Blue's Quest: A Journey to Knighthood (Demo 0.03)

Postby TheHungryELf » Mon May 22, 2017 10:26 am

NOTE: All characters are legal adults in game, no need to worry about them looking like children. And if you're wondering, yes, the legal age of adulthood is 15, but then again in this world each year lasts 500 days, so there is a reason for that.

I have been wanting to make my own little thing for a while on this site, be it some sort of RP world, story series, or really anything to get my ideas out on this site. And then, inspiration hit, and I began creating a game. In a short span of like... 4 days, I have created the basis for what will become...

Blue's Quest: The Journey to Knighthood

Yeah, I know, name's not the best, but hey, it works.

Just a quick warning, this game will contain M/M vore and sexual content, as... it's sort of a Yaoi game as well as a vore game. Yeah, I wanted to go there, and I am. However, the game's not all about just plain old sex and vore, there is more to the game than just trying to unlock all the vore and sex scenes, there's actual entertainment outside of that. A comedic story-line, likeable characters, creative worlds and a hero who finally does not have the personality of a cinder block, a child, or my annoying sister. Or any combination of those 3.

Story
Spoiler: show
The game is set on an alien planet called Paradenchia, set in an urban fantasy world. (meaning there are video games and technology, but also magic, swords, and adventure, similar to the cartoon show Adventure Time) In the kingdom of Amora, the number of attacks from monster boys, which are called monsteroids in game, (Monsteroid is a combination of our English word for monster and the elvish word maoid, meaning "human-like" or "man kind".) usually ending up in common townspeople, like humans and elves, getting eaten alive. Prince Maro of the Novi Kingdom, the capital of Amora, has been fighting to lower these attacks on innocent people, creating training programs, starting guilds, and hiring as many capable people into his royal guard as he can.

You play as Bluestar Talron, or just Blue for short. Blue has been training long and hard to join the royal guard. Finally, after countless hours of training with your best friend, Sariel, the time has come, and you talk to Prince Maro in hopes to get hired, and are sent on the path to employment as an adventurer to get a Class D Adventurer's License, which is legal documentation and I.D. that allows the owner to get into dangerous areas labeled as Class D Danger Zones. However, on your quest, you run into trouble. Vash the Destroyer, ruler of the dark lands, the most feared warlord in all of Paradenchia, personal enemy of the Amoran kingdoms, and professional ice cream maker. After a tangle with the dark elf's personal servant, Azazel the Incubus, you barely escape back to Prince Maro, and together you piece together the facts.

Something big is going on.

Characters
Spoiler: show
Bluestar Talron
Role: Main Character
Type: Versatile Switch
Species: Elf
Breed: Tropical Wood Elf (50% Caucasian, 50% Asian / 50% Retard, 50% Sexier Than U)

Blue is pretty much the exact opposite of most protagonists in vore RPGs I have played so far. For one, he has a developed personality. He's a fun lover. Silly and quick to act, he never takes things too seriously, it's all just one big bowl of entertainment to him. Although he does have a hero's spirit, and a heart of gold to match. He'll always be eager to help the needy and stain his blade with the blood of evil. Despite this, he has a tenancy to screw up, and can feel shy and nervous when faced with certain situations that look too big for him to handle. But all he wants in life is to be happy. He enjoys hanging out with friends, playing games on his HyperSoft Gaming System (HGS for short), and of course, going on adventures. He's also a bit of a nerd for said video games, comic books, and computers. Luckily for him, this is Paradenchia, and often the cool people are nerds as well, which serves in his favor. Also, if this gets big, he'll probably be one of the few elvish swordsmen in fantasy media.

