Thaddeus grunted softly, sweat beading his brow, muscled shoulders working as he pulled the bit of the axe from the trunk of the tree, neat chips falling from the wedge and into the growing pile at the base. Bracing himself on his splay legged stance, he swung again, sinking the head and biting another shower of chips from the wood. Keeping his legs wide, he stepped around for a better angle, heavy weight swaying beneath him, oversized testes bumping his inner thighs, and the overladen pocket of his sheath sagging slightly, wobbling side to side with each swing, every movement as he worked.
He could feel Kaitlin there, tucked away, out of sight, but never out of mind. He could tell she was awake right now, her subtle shifting within the humid pocket, bracing herself when he moved. It was different than when she was asleep, then she was limp, and almost... almost he could forget she was there, almost normal again, he just felt... bigger in those moments. But then she'd awake, she'd stir, she'd peek out and peer around curiously a moment before retreating again, and Thaddeus would smile, pausing long enough at whatever his task was at the time to give her a light clench, a gentle embrace, the velvet walls around her constructing for a moment before he relaxed and set back to work.
As awkward as it could be at times to heft around her increased bulk, sac swinging, bumping his thighs, threatening to drag over brush and branches at times, he didn't think he'd take the alternative. Had the hag not bound them, joined them, permanently, immutably, then they likely wouldn't have had each other at all... Kaitlin would have been dragged away by her family, Thaddeus driven out by his clan, and then both... both would have been alone, but now? Now there was no such thing as alone.
Clenching gently around her, he smiled to himself, coming to enjoy the extra weight, the little movements and especially, her voice. If he had to carry her then so be it, if he had to care for her as well as himself, then let it be so. Little by little they were adjusting to their new life together, oddities becoming normalities, some normal things now difficult, but neither of them had ever been known to quit.
The stallion's thoughts were interrupted as the telltale creeking groan emanated from the tree trunk, slowly tilting, angling just the direction Thad had wanted into a gap in the clearing. Stepping quickly back he watched as the tree fell, crashing through limbs, to land with a heavy, crunching thud. His eyes flicking back towards his flank, he felt the opening of his sheath stretch, Kaitlin emerging, head and shoulders peering out at the downed tree bound for the mill Thad had an arrangement at to earn their coin.
"Hurrk!" Kaitlin gagged softly as Thaddeus gave her a playful squeeze constricting the sheath around her neck and throat, her fist thumping his underbelly. "What was that for?"
"Cuz I could," Thad rumbled, shouldering his axe and looking up at the fading light of late afternoon. Technically there was still plenty of time left in the day but with the mountains on either side of them, the shadows drew in early, and they were still a fair way from home. "I think we'll head in for now, I can piece this up tomorrow," he sighed, stepping through and over the debris of other felled trees, fallen limbs and scattered leaves to pick up his work bag. It clinked softly with files and sharpening stones, a heavy buck saw strapped to one side, and a water skin. Uncorking the container, he took a long deep drink of the icy liquid, still cold from the stream and the root hollow he'd set it in.
"Can I get a drink too?" Kaitlin tapped at his side, spilling a little further out from the confines of her sheath. Twisting on himself, Thad hiked his hind leg up as he stretched towards her, Kaitlin taking the water skin, and bringing it to her own lips. His fur bristled at the chill. He still wasn't sure how he felt about this part of their arrangement. He'd do anything within his power to make her happy, but the icy shock of cold water, running the wrong way down his length... He could feel every inch of it and... as it seemed Kaitlin no longer had a stomach, anything she drank, or ate, settled in their balls.
The sac crinkled, clenching against his groin as the chill settled into them, seeming to pour in under the skin, his muscles tensing. His entire body shook once as the chill overtook him, Kaitlin finally ending her drink with a soft gasp. "I didn't get one after the last piss..." she huffed, handing the water skin back up to Thad, the bottle notably lighter. "Yeah yeah, I wanted to get that last one on the ground and then forgot." He smirked softly, slinging the skin over his shoulder, and the work bag over his back. "I'll make something nice for dinner and set out some new books for you tonight, will that make it up to you?"
"It's a start," Kaitlin mused thoughtfully, withdrawing back into him, sheath closing over her breasts, arms folding along the outside edge and watching the ground pass beneath them. "Leave out some honey cakes and then you'll really be forgiven!" That sweet musical laugh drifted up towards the stallion and he shook his head with a defeated sigh.
"I'll do what I must~"
