as a Hero with the people, and giving an in-universe explanation for the soft resets on "game over" was probably my favourite twist. So much so, that one of the mechanics I ended up implementing in my own copy was to expand on this as a foundation to the pred mechanic. It also let Nee eat just about any character (and combination of characters), only restoring the world when she goes to sleep at an inn.

Halcyon wrote:I don't think the current version is weaker, more reserved, or "pulls punches" more than the 2018 version, my intentions are just more clearly communicated in the imagery, and I think the result is a more tasteful game.

I will most likely eventually come to agree that the additions elsewhere outweigh any disappointments I may have about the other stuff. I don't doubt that these changes will be more appealing to a broader audience, but I'm also not sure how I feel about that yet, personally. The main point of my last post was to provide some transparency for others, because it is genuinely just one of those divisive issues that people either love or hate, and I do feel some degree of sympathy. No hard feelings, I hope. As mentioned, I care about your works because I like them a lot. That probably will not change for the longest time.

For me it's not really an issue— If I really want to change something, I can just do that; I've been fixing typos, tweaking sprites, adjusting mechanics, and adding new scenes to this project on my own copy for about 6 years now.
I don't share them mind you, that would be rude without your consent.

Halcyon wrote:Is this your artwork? It's very lovely!! Nee looks so cute :3 thanks for sharing!

Yep! I've got a couple more but they're a bit unfinished and have been lingering in the backlog for a while now.
You're more than welcome to add the bunny-girl piece to the post-game gallery if you feel like it, though. I think it turned out nice.