Sariel Gamon
Role: Blue's BFF
Type: Versatile Switch
Species: Angel
Breed: Youngling (Angels are assigned proper classes when they reach 1000 years of age in my world)

Despite also being a fun loving type, Sariel is more level headed than his best bud. He takes orders more seriously, has less of a tendency to be an idiot and mess up, and understands people easier. Sariel is probably the most loyal friend Blue will ever have, and would gladly die at his side in battle if it came to that. Sariel is a battle-healer, basically a healer who actually has some some fighting power behind them, so Sariel's not just a heal slut like some would treat him as. Sariel is asexual, but biromantic, so while he won't be getting in bed unless you convince him, Sariel will still date and have meaningful relationships with other guys, he's just a bit uncomfortable with sexual situations. Don't tell anyone, but secretly, he really enjoys the taste of elves. While they start out weak, the oldest angels are some of the most powerful homonid species alive, rendering them at the top of the food chain, so it is not unheard of for an angel to want to eat someone, despite it being perfectly safe. Angels feed off of the energy of the sun, and do not need to eat food, they only do it for enjoyment, and thus their digestive systems are... not digestive at all, rendering their stomachs basically safe holding chambers. While Sariel would never want to leave his best friend's side, he has dreams of becoming a professional healer and a doctor, as well as forming his own rock/chiptune band. He's a big dreamer. But even if his dreams go unfulfilled, he's still perfectly satisfied with his life right now. He just... longs to taste his friend again. Why do elves taste so good?

Prince Maro
Role: Prince of the Amora Kingdom
Type: Versatile Bottom
Species: Human
Breed: Cassian (Basically, your everyday human)

A word that could describe the prince? Saint. Prince Maro has a heard purer than gold, and his ultimate goal in life is to improve the lives of every living being, human or not. While he does have his hobbies, such as video games, his main focus is making sure his people are in total bliss. From allowing New Japanese imports, to cutting taxes, to housing the homeless, to even funding projects from companies like HyperSoft that would improve the lives of millions, he lives to serve the people. But that's not all there is to him. Prince Maro is no pushover, and is a capable fighter when his skills are needed. He also knows a bit of magic, mainly healing and buff spells along with a few attacks, and can take on someone twice his size. Despite this, he's a constant victim to Vash the Destoryer. The reason? Kidnapping, it happens almost every month, it seems. And some poor hero has to go out and save him every damn time. It's annoying, but at least he helps when he's around.

Dax
Role: Leader of the Dynamite Heroes
Type: Dominant Switch
Species: Elf
Breed: Tropical Wood Elf

Handpicked by Prince Maro to lead the guild he formed 2 years ago, Dax is a smug type. Hard to please and quick to discourage others, when he's bored it's best to ask someone else for help. He's a thrill-seeker, always wanting the best talent that he could possibly get, which is why he's so hard on Blue for wanting to become a Dynamite Hero himself. But... there's another side to him, he just wants to be entertained. In truth, he actually does enjoy interaction with sentient beings, he just rarely shows if. He's not one to show love, but if he does end up loving you... you better be ready to keep a commitment, because when he grabs ahold, he never lets go. Oh, and he loves video games, even more than Blue does.

Finn
Role: Member of the Dynamite Heroes
Type: Submissive Switch
Species: Human
Breed: Cassian

There are legendary heroes, some that will have their names remembered forever. And then there are some so great their greatness spreads across multiple dimensions and creates alternate versions of one hero's self. This is one example of that. Finn is the prime example of a great hero. Always eager to help and jump into quests, creative in his methods, and pretty dang strong when it comes down to it. However, when running into risky situations, like say... traversing through a field where orcs roam, he tends to ask other people to help him if possible, giving them quests. This is mainly an outlet to find new friends, which he hardly had growing up. He's the youngest member of the Dynamite Heroes at only age 16, yet he shows the most promise. He has the strength of an elf and the willpower of an angel, and if required by his friends, he'll never step down from any challenge.

Vash the Destroyer
Role: Main Villain of the Game
Type: Dominant Top
Species: Elf
Breed: Dark Elf/Drow

Behold! The great Vash the Destoryer! Feel my wra... what wait? What do you mean Sonic's Pizza is closed during the morning?!? I'm hungry now and I want my pizza! And if I don't get it I'll have to eat something else, and it won't be food! Wuhahahaha!

