Postby animeking352 » Tue Jun 12, 2018 10:53 am

Not happening. The very nature of the game prevents modding at this time.

They also are offering no mod support.

That's actually not true.

No mod support on launch, but it is planned.

The thing is, there is no offline play, so mods would be inherently tied to private servers.

A lot of people might take the time to mod an online only game, the problem being only the people with that particular mod would be able to see it. So mods that affect other players wouldn't work unless it was a weapon mod that fired the same ammunition or an armor mod that only SLIGHTLY altered the standard effects of regular armor. Honestly, it would have to be a mod that was more along the lines of a terrain mod or a quest mod. The same people though, the mod would only appear for the person who installed it unless it was a full on game play mod that altered something about the game at its core.

Not possible. It's online only and there isn't a way to host your own server, just have your own private areas at best far as we know. There will be no vore mod, because unless you can hack your own server together, it won't work.

If anything, it'd probably be relying on Gat's fallout 4 stuff - it's not exactly the same to just transition it between games, and multiplayer - though fallout 76 definitely looks like it has the same framework.

Now getting that to work in Multiplayer? That's an incredibly huge hurdle.. Buuut, if it did work.. just imagine, eating up other players for food, or just plain' holding someone across the wasteland, flaunting them to peeps in a vore server.

I don't think we know enough about their mod support to know anything at this stage.

Although I fear that they will tightly control the server-scape. That there will only be creation club approved mods and that anything overly sexual will not be allowed. That's my fear anyways. I hope to be proven wrong.

we still do not know enough to be certain one way or another. anyone who says there will or won't be modding support has based their entire assertion on an assumption. perhaps a fair assumption, but by no means a sturdy assumption. we do not yet know who will operate the servers. hell, todd even neglected to mention what, precisely, playing solo entails-- though likely to mean "not buddying up while there's other players around", it could easily also be interpreted as "setting up a private server and inviting nobody"

as for the question actually posed in the op? depends on how, if at all, modifiable the game will be. basically, you're asking this question waaaaaaaaay too early

Incorrect, there's going to be "private servers" according to Todd Howard.

Vore 76

Postby Golnor » Wed Jun 13, 2018 2:59 pm

So with private servers going to be a thing in fallout 76, does anybody think it likely that we would be able to have particular mods installed on said server?

And if it is possible, does anyone want to try porting the fallout vore mod over?

It’s on my to do list. But like I said in my thread, I don’t expect see mod tools until late 2019 to early 2020. More than likely I’ll be rebuilding the script base from scratch since I expect the core script extensions to be massively changed.

We also don’t know how the private servers will be truly set up or if they’ll cost money to run. There’s a lot of unknowns at this point. I’m hoping once the beta is out, I can rip into the archives and peek into the scripting base.

It's a survival game similar to many others, I imagine private servers will be something you have to rent.

The core script from Gat's mod won't work for multiple reasons. One, it's inherently limited due to the reliance on arrays (papyrus has a limit of 128 positions in an array, so 24-32 players would eat through that real fast), and there are A LOT of player specific commands in the code. I don't know yet how RefIDs for players on the servers will act. Bethesda games have been rock solid in how the IDs are generated and handled for 20 years, so 76 will be a huge departure from "business as usual". Since BGS-Austin mentioned in the making of fallout 76 doc that they were tying a lot of stuff to the individual player, I imagine there will be some way to discern an actor is a player via a flag or some get/set instructions.

I do plan on looking into porting FOVore to FO76 when the tools drop, but I'll basically have to code the script from the ground up to work with more human players, and I don't even know the extent of code changes BGS has implemented until I can crack the game archives open and export the source scripts.

I've been following all the follow up interviews. Todd and Uncle Pete have been very forthcoming with information. Solo does indeed mean not partying with anyone, but you're still in an online environment where you can come across other players. They plan on mod support, but have not committed to a date. Both Pete and Todd have said this multiple times in the follow ups, they just want to get the launch of the vanilla game shored up first. More information will come out. The dev tools showcased in the making of Doc was the updated Creation Kit, so I imagine we'll get the official tool again just like with FO4.

One thing that does concern me with modding is that the studio leads at BGS-Austin mention they plan on lots of future updates, a series of small content drops, and then occasional big content drops. Everytime BGS updates FO4, it sends the modding community into a flurry because F4SE gets busted. Small content drops can potentially have the same effect, so it may become prudent to not rely on F4SE for additional functionality. Which sucks royally because I LOVE the stuff I can do with F4SE.

Just curious as a programmer.

Can arrays contain other arrays in papyrus?

Spoiler: show
And no I have no intention to wade into the cesspool that is the creation kit again after the stranger mod to anyone wondering.

Yeah, this is basically how most of the modding community for BGS games feels at the moment. Todd Howard says he wants modding to be a thing, along with private worlds, at a later date, but if, when, and how that might happen, and what limitations it will have, is very much a guess right now.

I personally haven’t tried. I usually shove structs into the array. The limit feels arbitrary, IMO. The fovore looks like the intent was a linked list, but settled on an array instead. Converting to a true linked list wouldn’t be too hard.

Pure online could make a vore mod hard, but as bethesda confirmed they will add mod at some point, there must be a way.
This could mean that you can just host your own vore server, or that you have to rent one. Noone knows, thats something we have to wait for.
What I can say from experience, a community server could be hard to maintain, and we don't know anything about the engine and all, so we have no idea how hard the mod will be to create.

So lets just stay patient for the moment, we can only speculate right now anyways. Once the game and more mod infos are relvealed we can piuck this up again.
Nothing better than a warm, spacious womb to rest and relax in.
