Consolidated site updates for 2026

Since I have made a lot of updates daily in the last few months, I figure I will just keep everything in one blog post now. If there is anything major, I will just make a site-wide notice. Otherwise, this will just receive updates via edit. So you won't be notified each time. But realistically, you shouldn't need to be notified of every update anyway.

2026 01 01
Animation (Gif, APNG) and transparency (GIF, PNG) should now be correctly resized without visual artifacts on the cropped / uncropped thumbnail or derivative sizes.
Fixing (hopefully) the last of the log-out issue some people might have experienced in the past. Now it should keep everyone logged in for half a year.

Deleted comments should no longer show up in slideshow mode.
Blacklist was malfunctioning on the tag page. It is fixed.

First big feature of the year: Filter HUD
- Allowing toggling on and off filter(s) on any pages where the filter(s) works on.
- Show you real time status of the number of item(s) blocked/spoilered/omitted on any given page.
- Mouse over on blured item will explains why it is blocked.

Apparently, the filter HUD doesn't autohide on some devices; this has now been fixed.

Added extra feature in the tag page. Making a sortable tag list page, and the ability to see your own tag cloud or list view.

Added media type icon to thumbnail for mobile users.
Changed Gif thumbnail generation to fix the issue where really large gif with a lot of frames might have a problem generating thumbnails. Anything more than 200 frames and/or anything over 500x500 should ideally be using a video format still.
Fixed some javascript error on commission page on mobile pages.

Pushing some update to mobile front page to modernize the layout and make it easier to use.

Another front page overhaul. Added "Vore Game" forum as our dedicated card because Vore Game has now covered 75% of the forum traffic on its own. It is by far the most popular area and deserves its own navigation shortcut. Also improved various forum post navigation on both desktop and mobile front page. Added attachment visibility to encourage people to add an actual screenshot to their game.

Fixing a small oversight regarding to replying to a shout from someone who has shout disabled on their page not being possible. We have now changed it so that replying is still possible, since many people might not be aware that turning it off will also disable reply. Plus, if they don't want people to reply, they should just not shout in the first place.

Added "Favorite filtering" in search. You can now search based on everything, favorited item, non-favorited item, and specific folder.
Added Favorite marking, now when you browse folder/tag/search, if an item is in your favorites already, you will see a little heart.

Added forum sorting UI, when viewing forum (where you see a list of topics such as this https://aryion.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=18 ) you can sort the list based on replies, views, and last post by clicking on the column titles (You used to be able to that further down the list but it was annoying to use)
Added forum filtering UI, you can filter the forum based on the flag you added to each topic.

Changed the forum search index to support full text with fewer limitations now.

Added @mention feature in the forum. It will now notify anyone mentioned with a message in their message page when mentioned.
Streamlined forum posting workflow, making quotation automatically mention the quoted person. Keeping the quote feature and message in-line instead of forcing it to a new page so it is easier to quote more than one message. Adding a link to each quote to make the conversation easier to follow in the forum.
Fixed the post header to link to userpage
Also, forum speed should be vastly improved.

PDF mobile view support is added via PDF.js made by Mozilla.

- Zoom level changing
- Side scroll locking
It is considered experimental, but it should still be far better than simply downloading the file or viewing it inline. It does support Readeer mode, but there might be oddities with sentence length.

Updated image size logic after clicking on the image. It will go into "Full-screen" mode. There are a few added features allowing the image to be zoomed in, scrolled, etc. Also, it should detect which version to display a little better based on your opening screen size outside of full-screen mode.

Fixing autocomplete username list (In tag, search, filters, etc) where it sometimes doesn't return a name. It should be more reliable and always return exact name match now.
Adding tagqueue proposal history item viewer and made the page move a bit faster than before.

Made more adjustments to the new image viewer on both desktop and mobile. Making sure they are pinch-and-zoom-capable on mobile devices for both templates.
Adusting mobile side bar message count display (previously it was added together to save space but create confusion) now it will just display each one individually, regardless.
Added individual message type link to the desktop as well, making navigation on the message page easier by letting it jump to a specific message type from any page.

Fixed some video thumbnail issues; apparently, we used to hardcode a thumbnail to be created at the 4 sec mark, and videos below 4 seconds would error out. I totally forgot we ever did anything like that. Now it should work properly for all video lengths.
Fixed some bugs in RTF upload that cause the uploader to error out when margins are called.

Updated mobile template, added bottom bar navigation, improved animation, and flow on the side bar.

Adjusted the front page and Forum to have a narrow-width view mode and improved some navigation aspects in those situations. Mostly for people who want to keep using the normal site on mobile.

Added support for YouTube links to work properly in the forum. Most other direct video file links should embed as well with the video tags.
Added "Taking a break" mode. See settings area for details.

Added Poll. Now you can add a poll to your gallery, or forum, even in your comment, description, userpage profile text, post it on Discord, etc, like this!

Backported PDF.js onto the desktop template when it is viewed with a mobile device. It will *work* with PDF even if someone is using a desktop template, though you should understand that an interface for desktop will not function well on a mobile interface, even if it technically works.
Added some fixes for thumbnail long-press opening link on a new tab in the message page. Some mobile devices didn't have that option.
Added *a lot more* logging and preventive throttling on suspicious login and traffic.
Finished another round of security audit on all our upload and text areas. We had no known vulnerability before, but we will make additional temper-proofing just to be extra safe.

