The stuff I've written and posted on here are mainly for indulgence, though I also find amusement in exploring the reactions of bystanders/friends of characters who either admire the dragons from the start or unlock said admiration through some random encounter... especially if said dragon still eats people but keeps one specific person "off the plate" so to speak.
We all have our thing. :P

I feel like I normally assign a colour of scales early, then forget to mention it ever again until, I realise I haven't given them a full description for a while.
The manor lord aspect was very much meant to be a sudden, shocking change of tone as a catalyst for her growing as a dragon.
I will likely try to return to them when I feel a bit more motivation and direction. The whole, section in this town was a little faster than I'd planned but, I was flagging a bit on this one.
Admittedly, for every character who is as, admiring of dragons as many readers, I find more amusement in the main lead being decidedly not interested, because it allows for some contrast and banter

To be fair to Afriera, she has hang-ups about being raised by humans, and is something of denial about her role in their world. So she channels that dysfunction into a complex about being dominant over them. It's not exactly a healthy mindset she has, but it's what she's grown into

And so the end has finally come. Abrupt it was... you even made it feel more so because of that short time skip towards the end.
I guess the guy who came for Afriera at the very end isn't just related to a previous servant she'd eaten but also the one she ate while she and Rolf was walking in the forest? A fitting end for him. What was he expecting to happen, facing a giant, man-eating dragon alone with a simple dagger? At the very least, her stomach got another human to digest right when she was hoping for one of her... clients... to seek full retention.
Anyway, the open-ended conclusion was nice and clean. Rolf and Afriera's relationship had developed greatly from how it was at the start. Now she's aiming to win him over like the rest of her admirers. There's still a hint of danger in the long run, either from being discovered by or eating the wrong person or from the unnamed dragonslayer learning about the digestive demise of his majordomo.
Overall the story was great from start to finish. I got thrown off a little by the manor lord's sudden death and the resulting shift in the story's tone, but even when things came back to have some degree of predictability, Rolf's remaining a "normie" much like the characters in your other stories combined with your writing style kept me engaged. I'll enjoy rereading this every so often, just as I do with your other works. :3
Also... she's a red dragon!? Damn, I love red dragons. :3 Such a classic color. Are her eyes green too? It'd be another classic pairing.

I mean, my thought is being friendly is the way to go. Less issue with dragon slayers unless they are of the religious kind. Then there is nothing to sway them. Plenty more meat on cows and other creatures and much less complaints from such, than eating humans all the time. At least that is the way I see the dergs I play as or write of.

Rolf tried his best, he really did, to not listen to the… noises, of the dragoness in the other room. Not the growls that softened into an indistinct rumble. The rhythmic creaks of the crushed couch’s remaining structure, the scrape of scale on scale. It all tightened his chest as he sat with his back to the wall in the adjoining room. Every little bit of it flashed memories of being, used to fill that silken, compressing tunnel.

Lmao the grass is always greener on the other side. Jason probably wouldn't want to spend his entire life living with a dragon and her "cave".
Afriera did make a good point about Rolf asking for something from who will soon become their... eccentric tourists, but I'm guessing he also wants to have a life other than just being her caretaker in case it turns out that he can't bring himself to leave her alone and go back home.
Probably wouldn't be a good idea, anyway? Those people who stormed the noble's house after he passed might just vent all their anger at him in Afriera's absence.

Afriera gets a random admirer to play with and eat? And it has her thinking about Rolf? Oho I didn't expect her character development to come from that. Must've been everything else that's happened to them so far, I suppose.
I like some of the world-building the musician gave though. Intel about the next town (so many ideas the story could go), and even mentions of how some dragons are deferential to farflung royalty or are partners with a skilled knight. Only thing missing are references/shoutouts to your other stories? You've written loads of stories about dragons (and humans) over 10, 15 years or more... :3

For all his experience in the caves, Rolf had to realise he’d underestimated the problems of sleeping in one. The discomfort was expected, a deep ache throbbed in the places that had been pressed long to the hard stone. Worse was the cold. Where he’d been tucked against the curled dragoness he could feel a pleasant warmth, but the limbs strewn on the ground felt as cold and heavy as the surrounding stone. He forced himself to sit up, back of his head bumping the belly plates.

