I was actually working on installing the system on the new server while this happened. It was a big surprise to find that an issue which happened on starfire could be reproducible on the new system. Rebooting fixed, but that it was actually caused by the leap second insertion?

I have not been here to respond or continue with the updates in over a week, and will continue to be mostly away until next Tuesday. However hopefully after that I will be back and will be able to resume. The first order of business is going to be posting a list of recent and future plans for enhancements. After that, I have six projects which will need the assistance of artists and a story author.
In addition to finding some artists with paypal time and interest, I will need to investigate whether it is worthwhile to add additional featuresets. Enhanced video support, Streaming support, oekaki, and beedraw integration were all on the drawing table for g4 but not implemented.

Work on the Proof-of-Concept implementation for G4 is coming along more rapidly now, its essentially usable from a non-artist perspective.
One issue I am having now tho, is as I look through the items and hop from person to person I keep seeing good posts and want to +fav or comment on them. But I'm in the test database and I know it won't go anywhere. And yet half the reason I want to comment at the time is its convenient, fast, and easy to do in G4; so I don't really want to find the same item in G3 to post a comment in the old system.

Some areas will certainty need user input on design and behavior, specifically the new message page, favorites, and especially the community tag-editing system. Once we move past the proof-of-concept phase into the actual...

I would like to announce that I have upgraded my user icon (sometimes called avatar) This was done with the assistance of Humbug, who helped by creating the new icon. I think that it is sufficiently interesting to merit a blog posting to notify people about it.

Do you think I should also use this new icon on other websites where I have an icon?

We have added a new feature to the g3 message page. Now whenever someone you are watching posts a blog, you will receive a notification on your message page, just like when they post a new gallery item.

For those interested in the technical details, this has been implemented a bit differently in the back-end than the other notifications. Since this relied on detecting actions that take place inside phpbb3, instead of inside the gallery, I opted to try and not modify the phpbb3 source code at all. So instead of creating the messages in code after a blog was made, I added a trigger to the blog table, so the database automatically populates the messages when a new blog is inserted. This model seems more elegant, and I will use this going forward.