And that's Vash! The evil ruler of the Dark Lands, a warlord who rules with an iron fist... with a smiley face painted on it. Vash's goal is to dominate the whole world and control everything he possibly can, due to dark elves really never having a good time until he came around 1000 years back and formed the Metal Clan, hell bent on world domination because no one gave them a world of their own before. Vash will stop at nothing to achieve his goal, and will kill/eat anyone who stands in his way... while having fun with them, first! Vash is one of those villains that you fear... but also laugh at their comedic antics at the same time. He's similar to Dr. Eggman from Sonic and Dr. Nefarious from Ratchet and Clank in that regard. With an army of dark elves 50,000 members strong, Vash will keep going with his plans until old age takes him from this world... if he allows that to happen.

Azazel
Role: Self-Hating Asistant to Vash
Type: Dominant Switch
Species: Demon
Breed: Incubus

Azazel is one of those types who are royal to their master 95% of the time... but they hate every second of it. Azazel hates Vash's guts, his insane stupidity sometimes, his plans, his thoughts, almost everything about him, yet he somehow tolerates him enough to work with his master, although he commonly nips at him whenever possible. Vash found Azazel in the dark elf's experiments to open up the Underworld, this world's Hell, on the surface, and has been with the insane warlord ever since. While he is a capable fighter, he personally hates fighting, and will always try to back out of fights as much as possible, leading to some hits from Vash in order to get the stubborn demon to do as told. Despite this, he does enjoy things, such as food. He's a big eater whenever the opportunity presents itself, and this is not just for food either. If he defeats an opponent in battle, he won't be striking them down with his demonic magic, oh no, he'll let his stomach deal the finishing blow to his enemy. And... since he's an incubus, he still has suppressed sexual needs, and when these are strong, he usually consumes prey through the back end, sucking them through his intestines into his empty stomach. Despite this, he is one of the most gentlemanly demons you'll ever meet. He always plays fair, and when his master is not around, he's actually quite considerate to those who have won his favor. He's also a bit of a romanticist, and longs to find the perfect guy to claim as his, even if he has to hide his claimed lover inside him from Vash.

(NOTE: The following characters have not been implemented into the game yet. They will appear later.)

Star Man
Role: The Unidentified Abomination From Space
Type: Versatile Switch
Species: ???
Breed: ???

No one knows much about the mysterious Star Man. Some say he's a member of an ancient race long lost to the sands of time. Some say he's an eldritch abomination set loose onto the universe to slowly consume it once he gains enough power, and others say he's an experiment of dark science, crafted to become the perfect weapon of ultimate destruction, a man who cannot be killed. He first appears on Paradenchia in a crashed ship, and he encounters and battles Blue after the elf was sent to investigate. No one truly knows why Star Man is here, but he appears to have no hostile intent... yet. He appears to take the shape of a young human male, and his flesh is apparently made out of a thick slime imitating actual human flesh. No one knows if he actually has any internal organs or bones, but he is known to have special appendages, tentacles. Slimy neon green tentacles hidden in a chamber on his back. They are dexterous in grabbing and manipulating objects, but they appear to have a more... sinister purpose. Star Man struggles with his grasp on morality, but with proper teaching, it may be possible to teach him right from wrong. It should also be noted he can control his body at will, changing shape and form with ease. Not a person you want to end up at the wrong side of.

Jax and Mack
Role: Android Henchmen
Type: Both are Versatile Switches
Species: Robot
Breed: Hu-Emu 1.0: Early human replication android

Everyone needs some comic relief henchmen, right? Jax and Mack fit that bill well! Working for Vash ever since the dark elf acquired an old android factory, they do what ever their master says and are loyal to the most degree, even though they may complain and argue with each other at various times. Jax is the strong one, most capable in fights, and Mack is the smarter one, who might not be the brightest bulb, but he can form some intelligent plans. They are armed with high grade Plasma Canons, arm based weaponry that packs a powerful punch and can transform into a rearguard arm when not in use, and can just as easily transform back into a deadly weapon. They are quite a comedic team, imagine... Scratch and Grounder from the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, that kind. They are part of a line of androids designed to replicate the most basic homonid life, humans. However they're not perfect. Their A.I. is not as capable as human brains, and they don't even have human voices. Text-to-Speech engines take this place, with Jax utilizing Microsoft Sam while Mack uses Microsoft Mike. Despite their flaws, they aim to help their master achieve his goals, but mainly because they're programmed to, and they're self aware of this.

