Inside the small mouse burrow, laid a
small mouse. That would be reasonable enough, except she looked
neither safe nor secure (the typical feeling a rodent would have in
their burrow). No, she instead looked nervous; shaking and sitting
awkwardly on her tail-end.
Her eyes strained with disbelief, mouth
agape, ears fallen low. She had just discovered something most
unpleasant, the face of a serpent gazing back at her. At least,
that's what she had thought it was at first glance. The face wasn't

A
cold wind and a light haze drifted low through the forest's floor.
All was dark. All was still. A night as any other. It was a time for
the creatures of day, to rest, and a time for the creatures of night,
to flourish. It was rare for one world, to step into the other, only
under the greatest of extremes.
"She's

low squeak. "Come on!" came another. A doe mouse could be

It was a sunny day, as the little
mouse anthro made her way down a line of roots at the edge of a
field, eyes bright, whiskers twitching as she looked across the open
field. It would be unusual to see a doe out alone far from any mouse
colony, particularly a doe whose robes couldn't quite conceal the
curves of a rodent who was far better fed than most. Despite her
vulnerability, she looked as though she didn't have a care in the
world. Sure, she kept to the roots and took care whenever she

A shy little mouse wearing white robes crept along a rocky path. A
plump little rodent who’d be considered a delectable catch by most
of the meat eaters in the forest, her meekness was understandable,
especially as she was creeping into the territory of a huge notorious
python. Whiskers twitched as she scented the air, and scanned back
and forth. . . . no. . . no python nearby. She’d learned her lesson

The mouse’s steps were heavy, and her expression unusually somber
as she made her way home. It was tempting to dwell on her meeting
with her love that morning. But she was alone in the woods, and
survival must come first. Long honed habits, and occasional reminder
to herself that her love would want her back whole once he’d fed,
ensured she’d keep her head up, keep glancing back and forth, keep
paying attention to the outside world. She vaguely wished a fox would
come after her, or some s

Walking tall, well, as tall a she could, staff in paw, the mouse made
her way up to the familiar gnarled tree looming against the horizon.
It had been over a week since she’d made the journey, and while she
had told him about the gazelle, she expected he’d be wondering why
she’d been away so long--well, she had mentioned the gazelle to
him. She’d purposefully come early, and so she waited a while,
nibbling a berry. The territory around the owl’s tree was rich with
nuts and berries, all

The grey rat would shake his head,
sighing long. This conversation was clearly taking its toll. His ears
were drooped, his head was lowered, eyes getting to be a little
heavy. One by one, the white mouse before him, named and described
members of his family. Not ones she had seen personally. No, most
listed would probably have thought to hunt the mouse should they have
crossed her. Instead the account was taken from another source: A
cat, which had claimed them.

It was late in the morning, the sun’s
light shining quietly over a small pond. A pond, a source of water so
near the forest, would usually be gathering of life. Small creatures
all about, wishing to drink, eat or rest. And yet, there would look
to be only but a few instincts buzzing abou, with no birds near to
claim. The nest which rested just beside the waters, could be thought
to blame. Anyone who ventured close enough would know the area was
territory for a large serpent. Those among large f

The day would still be bright, but the
sun would be low in the sky when the mouse made her way through the
lush grass that lead to the eagle owl’s nest. She’d pause to
appreciate the sight, head leaning back. This time she wasn’t as
nervous. She had an invitation after all, unlike four days ago. Even
so, she naturally felt herself straightening with respect at the
sight of the gnarled crooked tree.

It
was early in the morning, and the burrow walls were cold, so early
that only the a barely distinguishable light coming through the
cracks of the burrow entrance would reveal it was morning at all. The
cold would ameliorated by the presence of a furry rabbit, together
with a thick layer of fur, a mix of mouse and rabbit, lining the
floors. The burrow as clean and highly civilzed, with containers of
water, a large wash bowl, and bags of food stored neatly in a corner.

It was a peaceful afternoon. Wandering
birds chirped contently. The clouds were undarkened. And the sun

It was late in the morning, a
relatively peaceful one. The sun, wouldn’t shine quite as bright as
it would on most days for the forest, instead just a little clouded.
Laid near a pond, could be seen a large python with soft tan scales.
It would be a strange sight to find a snake out, ‘basking’ on a
rock with no great warmth to take in. He’d look to have fed
recently, and. . . an especially large meal at that: His form was
practically bulging to the point of discomfort. The serpent would

Staff in her paw, the mouse yawned as
she worked her way up the hill towards the secret entrance of her
burrow. She hadn’t slept well, and was tired, but that didn’t
mean she wasn’t cautious; after all it was critical to be sure one
wasn’t being followed anytime one returned to one’s burrow. She’d
peer about, before making her way to the entrance. She was looking
forward to seeing Jack again. After a night in Morathi’s lair, she
craved some fuzzy bunny goodness. And she felt a litt
