Great Tree
It stood before her like the Great
Tree.
The Great Tree, the silent sentinel of
her village, with its roots so long, they pierced the womb of the
earth. With its branches so high, they raised toward the heavens,
only to have their tips scallop the underbelly of the clouds. And
with its profile so tall, it thrust up from the ground as though
tearing the horizon asunder.
It marked the passage of time. With its
stunning display of foliage in the autumn, and sickly, anemic
skeleton in the

Honeyed
Words
A flutter.
Of something
small, and precious, skittered between the leaf-tops. It was only a
whisper of movement. A suggestion, a hint. The dirt sighed, opening
up into a tiny impression of a foot. And then another. And another.
And soon another. And then, there was a track of these tiny, adorable
foot-prints twisting and turning, looping and circling, appearing,
and appearing yet again in the earth.
It was only a
glimmer of color. Perhaps of wind-swept red tresses - or was it

You always looked so
peaceful beside me. Like some kind of doll. I was always afraid that
if I touched you, you'd break. You were always so delicate. Frail.
Even before your sickness took hold of you.
I can see it in your
eyes. You fear everything now. Especially me. It breaks my heart to
see you like this. Your eyes had so much wonder in them long ago...I
shouldn't be thinking about this,but...
