Mushy Shroom Hunter 2?

A while back (Around 10 years ago), I mad a casual side scroller game in GameMaker.

Original Mushy Shroom Hunter's title


Since then I've been learning a lot more about making games, though my skill at pixel graphics hasn't improved very much, and most of that earning has gone into attempts at RPG Maker based Games.
With how much I've learned, and now having the full version of GameMaker Studio, I am considering revising my side scroller to see if I can produce a better and more challenging game.

I CANNOT use the old artwork for references very easily though, due to having a newer computer and the one I actually made Mushy Shroom Hunter on died around 2010.

This means having to relearn some of the tricks I used, and learning how to do them better, as well as learning to pull off new tricks to challenge players.

So, this is just to teat the waters, and see if there is support, but mostly this is still just in the planning phase.

Unfortunately, all images related to the game I had were on the laptop that died in 2010, and I'm not sure if the download link in the old thread is still valid.

Basically, I would be making a sequel purely by memory of my original. Thankfully, the original wasn't that great or complicated, but that was more due to inexperience than intent.

Well, what do you know, someone still had a copy of the original Mushy Shroom Hunter's.

First test it successfully ran, too.
10 years old, Drag&Drop programming, and it still works for the most part.

OMG, the graphics were terrible.

As for the new game, things are looking up as the programming is code based, and therefore able to handle more complex tasks.

with access to the original, I have at least some reference with which to create the main character again.

Welcome to the internet, the place in which stuff once uploaded never truly disappears^^
And hey, most of us dont bother that much about graphics, or else we'd be just complainign and comparing stuff from here with games like Wither and similar games.
Nothing better than a warm, spacious womb to rest and relax in.

Alright, I have all the basics in place, and am working out how I want to set up the DEATH window for non-Boss enemy and hazards that will have them.

Currently experiencing a glitch with the daggers that cause them to not always process the collision from both sides as needed, but working it out so it's not a problem for the actual game. Spears on the other hand are processing correctly, and both are aimed and fired with the mouse.

Spears have a timed deletion, which is probably why they are working better, while daggers delete themselves when colliding with the ground, or hazards. Since the leaves are one way platforms with the ground as a parent, you cannot use daggers downward through leaves.

Having to choose between arrow keys and WASD for movement, and if I use the arrow keys, the jump will have to be Clicking the mouse wheel so you can still jump, move, and shot all at the same time.

Working on the MC and having to figure out which is the best program for handling the complexity of the animations I want to do, but also needing the consistancy of the smoothing from the controlled blur effect that ignores transparent pixels.

Over all, this means the Alpha stage is almost complete, and I can start with a Beta Test Demo once everything else is setup.

First of all, I have the beginning sprites for the player character ready and animated properly, but having a few collision issues to get through.

Second, I've checked it out, and the original zip file seems to be intact for the original game.

Progress is slow because I am doing things in code, and actually planning out the game instead of just throwing whatever into it.
already planning on how to make some of the enemies from the original a lot better. (Especially the spiders)

Still debating how to set up the "Death" animations, and still having trouble with the dagger not always registering on the enemy.
so those two things are at the top of the list to figure out how to implement them in a simple but effective way.

Basic Enemies to return:
Spiders (Need serious improvement), Flowers (Worked find, but could use an update), and Snakes (basic as it gets enemy).

Basic Enemies to be added:

Bosses to return:
Dragon (basic runner level), Spider (Need to really redo this one to make it more dangerous), and Snake (I know there is more I can do with this one).

Power Ups to return:
Dagger, Spear, Armor upgrade, and health cookie.

Power Ups to be added:
Extra Life.

Wow, not a lot is set this time, but several items are ready to return in the squeal game.
I do need some new ideas, but may be able to fill some in later.

well what kind of vore content do you have in mind?what are your limits to making the sprites?so many things to think.

The Boss fights only have Oral vore planned, though I would like to add in other types of vore.
Sprite work is hard for me, and I'm relearning working with GameMaker Studio.

The MC is Female right now (Since that's how it was in the first one, and I just got the dress so the skirt flares when falling.

Would be nice to add some characters purely for scenes, but that could result in some one time uses of characters' sprite sets and states. (might be a good Idea for check points)
micro play would be fun, since the bosses kinda count a giants.

Event though I have done a lot to create a side scrolled game already, my mind is questioning a more Legend of Zelda style top down game for a greater focus on exploration.
This completely derails most of the work I've already done, but opens up new options for potential ways to display of set up the vore.

Well, before I do a lot of sprite work, lets see what a nice poll will tell me about what the community is interested in.

Worst comes to worst, I could end up making two games if part of the voting is to close.

Two takes on the simple little world would be interesting to see, but a lot of work would need to be done for each game.

Looks like we have a strong push for this to remain a side scrolled game, but the other two parts of the poll seem to be remaining close.

As it stands of this post, the MC will be a female feline.
I do need to do a lot of code clean up, but will be able to start working on the game over the weekend.

Going to leave the poll running just to see if there are any changes, but not expecting any more at this time.

Whelp got a health and death system sort of worked out, but it's not completely what I want.

Also, set up a demo level, but the zipped file size is to large to directly link to this thread.
