Actually, the Maenads had a lot of defects. Losing control of a summon was enough to kill them, while the real summoners of Myst died when their Eidolons were killed. The mass produced ones were even younger than Rydia's physical age from when she rescued the party from Golbez at Gott. Plus, none of the Maenads could resume control of the summons they captured. To top it all off, none of them used Black Magic. No matter how you look at it, they were weaker than Rydia in every possible way. The only reason Rydia couldn't stop them was that they somehow went from simply "summoning" Eidolons to sticking an Eidolon at a location and pressing it's berserk button.

Don't be too sure. Just because they copied the ability doesn't mean they have the end result. Rydia will have been powering up for years. An instantly made mass produced copy won't have those results. Also, it's been hinted that the Maenads powers are actually inferior to Rydia's. They can only seem to command one summon at a time, and hell they don't even have full control. Look what happened when they tried that crap with Odin!