Scripts I'm using:

Nova Battle Display by Ventwing
Diagonal Movement by Karin's Soulkeeper
Enemy HP Bars by Ventwing
Galv's Random Loot by Galv (obviously)
CP Dungeon Generator by Neonblack
Venka's Bestiary v1.8 by You Know Who
Yo' Mama by Dr. PINGAS (This is a joke, not an actual script. The fact that I am saying this is a joke... also is a joke, and the reason why it failed so bad. Feel free to throw produce at me, I'm hungry.)
KilloZapit Word Wrapper by a Crappy Joke
Bestiary Books Addon by Venka
Bestairy Actor's Input Addon also by Venka
Ace Menu Engine by Doogy
Quest Journal by Modern Algebra

These give the features of (and a few other features that are not added by scripts, but by my own design...

A battle view where you can actually see your enemy's health to a degree.
Diagonal movement.
Certain chests having random loot.
Randomly generated dungeons.
Pingas jokes.
The ability to record monster and keep that info in a log book.
A quest system to track your progress.
The inability to save from the menu, you must find "Checkpoint Crystals" in order to save your progress, but some of these give the boon of fully restoring your HP without the use of inns!
An upbeat and varied soundtrack of chiptune music from various games, and even some original tracks! (Not composed by me of course, I'm a writer and designer, not a musician, sadly.)
A cast of creative and unique characters.
A fantasy world that's finally not all dark and gloomy, but bright and happy, despite what's going on.
A vore game that's... well, actually a game!

Features I wish to add
.gbs and .vgm playback, to shrink the size of the game considerably. (My ripped audio recordings are PHAT)
The ability to woo and date some of the characters I mentioned above, along with an affection system that can be access from the menu.
An Extra Life system, because fatal digestion won't be the end in this game. If you're not into that... you can just simple turn extra lives off through...
An options menu, accessible from the main menu. You can control certain aspects, like if you want beasts and non-humanlike monsters to be able to eat you, if you want other vore types, such as anal vore and cock vore, if you want sex scenes, and other aspects. You can also select how many Extra Life Gems you want Prince Maro to give you to get you started on your first quest, from 1 to 4, if you don't want them at all, and the ability to turn on SFW mode, which basically disables all the sexual content and homosexual dating, so you can show this game to your parents if you want, since it's an actual game and not blatant porn.
Animated enemies, which attack, react to getting hit, and can taunt.

Changelog
Spoiler: show
Proof of Concept Demo 0.01

First Version Released! Whoo hoo!

Proof of Concept Demo 0.02

Provided a much needed difficulty balance. Sorry for all those who suffered!
Added the quest "Sariel Needs to Go Home".
Added Giant Grass Naga enemy.
Added Northern Orc enemy.
Added various new moves, including: Screw Attack, Dirty Punch, Spin Attack, Double Attack, Energy Charge, Leg Sweep.
Added an early version of Flower Fields, complete with new music, branching paths, and loot!
Fixed a few glitches with Prince Maro. Now they're intentional!
Fixed guarding actually doing doing nothing because it's skill was removed. Oops.
Added a new damage sound from a certain game I won't mention here. It was chosen to make damage more ambiguous sounding, so it won't sound like you're hitting a being made of flesh when fighting a robot or something.
Minor text fixes.

