The Den of Dari’Karra; The Empress and Dari

“Mm… right there” Weavera crooned, stretching her long body out on the nest of cushions she settled into so comfortably. Twitches in the tendrils at her jaw spoke of the delight shooting up her spine from the tender work of her, little servant.

She opened an eye, glancing down herself. Settled in the crescent shape of her chamber she ha

Well, I get the feeling people have been waiting for this one...

As an aside, I'll take this moment to apologize for any inconsistancies that may start to appear in Dari's den. I try my best to avoid them, but part of making the place feel... involved, is throwing in characters I have ideas for into the background, and later showing their side. Sometimes I change my mind, or have a better idea, or forget what I had said... or find an idea was doomed from the start, but still like...

Variations of dragons are interesting change, and eastern dragons seem well suited for vore given that they are effectively large snakes.

I thought the other race of servants were an intriguing addition to the usual foray, and one that seems better off for eating and indeed reserved as such over humans.

Also like the sexual dimorphism regarding males and females.

When Zorian found time, between hunting, keeping her sister in check, patrolling the borders of her, territory for two, sleeping and of course, stalking the little morsels who walked a little too far from her sister’s protective wings she liked to settle on a crag that burst up from the trees, and idly watch the humans.

DrakeZephyr - 4 months ago

For most human's its a story, and the story of another people. I wouldn't say the stories the oldest civilisations in the real world have a powerful effect on my interpretation of animals I encounter, for example. Either because it's just a story with no emotional connection, or just because I question if it ever happened. Johan only knows the story intimately because he's an archeologist, for example. And bearing in mind, the dragon is dead (and killed himself) We get one side of the story. History is written by the winners. That's why every revolution that succeeded was a heroic struggle against tyranny and every one that fails was a vicious band of manipulative neer-do-wells motivated by greed or ignorance. And humans so fear, distrust, and sometimes hate dragons. Not because they are "assholes" but for the same reason mice run into a hole when a cat wanders into view. Desire not to be eaten.
And onto the revolution point... again, sorry, but I thought I made it clear this was town sized. I wouldn't call a small town a huge revolution, also humans whose peak of knowledge was stonework. And given that dragon's... particular nature, building was probably way ahead of their other technologies. Sorry to wax on... but, I do feel you're more focussed on a point you want to make than whether or not the details of the story are in line with it...

No offense but this stuff about the ancient dragon kind of proves why humans shouldn’t exactly have a lot of respect for the species? Reushin shows that it takes huge revolutions just to bring ONE of them down. Humans are kind of right to fear, dissed trust, and hate dragons. Because they seem to all be assholes to some degree.

There were several little villages around the mountain officially known as George’s Compass. The name went back to the explorer who first ventured into the rich forests of the east. In unknown lands, the distinctive, high peak had become a powerful point of reference, hence the name. It helped that the spire was so very sharp. The mounds of rock and rubble that surrounded the spire hinted

Life in the tower was, Gerald would grudgingly admit, peaceful. Yet somehow it was also, exciting… if a frightening sort of exciting. His life was simple. He rose, he groomed the dragoness, he ate lunch, and groomed her again. The people were invariably… pleasant, if not the most interesting to talk to; their only topic of interest was often the very dragoness they groomed most of their days. The

For what it’s worth, I never got the criticism myself- was allways intrested.
I’ve actually been having a few intresting moral debates over telepathy/nudging other’s minds/emotional balance with a friends charicter- their charicter found the standardised practise of telepathic interrogation during legal proceedings in Gantra’s former territory alarming, even with assurances that it was solely intended to discern the truth of the matter, rather than just making a decision on the believebility of both parties claims. The little thing was very conflicted, even knowing this mean the vast streamlining of the legal profession AND a massive drop in the number of lawyers...