Fixed some small issue with tag edit -> tag approval queue workflow dropdown doesn't show up sometimes. Also improved the tag editing with tab support.

Major resizing and thumbnail pipeline overhaul
Format has changed from JPG to AVIF. Images should load much faster at higher quality now.
Resize resolution is changed to 1280 (width) and 3000 (height). The resized image should be a lot more readable with greater detail.
Thumbnails are now loading at 300 x 300 instead of 100 x 100.
The existing upload will take time to process, maybe a month or so. Though new uploads should be working with this new setting.
This is primary to get ready for any UI overhaul so the gallery will look good on hi-res (retina) display.

While I'm processing all the preview images anyway, I made some changes to make unusual sizes (comics in particular) more viewable. It should be more intelligent and default to panning mode on tall images now, and set the proper zoom level immediately so it is viewable without extra fiddling, and if full size is still desired, it should do the same thing.
Also made mobile fullsize easier to toggle.

Tagging permission for addition and removal is now separate; the user can set the default permission for their default permission or for individual items.
Managing items will default the destination folder to the current folder, so it should not unintentionally move an item to a different folder.

Added a bunch of caching in the backend due to repeated traffic spikes and gradually increasing overall site traffic. Trying to make our current hardware count when everything has gotten more expensive.

Fixing some mobile page layout issues. Might make dark theme harder to see on some pages after this fix, depends on theme, but working a system with theme can be challenging.

Rewriting fallback from AVIF support to better work on older OS/device/browser that lack AVIF support. It should retains functionality once we convert all the thumbnail to webp.

Tags display added to slideshow
Tags should now be consistently displayed across the site. Previously, some areas did not properly display color, and doesn't show the bold style when a tag was added by the item owner/artist.

Finished a lot of rewrites across the site for mostly security changes. Including gallery, forum, interactive story, etc. If you see any oddity, do PM me.
Also improved the ISS edit page and the edit story area slightly to improve navigation.

Favs page now added sorting options and filter options to let you find specific artists in your own favorites. Also received some UI improvements.
Commission listing has been overhauled to improve details and layout and sorting/filtering method.
Front page mobile thumbnail does not always load properly, depending on the order of operation (i.e., expanding an artist card then scrolling to the right). This should be fixed and load thumbnail regardless of what happens.

Added a feature where the watched tags for each user would also show up on tag input for easier insertion. Autocomplete will still take over as soon as you type something else.

Updated tag page to support tag bubble for easier navigation and removal. You can just click x or blackspace once in-line to delete a tag, for example. Also better visual understanding of what you inputed.

Additional changes to the tags bubble system
* Click any tag bubble (outside the ×) to unpack it back into normal editable text right in the search line.
* Press Left Arrow at the beginning of the input box to unpack preceding tag bubbles. Basically, they can be edited just like plain text.
* Unpacked tags retain their comma separators so you can unpack, edit, and repack multiple tags simultaneously without them merging into a single string.
* It should now preserve the exact left-to-right tag order when picking watched tags.
* Matching will now ensure when you press enter it will pick the highlighted tag correctly.

Made various update on forum to make it navigates easier on mobile width. Desktop view also has some minor improvement.

Added Scheduled Publishing ("Publish Later") for submissions
*"Publish Later" option to Submit New Item and Edit Item dialogs to schedule unreleased artwork for automatic future publication.
Enabled interactive thumbnail cropping on mobile upload dialogs, previously mobile can't crop at all during upload.
Added Drag & Drop support to desktop upload dialogs so you can drop files directly onto the "IMAGE GOES HERE" canvas placeholder.
Added notification workflow: Similar to publish later. If you upload an item as "SELF" (as in hidden from public) but later change it to Everyone or Registered, it will notify watchers with a message at that point. You can not trigger a notification if you change permission back to SELF, then change it again to Everyone. Notification for each item will only be sent once.

Message Center & Mobile Notifications Improvements
- Message counts in the top header, user banner, jump bar, and mobile section badges now update instantly on-screen when clearing messages.
- Added 2-click / 2-tap confirmation to "Remove Selected" on both desktop and mobile when multiple items are selected to prevent accidental mass removal. Single items can still be removed in one click.
- Replaced blocking pop-up dialogs on mobile with non-blocking toast notifications for a much smoother swipe and delete experience.
- Fixed a pagination edge case where the link to the very last page was occasionally hidden when viewing the fourth-to-last page.

Message Center & Notification Improvements
- Introduced a 3-tier color system for notification badges and breakdowns across mobile and desktop:
* Red: Direct personal interactions (Comments, Private Messages, Mentions, Chat PUBs)
* Green: Targeted feedback (Watches, Favorites)
* Blue: General feed activity (Submissions, Blogs)
- On mobile, the top mail button now displays separate colored badge balls for each category instead of one combined number, letting you see at a glance whether you have direct messages, favorites, or new submissions.
- Replaced the plain text breakdown on desktop (previously formatted like "(15S, 1W, 5F)") and the mobile slideout menu with clean, standalone color-coded chips that you can click to jump straight to that section.
- Added matching color dot indicators to both the desktop floating jump bar and the section headers on the message page for clearer visual association.
