I'm letting people come on in so they can talk about ideas and start making characters if they want to (or just spectate!) but I don't plan on beginning the game proper until after the new year.

First: Yeah, Making of a Hero is on hiatus. After I got poor Galya captured, my enthusiasm cratered- that's a my bad, and other personal stuff kept me from mustering the energy to get back to it. It's not OVER, it's just on the shelf for a while until I can come back really fresh to it.


Second: Because I routinely make very questionable life decisions, I'm looking at running a play-by-post game either on a discord server or on the forums here, using a vorish tweak to Mutants and Masterminds 3e. Last blog, I mentioned I was starting an interactive story. It's going great so far, 13 posts and about 30,000 words in! People are starting to flag, though, which is understandable. So, here's the deal. I've got an overabundance of ideas and basically no outlets* through which to vent them these days. However, the thought of just sitting quietly by myself, writing up a few thousand words of story, and posting them... these days even the idea of it bores me to tears. Writing alone, without any feedback, without any chatter to keep my energy up? I get bored and wander off real fast, and get frustrated as well- it's happened a few times in the last few years.

One of the things I've been eyeballing is writing an interactive story- not like the "Interactive Story" part of this website, but something closer to what folks like Rayen and dokudoku are doing where they'll post a part of a story and take votes on what action the audience wants the main...

As of right this instant, there are... four PM-based RPs and one, arguably two forum games that are waiting on me to write a post. When I woke up today intending to go trawl the chat to find a nice, contained, one on one RP, because of those PMs and forum posts hanging over my head instead of being able to get really into the search I felt mostly guilty. "Why are you trying to find something else with so many people are waiting for you-" that sort of thing. I miss getting to do 'live' RPs in a chatroom, badly, but between the games I'm committed to playing/GMing and work there's maybe one day in a good month where I can honestly say I have a block of 4 or more hours in which to try to find and then actually do one of those RPs, and in combination with that I can rarely find one...

Due to assorted unfortunate personal circumstances, anything that requires me to do more than a few sentences of writing may be randomly and indefinitely delayed going forward. People I'm PM RPing with and GMing for, this means you, sadly! I will try to keep up as best I can, but that already-shaky ability is getting degraded for at least a few weeks.

So after quite a long time, I've decided the time is right to start commissioning some artists I like. The only hitch is that I would like to do this without my real contact information (name, phone number, etc) being shown off to anyone I'm paying. This appears to rule out Paypal, who removed their ability to give anonymously some time ago, and that in turn appears to rule out about 95% of everyone who accepts commissions. I should amplify here that I don't care about the government or paypal or whoever being able to pin my name to the payment, I only care about it being anonymous to the person I'm actually paying- don't need to or want to break any laws!

So yeah, I decided it was high time for me to stop "not writing" and "write something". So I did a quickie 5000 word or so thing today and posted it. It's not great- the years it's been since I write show in a few places- but I wanted to DO something again. Feels good!

I have a moderately complex setting in my head, but suffice it to say- the Roman Empire didn't really 'fall', there was a Shadowrun-style irruption of magic and magical creatures centuries ago, and the world is a fairly confused place with all sorts of abnormal shenanigans cooking and coexisting with modern technology. And gladiatorial games! Because I used the magic as an excuse for people to be able to eat people, because it's fun to do so. And then I included it in the gladiatorial games....