Life in the tower was one of routine, and despite himself, Gerald fell into that routine. In the morning he woke casually enough, rose to help the others maintain their own corridors, rooms, the places away from the dragons, then they groomed the dragoness while she had her lunch. Then she flew, he’d taken time to watch her once… she was radiant, but more to the point, it was a time when she wasn’t watching the door… Then after lunch he had time for himself, most, seeme

The much anticipated finale (for now) of this fun little trilogy getting to know Chandra. On a lonely road, a little trading band will meet a beast no traveller ever hopes to encounter, huge, scaly, and eager to carry them off to her lair...

Originally I was going to call it The Inn: Chandra, but that seemed too obvious.

The nest of the dragoness Chandra… did have its perks. That much Leo could easily admit. Strictly to borrow of course, she had allowed him to make use of any of her “human things”. It seemed mutually beneficial. He got to dig through discarded packs for blankets, hard biscuit, water. He even found a brush to do his hair and nicer clothes to fit him. She, got to watch, and she did watch. He felt her gaze intensely when he handled anything. He could imagine seeing her trinkets b

Sequel to "The Indomitable Fence" and not to be the last as the relationship between dragon and village is further described and explored. Relatively short, this one... ironically, the reason it's taken me so long to post it, was because I was trying to make it longer... I'm thinking, I might try to do three more... not necessarily all done in the same "year" but taking in four seasons.

Anyway, I hope this meager addition is liked by most

DrakeZephyr - 2 years ago

To be fair if I was going to define my dragons in terms of mindsets of animals we're familiar with today, I'd be most likely to define them as something akin to a sentient cat. They're not deeply social, but are capable of it when it benefits them, rarely seek out others for the sake of contact, but don't dislike it if it comes their way. But due to sheer appetite they can't even be that social... so, in that way they're like birds. They form strong bonds with a mating partner and young, but these things can be transient, not eternal, depending. And like both of these examples, and like many reptiles, they are decidedly territorial. Basically, long story short, I see their acceptance of human presence, for the same reason cats do, because it benefits them... but yes, the end fact is, whatever I set the norm for my dragons as, those who didn't have a mild curiosity in humans wouldn't have compelling stories. I like to see curiosity as one of those things that can truly be attached to sentience, to a degree. Near as I can tell it's our strongest feature beyond anything more, innately human, and most of the other species of highest intelligence are defined by curiosity... so, basically... the dragons aren't human, but, they are capable of curiosity, enough that they might put hunger aside to explore humans. That's how I view it anyway.

byzantine27 - 2 years ago

I thought about it some more and realized the real reason I can find your dragons disturbing. They fall right in the center of my Uncanny Valley, in terms of their thoughts and behaviors. Too human to be truly other, too other to be human.

You can argue you don't mean them to be human at all, but You've given them some fairly important human traits. You say they aren't social... yet in many of your stories they will happily spend time around humans, not as predator and prey, but what amounts to socializing, they act more like anti-social humans than they do solitary hunters. Of course writing a story where they act like a real solitary species (who can hardly stand the presence of their own long enough to mate, let alone other species that might be considered even a mild threat) would be quite boring since the fun of it is in the interactions.

Oh, and since I know I tend to come off as harsher than I mean to, This is more a statement about me than it is about your writing. It's a matter of my perception and definition of "human". Ergo, your writing is fine, I'm just weird.

DrakeZephyr - 2 years ago

Well... thanks, I think. Generally, I do try to find things, be it dragons... or, the concept of dark vs light and try to look at it objectively, and try to show it in a different way, to... well, show the reality, basically, rather than reinforce the standard, stereotyped perception. The sort of judgements most people don't even think about

byzantine27 - 2 years ago

Honestly I think the real "problem" so to speak is that all of us are outsiders looking in, and none of including you can really wrap their heads around an entirely non-human point of view. Our minds simply don't work that way. Not to say you do a bad job of it. If you did I don't think people would even bother trying to debate it.

So we try to convert it to something we can understand, but because this process is imperfect to say the least serious differences are inevitable. I believe I've made my point of view known in the past to be about the same as saint's. But in the end we can only try to understand it as we are.