Death by snu snu, indeed. Whether Mr. Caver here will do any better remains to be seen... but knowing DrakeZephyr... I would not be surprised if there's some greater plot or conspiracy behind Afriera's acquisition or the dragon lover's death.

Hmm so Rolf likes to explore caves, and the first... session... had an effect on him? I wonder if he'll end up better off than his predecessor. But knowing how you approach your stories, I feel like there's something more turbulent underneath the surface. After so many years reading your stories, I have a slight grasp of your uniquely realistic approach to the dragons' worldview. Afriera wouldn't let herself be kept in a stable and ridden around by a fat aristocrat for no reason. Looking forward to the next update!

I do appreciate Daniel's straightforward "yeah but that's not what I want" argument. Still young, that one, and the truth is that five hundred years later who knows what he'll want. But it does feel like he's effectively being raised by Cory at this point, so it'll probably work out alright.

It's good seeing everything coming together. A lot of characters introduced, their characteristics used, and the amusing image of Daniel just carrying Ezzie off.
On another note, I like that comment about "taking what is mine" against preferring the option he thinks Cory would be happier with. It's a balance of classic draconic possessiveness and an emotional bond.

The passage of time was hazy, when Daniel was digesting. Sleep played upon his senses, tugging his mind down into its embrace where reality blurred with fantasy for hours, or seconds before the sharp awareness of being awake informed him he’d been sleeping. By the time he backtracked through the hazy dreams to determine where they started and reality ended, he had dozed off again.

Oh, lovely chapter. I like that Artur's overall position of "yeah but what about in five hundred years" is quite relevant; I like Daniel, he does seem like a good egg who could grow up to be a good guy, but it's a pretty big unknown to leave to the future.
Then there's the chaos that'll be unleashed when James and Cory go missing...certain incorrect conclusions will be simply unavoidable.

All things considered, I think Daniel might actually be on the right track...even if the city doesn't quite see it that way. If he's taking lessons of giving others a chance like he was given that's a good thing! That it was taken advantage of isn't great, but it's still a better attitude than his siblings and more likely to fit into society.

You know, it's interesting to think about how context matters...the doctor saying "I'm going to give you an injection of painkillers, it'll hurt a moment" and you react WAY differently than if you're bitten by a venomous snake for the same effect.

Glad you liked it. Yeah, the soul is dead line is meant to hark back to her first meeting with them, the line that changed her mind about doing a bit with the mouse in the first place. To make her... rather literal declaration as a statement piece. Maybe a little controversial, but good for publicity, sort of thing.

Damn, saved only because Jack had expected it from Roxie.
Gotta hand it to her though, the whole "soul is dead" bit was a sly jab at both Jack and Res. I figure that she would've found a way to cancel Jack's gig even if she had digested Res and continue her concert uninterrupted.
And now that I think about it, the "poison pill" strategy also carried an implicit message: that those who are aware they're fading away will fight tooth and nail to stay relevant.
Very good development. Lots to unpack.
Based on how the chapter concluded, I think that you're able to end the story here, but it would certainly be nice to see a part 4 XD

I’m dead, I’m dead. Res grimaced, the words pulsing through his mind again and again, buried in feline scent, pressed into the fur of Jack’s chest. He could feel a sped heartbeat below, hear sounds of a world larger than him out and around. I did fret the weekend session was, the juicy part people would hope to see. I suppose in my mind this pair of stories was sort of an intro to the world, and the casualness of the experience to Coleus was what I was trying to capture. That said, I'm hoping in future stories with her to focus a bit more on what she gets up to at home

Sadly my character's survival can sometimes be a touch predictable. I did give serious consideration to introducing a, replacement of sorts and having him find a stomach... but, I got to like him. And I'm fond of ending at the beginning

I've always expected that this series would end openly, with Newton continuing to wander. His plot armor is so strong that I figured you were just using him to explore various settings.
The ending is just ambiguous enough that you can't quite tell whether he's still in the city or closer to where he started in the beginning of the series, and I like that. Good job on seeing this all the way through.
Also, this entry had been very nice to read! Wonderful work.

I did consider early on that his tale should end with a cat swallowing him. Something jarring, just, swallowed, and a paragraph or two following the cat before the curtain closed. But... it's not generally my style, So I didn't really pursue that route

I also enjoyed the implication that Alex's friend Casey is the teenager that Newton got away from allll the way back in chapter one. Though it does make me worry about his chances with Alex around..