Proof on Concept Demo 0.03

Actually gave the Northern Orc stats that were not the default. Oops.
Added the new Moves to Blue's level up list. Oops again.
Added the "Ring Race" Quest! The rings and springs might be placeholders, but hey, it works!
Made the quest "Wallet Inspection" actually completeable.
Added the first Power Dungeon, with a story based reward at the end.
Added White Harpy enemy, although the placeholder graphic is... more of a demonic chicken than an actual bird man.
Added Dusty Harpy boss. Again, demonic chicken placeholder.
Added Blue Slime enemy.
Added various new items.
Corrected the Somewhat Stronger Potion to actually heal 75 HP like I said it did. 80? How did I make that mistake?
Moar minor text fixes.
In the scene where you first fight Azazel, it's still possible to encounter enemies. I have now disabled this, sorry to any who have died unfairly after the fight.
Rewrote the scene where Prince Maro hands you your first licence, as... well, it was kinda rushed, to be honest.
Changed the battle theme to something less like fighting a dangerous killer deep within the unknown to something more like encountering an enemy in a light hearted platformer. (Please don't hate me for my choice.)
Added Item Potion
Added Item Energy Juice
Added Item Bottle of Elvish Wine
Gave state Stun an actual icon
Added a new battle theme for the Power Dungeons. Yes, it's from the same game, don't question my choices.
Added state Drunkenness, which is tied into the Bottle of Elvish Wine.
Added Item Power Gem of Quick Feet
Added Item Power Gem of the World's Favor
Added a few new weapons and armor!
Added the Quest "Juice and Jam"... sorta. Only one Green Slime Jelly is needed to complete the quest, although completing it takes away 5 of them. The reason? I can't figure out how to make RPG Maker check for 5 items at one time instead of just one. Maybe it's because I'm stupid?
Added a new cutscene that plays after completing 5 quests.
Added the enemy restricted attack Deep Scratch.
Added the state Bleeding.
Fixed Spin Attack targeting a single target 3 times.
Fixed the Sonic sprite.

Current glitches, bugs, oversights, and unadded features

The Bottle of Elvish wine has a few unused lines of dialogue when under the "drunk" state, a few of them being references to TF2. However, I can't get them to randomly play during battle for some reason...
Certain walls of the first Power Dungeon look weird. I do not know how to fix this.
The quest "Juice and Jam" only requires you to harvest a single slime jelly, due to my simplistic eventing.
It might be possible to escape boss battles via the Monsteriod Repellent, so... don't use that during bosses, ok?

Oh, and if you wanna help in any way, please do, this is turning out to be an ambitious project. I can never leave anything small, can I?

I am happy to announce the proof of concept demo! Get it at the link below!

http://www.mediafire.com/file/17834dknujc6mk5/Blue%27s_Quest.exe

Bare in mind that I made this in just 5 days. Things are patchy here and there, Novi Kingdom Town is only half finished, it's not all detailed a pretty, a lot of spites and characters use placeholders, namely Vash, and there might be bugs and glitches here and there.

Requires the RTP, get it here: http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/download/additional/run-time-packages

Getting a bit farther into the project, just finished a couple quests, like one where Finn looses his wallet to a harpy and where Sariel wants a barricade removed so he can go home, and I am wondering... would you guys like to see other people's characters possibly in the game?

A small suggestion: if it hasn't already been done, please tone down the enemies in the very beginning of the game. The file is clocked at 6 minutes, but I've easily spent twice that restarting, because any fight beyond one-on-one is a guaranteed loss, and trying to escape has not worked at all.

Edit: Leveled up after another four or five hard restarts, and now 3v1 is doable. The above is still an issue, though, because I did have to consider whether or not it was worth all the restarting.

Yeah, that's an issue with RPG Maker not really working well with low stat enemies and such. I wanted to start Blue off with 50 HP and make it able to work, but NO! Silly system... oh well. Sorry about that. I need to ballance things out.

Oh, and if you run into anything like that... abuse the checkpoint crystals. They're there for a reason, to assist players when they need it.

EDIT: Also, began work on Flower Fields today. I ended up using Green Hill Zone Act 1 from Sonic Generations as the music, it's just so happy and bouncy and fits the tone perfectly. But, if you don't like that, a replacement will be accepted if you find it for me, ha ha!

EDIT 2: Finally balanced out things. Thanks, Draupnir7! As a bonus, the demo now has a new damage sound, and Flower Fields is in the early stages!

EDIT 3: Goodness! I thought more people would have posted by now! Ehh, guess not. Anyway, I might be having some... slight trouble with creating a certain quest I'm calling "The Ring Race". It's sorta what it sounds like, you have to collect 100 rings in 2 minutes or else you fail and the quest starts all over again. However, I can't seem to get the eventing to work! The quest giver has like... 5 pages, each with their own dialogue and such, two of which are just alterations of "you want to try the quest?" depending on if you fail or if you say no but come back later to ask about the quest again, each one using switches to link to each other before linking off to the main page, which controls the quest. I am using a timer event to display the remaining time at the top of the screen, and I am using conditional branches in order to check if all the time has ran out, or if all 100 rings have been collected. Only... nothing happens when the time runs out or when all 100 rings are collected. Is there something I am doing wrong, or is this just a glitch in RPG Maker VX Ace? If someone is willing to assist me, I will give them a copy of my current progress to allow them to test and edit the quest. And plus, if you help, your username will appear in the Bug Test/Assistance section of the end credits, along with maybe another bonus if I decide to give you it, because I'm a nice guy.