It makes a sort of sense that dragon would hold sacred the thing I despise more than anything. After all, every good and every evil can be traced back to the nature of the world and thus to the most basic of rules. That rule set seems very tilted against good, in fantasy and reality. But to those who can accept the world as it is, flaws included, that would be something worth holding dear.

But really these debates should be taken as encouragement. The reason most authors don't trigger them is because they don't bother trying to do a world a grey, and you've done a very good job of it. And we can't help but want to push back the darkness in the grey as much as we can.

DrakeZephyr - 3 years ago

It is a rather sticky topic, of course... one that can become quite heated. I'm just happy that it didn't devolve into into insults and accusations of character... ^^; I've had this conversation many times before...

In a time when hunting and crafts
bore the days of the people, and stories were the mainstay of their
evenings, naturally, the local dragon gained a place of honour in
many. Stories told and retold, some true, others imaginations of the
creative.
So John found himself walking up the
mountain path, following a tale that was told in his region, of
asking the favour, of the dragon. The tales of begging favours of the
dragon, or even, any dragon was mixed. One thing they all agreed, was
that when as

Ah, yet another of my uninspired titles ^^; Ah well. Here I offer something a little light, the vore is soft, but I think it's an amusing tale. Evening had descended on the small
lakeside town. It had no official name, but was referred to as The
lakeside town. Such a large settlement was uncommon enough, that any
who had seen it, knew of it by that title. The younger generation
rising up, had taken to calling the place A’hur’s bay, which few
contested. The sea dragon who had near inexplicably found himself
trapped in their lake had certainly captured the hearts of the
people… but that eve their guardian was nowhere in sight since

The eye of the storm, it was a term
the fishermen spoke with fear. To them, it meant two things, both
equally frightening. Normally they spoke of the true storms that
swept across the water during their season, but it was also a term
they used for something that terrified them equally, but was far more
lethal than even those storms. To be caught, in the eye of the storm,
also meant to have one’s boat trapped, in the swirling waters
brought about when a sea dragon circled them, hunting, either

Time was a funny thing; weeks could
feel like days, or a lifetime. The days of under a month ago could be
like another, impossible life. It had been three weeks before, give
or take, that Jace had been dragged into the dragon divers, so about
two weeks or so since he had flown from the arena with Sunset, or
Sunrise as they had decided he should call her now. He’d been with
her longer during this time than the whole while in the arena, but

with demanding eyes as if the object could cry out its importance.
Rope, dried foods, a set of new daggers, spare clothes, her best
arrows and lastly, what she dwelled on the most, one of her brother’s
little carvings. It was of a dragon, of course… it was carved of
oak, really quite well done s

This took much, much longer than intended, my writing motivation sags alongside the view:comment ratio oddly enough. Anyway, despite that, I took my time, tried to make this one decent so I hope you all enjoy the story, the scenario, and the further insight to my primary dragon.

The day had been clear but it was

time when humans drew in towards their homes, seeking their fire for
fear of the dark. A fear well earnt, for two of the denizens of the

Merinith snorted faintly, an

DrakeZephyr - 3 years ago

Well, most dragons in my world (though I tend to write about the exceptions, because they're more fun) don't have much thought on humans. Not cruel, nor loving... purely predatory and prey, never exchanging words or such, their interests are elsewhere. To Merinith, humans are a hobby

The dragon glides, on
tender wing
Circling his lands, a
wide cast ring
Eyes are sharp, and
ears do twitch
Below a tiny sound,
just barely an itch
Yet his senses are
fine, even that they can hear
and so down he spirals,
stirring cries of deep fear
The day, downcast and
rainy
moistened soil, fine
and grainy
A landslide, no mistake
but such disaster in
its wake
Careful steps saw the
dragon land
turning head, to spy a
hand
The struggling morsel,
small and sweet
A pup of humans, such
easy meat
