Gulp Quest MV Version 0.02 out! (28/09/2020)

Postby Dragonitas » Wed Aug 19, 2020 4:52 am

Greetings everyone who is interested in this game.
My name is Dragonitas and I'm a pretty big fan of Sarus' little game: Gulp Quest, I am mainly a writer, or at least I like thinking that I am one, but I also have some experience when it comes to making RPG Maker games.

As many of you probably know already, Gulp Quest is a game that has existed for quite some time already but in my opinion still holds up pretty well even for today's vore game standards which are much more ambitious. Following the unfortunate fate of the 2018 attempt of reviving the game due to (to my knowledge) mainly Zararchest medical condition, and after having been given green light by Sarus, I will be trying my hand at finishing the story they wanted to tell, because I'm a big fan of this game and I feel like it has to be finished even if I cannot match the expectations that have been built over the years.

The time has come for me to start putting the updated versions of Sarus' game out, they will be found below this message and I will try to keep a list of all existing versions.
This first one adds barely anything new to the game, and is mainly a remake of the Men's Village using MV assets with the original scenes for Kate, Christelle, and the Slime Girl. The Wilderness area just outside the town is still under development and will be for a few days as I balance out the monster girls you will encounter in it to the new combat system which will be much more streamlined than the prevous level up system that used to work as a soft lock of sorts to keep you from advancing too fast towards the Maid Cafe.
Current UNFINISHED version as explained above (0.02): https://mega.nz/file/UxMVEKID#sfZyQA2iW4p5kNcqjx2aLoo1i6Y7VQ7oLR0BW4xNEvo

Last poll clearly showed me that the main interest for most people is in the characters, I have begun to weave a story for the known ones thus far thanks to your feedback. To aid me further as I develop the future of the game, I will add new polls as new versions get released, I encourage you all to answer these to let me know how best to please you going forward! :-D This specific poll has a bunch of options so you can vote up to 3 of them, however only vote those you feel like you are genuinely interested in, I prefer if you vote just for one option you like a lot than you voting for three even if you are really only interested in the first one you picked.

Changelog:
Spoiler: show
- 0.02: Fixed some bugs since the previous release
- 0.01: Messy first glance at the remake

Plans for the next version:
Spoiler: show
- Add finished combat encounter (Orc, Bee, Naga) in addition to one or two new monster girls.
- Add Molly's house to the east of the village like in Sarus' 1.09 version of the game.
- Add the Crossroads section which will tie to the Maid Cafe, Christelle's house, and other future areas.

Have a nice day everyone!

Don't forget to have fun in making the game. I hope you can keep the flavor of the old game intact.

So far the votes on the poll are very biased towards the characters (as of right now 53 votes/69% -nice- on characters compared to 8 on the other most voted options) So my N°1 priority will be to work on interesting characters for the scenes that will be added. I'll take any suggestions you may have in mind, but there's no guarantee to have your exact idea added to the game.

Voted 'other' - what I like most about the game is that every female character (not that there's many so far) has a vore scene, and they all willing variants.
The world is intriguing too - the way the women just assume you want them to eat you (when it's clear most men don't want that) is seriously compelling.
My game (or more accurately, IceNinjas game, which I have taken over):

It's the style of the vore scenes that made the game so enjoyable. Everything else about the game is of a good quality (the map is particularly cute and compressed) but the V scenes made the game. The girls never doubt for a moment that they're doing a great favor to the people they devour. The convincing, tantalizing, and bullying of the girls to draw the player into being eaten is something special that isn't well replicated outside of the game. I think your focus should be close to reproducing this theme across new situations. I've got high hopes and expectations for your revival project. Good luck!

Are you aware that there are VX Ace to MV conversion tools available online? You can convert much of the content automatically, such as events and common events. You can find that converter here (https://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.ph ... ter.45296/). Hopefully that saves you some time.

What Appo says...that and the cute anime characters of course. Many recent vore games have 3d images which, while having their own charm, is just not the same as classic anime characters

Appo, Thanks for the tool! And yes, I agree that is my favourite part of the game as well, the casual aspect of such a serious and impactful event such as eating you.

I wouldn't dare change that at all, except perhaps for the sake of flavor so not every encounter feels the same. But that's exactly why I'm working on a script first and foremost, so I can focus on capturing the charming essence of the first game into this one.

kuman2011, I too will only be using 2D anime style images for the girls, but there's a rather big issue with that and that's the availability of said images. Talking with Sarus they told me that they found the images online in a stock image website for fetishes or something along those lines, back then there were a few of those apparently but nowdays they're harder to come across, not only that but I'd like to keep the images somewhat similar in style to the ones the game already has which reduces the amount of pics I can use in scenes. If you or anyone else reading this comment knew of someone I could commission to recreate similar images to the ones in the game that'd be great because I could take story commissions myself to pay for the images and that wouldn't limit the scenarios I could use.

One of the things Zarachrest worked quite heavily on was the maid cafe and although we no longer have the files for the game we can help with that if you need us to

I am really happy to hear that this game is coming back! I am posting here just to say thank you and give my support, since this was one of the best vore games projects i have ever played. I have to wish you good luck though, since games can be really hard to make, but at least you need to know that surely there will be a community supporting you, and you can rely in us if you need any support! :gulp:

JDandAliProductions, I'd love to chat in a more private part like discord to talk about your work. I am very sorry for what happened to Zarachrest and would like to at least salvage some of the work put into what you wanted to do. If you want to add me (or anyone who has suggestions for the game, or wants to help in any way, shape, or formis) my Discord tag is: Drakkions#1433

One of the thing that I loved the most aside from the art's and character's leading to the vore was the fact that with each choices you could let the story unfold under your preference naturally. Did you want to scream for help while the predator taunt you? You could. Did you want to be pleasantly digested while the predator said kind thing's to you or compliments? you could! It never felt like you broke the original scenario to get this result. It also gave a lot of the social(non-combat) encounter a lot of replay values. For it to truly be a remake, sequel or spiritual successor, it would need to contain these as they were pretty much for me what made it so unique.

The least interested parts was the regular combat encounter as they were pretty much standard rpg maker vore stuff with game over leading to vore scene with no possible interaction's.

Celte, Of course! That was a big deal in the original, most scene encounters will have all 3 options available (Unwilling, Willing, Noncaring) but that's a lot of work, part of the reason I'm working on the script before the maps and events.

daeway, Well the style of the sprites will be different if only because MV has a different set of tiles to work with.

There aren't many planned changes to the gameplay, it will be as it has been till now for the most part: Main plot develops in the important areas, paths between important areas contain random encounters that flavor the world, there will be side areas with their own scenes.

BUT, I will be most likely removing the Level UP system and instead all your stats will come from items. This will make designing monster stats easier and grinding for stats yourself impossible (That way you can't just go around one-shoting the monster girls yet feel powerless against like a goblin if one gets a scene)

Also, as a bit of a teaser, you will gain a class early into the game which will give you different skills as the story progresses and slightly different interactions depending on the one you choose. There will also be party members, as you further progress into the game.

Other than that... I'll change some of the dialog maybe, and the artstyle may unfortunately have to change if I can't find an artist able to recreate similar igames nor a website where I can find stock images of similar appearance. That'd be all I think!
