Arthur

"Welcome
to my world," the drunken foxtaur said, and belched.
The
minotaur tugged his nose ring and grinned. He'd been telling the fox
about waking up next to a spectacularly ugly bugbear with no memory
of how he got there. He had a flexible view of what constituted an
acceptable bed partner and would take almost anything there,
sometimes whether said partner wanted to be there or not. This time,

It was a
surprisingly small cottage the messenger found at the end of the dirt
road, yet it was clearly the right one. Atop a mortared-together
plinth of stones high as a man's hip was a wooden carving of the
couple who lived here. The messenger paused to look at it, because
this couple was an odd one.

It
was a warm day in the forest, the sun shining bright on the narrow,
delicate leaves of a peach tree. A small cluster of leaves had been
carefully arranged in the crook of the two main branches. To most,
the collection of leaves would have appeared to be just a haphazard
arrangement, but to a trained eye its true nature was clear. It was a

in the west, where the nomads built their cities to trade with the
fair-skinned easterners.

name being a mouthful for those not used to it, he went by “Alias”
