Galactic Hunger v0.1b- Stellaris Mod

Postby Lizia » Wed Feb 07, 2024 10:31 pm

Hello, some of you may know of Apex Xenos.
This mod is partly a successor to that mod of sorts. While it is building off what it did, I do intend to make it its own thing.

Before you go and use this do know:
- I am not a expert or really that good at this stuff and modding paradox games brings me suffering. I just have a minor in computer science and really had the drive to do this.
- This mod is not in many ways complete as of yet, it may be buggy, messy, or simply fail at times. If this occurs, do tell me and I can see if I can fix things.
- I have a life and updates may be common or uncommon.
- I am really only good at programming, so for a while there will be limited icons/art, sounds, or text for things. I will try to solve these, but don't expect to see them fixed soon.

If you are still interested you can find the mod on Github:
https://github.com/TheLizia/Hungry_Void_Mod
I am not familiar with Github or making these Forum posts so do excuse my messiness.

What does this mod contain?
Spoiler: show

-Oral Vore.
-Implied Endo.
-Bellies
-Civics based on Vore
-Events based on Vore
-Some sounds
and so on.

Things planned for later:
Spoiler: show

-Adding event diversity for other vore types in the events.
-Adding Civics, Origins, and Policies to change how vore empires act.
-Adding a vore civics for robot and hivemind empires.

Versions/Changlog:
Spoiler: show

Version 0.1b: The version that actually works fully.
-Removed the modded government types due to a annoying error that made government types not make random names. Will implement them later once I solve this.
-Fixed a publishing error where in my anger I shot the civcs as well.

I plan to add more stuff as I go, but for now it is a decent bit of stuff. Though out of them all, Lethal Vore has the most content at this time.

If you wish to also add portaits to the mod, Katar has Hungry Voids:
viewtopic.php?f=79&t=66285

Also thanks to:
Ouroborus: For making the original mod.
InternIsla: For updating the original mod.
Flame_Valaxsarion: For making the latest version of the mod.

Exciting! You seem to have already put a lot into it, I can't wait to see what else you have envisioned for it!

Edit: i'e never been one to mod, and don't have the skills etc for it yet, but I hear paradox bringing modders undue pain is a common thing, I hope you beat it!

Noice, good job so far. Also, any chance of an option to disable farting sounds?

One suggestion I'd have is a civic for corporations to specialize in the trade of food slaves.

Those sounds and really any sound other than the swallow and digest one will be removed in the next version. At least until better sound effects can be made at some point. For now you will be forced to deal with them sadly.

Also an interesting idea, I am focusing my coding efforts to get the main civics handled and fleshed out before moving to Corp, Hive, and Machine. So those civics may take a bit before they appear.

If you're still using my code you should be able to quickly switch the sound effects to a different one. I set up a bunch of sound types but never got around to making a switch for them.

Yea, I am overall using your original code for this. It is a good base.
Though the sound balancing for them is a big meh, and if I do want sound, I would want stuff made for it.

Wonder how well it could be implemented to have predator empires use primitive worlds as hunting grounds. Perhaps getting some consumer goods or energy credits as citizens pay good money for permission to go onto a planet and try to capture some of the inhabitants for food.

Some more options would be psionic races being able to devour souls as well or sacrificing half of a ground army to instantly level the rest up via having them all partner up for a sparring fight where the winner eats the loser.

There is so much potential with a vorish universe, different kinds of pred or prey personalities, vore types and dozens of edicts, policies and decisions that could be made. Unfortunately that would also increase the workload for you but so far it's looking good and I hope you much success.

Absolutely. Also I am limited to the engine of Stellaris. So I can't go crazy with everything.

I seem to be having difficulties in getting the mod to work. I've downloaded it and put into the mod folder in my documents just like any of my other mods, but it's not showing in my mod lists when I open the game up.

Did you Remember to add the Mod to your Documents folder for Stellaris, Under the MOD Folder?

Yea its in the same folder as the rest of the mods for the game that didn't come from the workshop. In the Paradox Interactive folder -> Stellaris -> mod folder in my documents

You need both the Mod Folder itself, and a Second Seperate File so the Paradox Launcher can Detect and Add Hard-wired Mods to your Playset.

Just a reminder for these hard wired mods, you need to put in the data folder (Galactic Hunger) and its MOD file along with it in your documents folder. As without the mod folder, the launcher will not detect it.
Not the mod folder Galactic Hunger (version number) at the end.

Please add a Vaginal Vore Civic, Lizia.

Good to see someone pick up the mod and carry it on.

That said, call me a killjoy but a LOT of the mod needs to be stripped down and redone. I gave the original branch a free pass cause it was (basically) abandoned, but its so old and outdated that nearly none of it works for 3.10 (the current version).

On the plus side, you could probably cram everything into the Origin system and not deal with the janky event system anymore.

I see your suggestion, however I see no reason to add a civic specifically for it. As the current set up of Lethal Vore, Non Lethal, and prey such an addition is unnecessary. I may add civics later to focus on such things later, but I am giving the main three flavor and events first.
After that other stuff can come.

I sadly do need to touch events if I want to give everything flavor and depth. Though yea, origins for things outside of the main civics can make things far easier and diverse.

A few things of note.
It would be good to try to move away from using civics as effectively an "opt-in" to the systems in play, civic slots are valuable, especially early game, and anyone who might be wanting to play as normally as they can may find themselves unable to really interact with anything, with the event to opt in appearing only at the beginning of the game that is really a problem.
Especially for civics like Utopian Prey, the requirement to be pacifist makes it too restrictive to one playstyle, what if someone wants to play a militarist playstyle while still being prey focused?
It would be nice to see the events expanded beyond the predator events, maybe have some sort of play system where you can carefully balance predators hunger for production buffs by selecting pops to sacrifice to them, or choose to attempt to play the predator populations against each other, running the risk of planetary devastation or revolts.
One specific request I have is origins based on Syncretic Species, that would see either a prey population with a semi-subservient predator population, or a predator population with a docile livestock-esque prey population. Bonus points if you can slide in references to the Hunting Hours or Urban Jungle series, I've always considered those to be interesting and unique explorations of how a society in which vore is an everyday part of life would develop.
