Hiatus Update

Posted by IrateLiterate 5 years ago

So it's been nearly a month of my "somewhat" hiatus, and how has it been?

Not really good, there haven't been any improvements. Not emotionally and certainly not art-wise, which I feel I've been on a steady decline for years now. It feels like for all I've tried to practice, I've barely improved at all when others have started off worse and improved so much more in a shorter amount of time. My numbers have just been going down with Tumblr imploding, Twitter being a failure to launch (for me), and my gallery here stagnating.

I'm unhappy if I'm consistently working on art to post, because I burn out. I'm unhappy if I'm taking a break from posting art, because every second to post and try and remain relevant is going by unused.

"But Irate, shouldn't you just be worrying about doing art for yourself?"

I never said I'd give up on art, I clearly can't. But I can always give up on posting it to share with no one.

I say you do what you think is best. It is not our place to dictate when you upload and how good your art should be. Simply step back and take a look at your limits so you can find what works for you.

Make art for yourself not to post is best, regardless of where you end up going artistically I hope you get to a better place emotionally

I'm sorry if you don't think your work is improving, I can see how that would be demotivating. I personally really like it, and think that it's some of the best on the site, but if you think otherwise and want to stop sharing it, that's your right. If that's what it takes to make you happy and healthy, all the more reason to do so.

Hey, I'm always eager to see more of your art. Still, do whatever you feel is best.
