Books You Ought to Read: The Year of the Cloud Posted 4 years ago
American scientists led by Dr. Peter Yudkin (who feigns a foreign accent to go with his European-sounding surname to seem smarter) at an observatory take photographic plates of a mysterious celestial object near Mars using a highly sophisticated telescope and determine it is a cloud of some sort. Predicting that it will reach Earth in a matter of days and that the planet will in fact pass through it, NASA sends a rocket to collect samples of it. Analyzing the samples, they determine the cloud is organic in nature, composed primarily of polymers and a few other elements they can't identify. However, test animals subjected to the particles the rocket collected don't seem affected by it, and so at first it seems as if nothing harmful will come of its contact with Earth.

The cloud...

The SWAT Kats Kickstarter Posted 4 years ago
Things have been pretty hectic for me these past few months. Long periods without my meds coupled with short periods on them make for some... interesting mood swings. Add to this the fact I'm not adjusting as well as I'd hoped I would to Mutant the cat living with me and I've been a little volatile lately.

On a very personal note, I've finally left the SWAT Kats Discord server begun by MoDaD, the admin of the SWAT Kats Encyclopedia. There were only a handful of people left there who I actually liked or knew very well, and with no news of Revolution forthcoming, I just got tired of the lack of progress on that front. I felt like most people's "wait and see" attitude was being unfairly generous to the Tremblay Brothers. They don't need patience, they...

Big surprise, it didn't sell, so the guy relisted it for a (comparatively) more reasonable $24.
The $50-$99 Matchbox Ford Explorer 04 Posted 4 years ago
A crushed (post Tyrannosaurus attack) version of Jurassic Park's Explorer 04 is due in an upcoming wave of Matchbox's pretty excellent Jurassic World series of die cast, as well as a battle pack with a grungier deco. Along with Jeep 10, the damaged Explorer is a vehicle fans have been wanting for a while now, to the point where many were taking their own regular Matchbox Explorers and taking a hammer to them to create the look of the vehicle after Rexy has gotten through using it for a chew toy (some people have also done the same thing with Eddie's Mercedes, "Santana," from The Lost World).

But Mattel hearing people's pleas for a trashed version of the iconic Explorer isn't the reason for this journal. No. It's the absurdity of this eBay...

Woo, I'm 36! Or at least I will be this afternoon! My mom says I was born in the afternoon. :D
Mutant Posted 4 years ago
Well, I know I thought I was done with pets after losing Richard, Burton and now Spot all in the same year, to say nothing of the fact I lost Spot so soon after Burton and after having her less than a week, but my mom persuaded me to take one of her younger, healthier cats, who we call "Mutant" because she has so many extra toes on her front paws, making it look like she's wearing mittens. Another cat, Mr. Thumbs, has the same condition. We'll see how things work out with Mutant.
RIP Spot Posted 4 years ago
After less than a week, I am once again petless. Spot the cat passed away less than two hours ago at the Cleveland School Animal Hospital here in Garner. And that's not the only bad news from today. I'll start from the beginning. The entire reason I had Spot, as explained in a previous journal, was because my mom is moving out of her old house and can't keep all her animals. A Place For Mom is letting her keep two cats, Georgie and Mr. Thumbs, and Lafayette the dog. The rest are going to friends, family or shelters, depending. I agreed to take Spot, our oldest cat. She arrived here to live with me earlier this week, and, apart from seeming to dodder a bit, which I chalked up to old age, she seemed fine. Her left eye was runny, but my mom assured me that she'd had that particular problem...

RIP Rip Torn and Rutger Hauer Posted 4 years ago
Earlier this month we lost Rip Torn (Men in Black, The Beastmaster). :(

And I learned today that Rutger Hauer passed away. What a shame! I really loved him in movies such as Split Second (pictured below) and, of course, the classic Blade Runner. :(

Spot the Cat! Posted 4 years ago
My mom is finally moving out of her house of roughly nineteen years into a community called A Place for Mom. Now, she has a lot of cats and dogs, and they'll only let her have three (she chose Lafayette, Georgie and Mr. Thumbs). Harry, the cat who had to have his leg amputated due to cancer, will be going to live with my sister. Kittens Tigger and Milo will be going to my uncle. Harley the dog will be returning to her original owners, some of our cousins. We're not entirely sure about Sweetie-Pie just yet, but because, well, she's exactly what her name implies, she's sure to get adopted. This leaves Spot, our oldest cat since Oskar died. I decided to take her, and my mom brought her over to my apartment today. Just like with Richard the scorpion and Burton the tarantula I'll need to get a...