I've enjoyed what I've played so far. The dialogue is fun and engaging. I wouldn't worry too much about balancing combat right away, but probably better to err on the side of 'too easy' when you're trying to get people interested.

I look forward to more :)

OK. Calm down with your lore. Clicking on the characters section should not give me an impassible fortress of text.

Good job on your game! I know what its like making RPG maker VX Ace, so don't fret on asking me tips if you need any! I know that there are scripts that affect the size of sprites, but I for got what it was...
But if you want some critiques here are a few~
-Block off the entrance to the enemy field until after the main character gets the quest
-Cool it down with the slimes in terms of damage and chance to escape, these monsters shouldn't be that hard! However, I realized that once you hi level 2, your special skill gets pretty OP too. Maybe try to find a balance~
-I'm using Clip Studio Art to edit my sprites, but a free sprite editor I've used is GIMP. You can probably use that to clean the sonic sprite you have at the beginning, so that there is no white border around him.

Also I noticed that when I entered the cave and left, the bgm from the cave stayed throughout the whole game. In the map editer where you chose your tileset for the map, you can make it so that the bgm will only play for the certain map you chose.

-I'm using Clip Studio Art to edit my sprites, but a free sprite editor I've used is GIMP. You can probably use that to clean the sonic sprite you have at the beginning, so that there is no white border around him.

Yeah, balancing is going to be pretty hard from what I have seen so far, mainly because RPG Maker's default characters have quite high stats. I think one of the default characters had over... 1000 HP or something? I intended for the original version to start Blue off with just 50 HP and lower stats, but RPG Maker did not want that to work. and made it impossibly hard. But I kinda want to make leveling up feel like you're actually gaining something and making the game easier, which I feel is what having impressively high stats at the beginning would do.

Thanks for the tip! I will take this into consideration in the next update, which will contain new quests, and the first Power Dungeon.

But as a reminder, I have limited online time, so most of the time I am unable to get stuff off the internet.

I am surprised no one complained about the Azazel fight! Apparently it's more obvious to use the Power Gem on him than expected!

EDIT:
NomNommyy wrote:Also I noticed that when I entered the cave and left, the bgm from the cave stayed throughout the whole game. In the map editer where you chose your tileset for the map, you can make it so that the bgm will only play for the certain map you chose.

And that would be an oversight on my part, sorry! See how much you guys are helping?

Now I just gotta fix the events related to the Ring Race quest, and all should be nice and dandy!

No problem! I know how hard it is to jump into making a m/m rpg game and I'm glad to help :)! Feel free to use any vore related tilesets and rpg monster sprites on my account as well! I actually have a naga and slime monster pics on my account that are more yaoi based if your interested! I'm really on/off with making my games, but if you want help with anything just let me know!

Also I know that there is a script that lets you give your game patch updates, which allows the player to keep all that he saved in the game as well!

I think I made it to the end where the main character reports back to the prince about the mission, but anywhooo! Don't be stranger :)!

Oh really? Well thanks! I might end up using them if they fit. But yeah! I might end up using that script, and I probably will balance things and apply fixes, and learn how to get that stupid Ring Race quest working. Thanks, expect an update soon! Oh, and if you want a sneak peek, you can access an early version of Flower Fields from the area you find the cave entrance. Although it only exists in version 0.02.

I'll let you have a tour of my game as well! As soon as everything starts to piece together. I'm using RPG maker MV and you might see a bit of a difference.

Hello again! I am just about to release a new update to the game, but in order to do that. Er...
Could you help me fix an annoying bug, one that is sorta halting progress for me right now? It involves one of the quests, heh heh.

Gosh I feel like a moron asking this.
