Fodlan: Edelgard Path 21

Thank you all for your patience. I was busy yesterday like I said and at the end of the day while I could have wrote was just too tired.

Edelgard fulfills Petra's request before going off to enjoy some time with her lovers. But Petra eager to test out her new powers underestimates them and is found out by the Ashen Wolves who have words for Edelgard. Hubert and Monica as always offer Edelgard some ideas on how to handle the situation.

So funny thing was I gave Petra the chance to be stealthy and it wasn't a hard roll but on a mild failure she would be discovered by a few people but on a massive failure or crit fail she would run into a tree and be discovered by the Ashen Wolves. Guess what happened. Oh Petra. Btw the pred score drop has already been taken into account for the final score at the end of the sheet this time

On more thing, for the disgruntled nobles debuff that is a tier one debuff. You can see that it can be made worse if you stack it. While that debuff is active I will be doing a few things but perhaps the most concerning and immediate is potential rebellions ESPECIALLY if the pred bar drops too low.

Hope you are all still having fun. I know I am enjoying writing these.

Yeah that is fair with the wolves. It would have been nice to have stated the reasoning for getting ridbof Yuri to them but I could definitely see all of them having issues with that due to the fact that they are more exposed to certain dangers.

Also now I picture Petra flat out wile e. Coyote-ing herself into a wall.

Balthus. D. I would like Edelgard to tell him that she understands why he feels the need to go just so he understands that he goes with some Edelgard's acceptance. If that makes sense. Maybe discourage him from trying to take a job to cause us issues in the future.

Constance. E. This would probably secure constance's loyalty for a while and it puts Edelgard's uncles lands in the hand of someone who would be grateful. Unfortinately she hasn't had a specific chance to shine or it would have made sense to make her court mage also or instead.

Hapi. C. I'm sure we could find a way to make it up to Hapi and maybe find a way to get closer to Dimitri also.

Myson. B. Deal with him, rebuild the opera and hopefully things settle down for a while.

Garreg Mach. A. This one does feel a touch odd. If I remember hopes correctly Rhea effectively ended the school year for all of the student's so they could lead their nations. I wouldn't say this is turning our back on the church as at this point we could probably start tofulfill our oath and start rebuilding the church in adrestia as vague as that is.

It did occur to me during the course of this chapter that if we hadn't fed Cornelia to Sheze a few chapters ago we could have fed Yuri to her. Since we wouldn't have inown about Petra going on the hunt at that time. Give sheze the power of Zoom!

Ghost of Yuri watching Petra faceplant into the tree: Mee-meep!

As for Garreg Mach, you are correct. In game Rhea closes it down so each leader is able to focus on rebuilding their nation but, hey, this is its own thing. The purpose of going back to Garreg Mach is for you guys to have more personal interactions with the various characters from the other houses. This means if a character hates you they more chances to nom you or if they love you more chances for it to go somewhere. This also extends to your house members. Staying in Adrestia is more canon to Scarlet Blaze but focuses more on war and or diplomacy. The more personal interactions being more limited to the Eagles interacting with each other.

On Garreg Mach. That is fair and it might give us the potential chance to more directly win over more people and secure our relations with Claude and Dimitri. I think I will change this to B.

Now to go back and get an idea who might have issues with us.

Also still enjoying this granted some of these have me sitting and thinking about how a decision could come back to bite us. Although some have obviously been just send it and see where the dice roll.

Constance: E
Hapi: C
Myson: tricky, I see the merit in B, but those debuffs scare me; so C
Garreg Mach: I want to say we need to return to Adrestia, but I feel if we do, the church will be calling for Byleth's return. so B

Edelgard: We cannot properly rule if we do not see the plight of our people!

Byleth: Rhea has called me back to the monastery.

Edelgard: I mean I’m sure the minister can convey it through letters. Education is important and should not be neglected.

Byleth leaves, only to arrive in Enbarr a week later carrying Rhea
Rhea: "This is just to rebuild and reestablish the Southern Church"
Edelgard: "Suuuuuuuuuuuuuure~"

Sorry to keep hounding you with questions, but this one is actually about mechanics. I’m working a system out, and was curious how you handled things like combat and charm?

Shadowbaron28

Posted by Shadowbaron28 1 month ago Report

No worries! Happy to help.

So for combat I look at character's stats and kinda pit them against each other in rolls.

So let's take Edelgard at the very start of the game with a strength score of 13. I divide that by two and we get 6.5. I round down to 6 so then I roll a d20 and let's say we get 8. So 6+8 is 14. Next I take the target and let's say their defense stat is 8 and luck stat is 6. Divide by 2 for 4 and 3. They roll a d20 and get 5. 5+4+3 is 12. So in this instance Edelgard hits and does 2 points of damage. Doing it this way allows stronger characters to still shine and weaker character to occasionally get super lucky. On critical hits, I bypass defense stats and double damage. The way I roll a crit is similar to above. If the character rolls a nat 20 on their attack it is automatically a crit and on a regular hit they reroll their d20 but this time using their luck stat.

Charm is used more for out of combat situations and does not have a scrict script but more a feel for what is fair. For example if the character is asking a small favor of a friend I might make the required check something small like 5 but a big ask from an enemy may require a nat 20.

These are not perfect systems but it gets the job done.

Slight correction, I meant Strength + Luck + Speed to hit vs Defense + Luck + Speed. Of course this is for physical hits. Just use things like magic and resilience for tomes users.

CelestialDissolve

Posted by CelestialDissolve 1 month ago Report

Interesting. And you use things like training or battle to raise these stats as the story progresses?

Shadowbaron28

Posted by Shadowbaron28 1 month ago Report

Pretty much. When I feel you guys have earned it I grant level ups and use the growths of characters to roll stat boosts or grant free stat boosts in certain situations.

CelestialDissolve

Thank you, this actually also helps with a little pet project I’ve had in the back of my mind for a while

CelestialDissolve

Posted by CelestialDissolve 1 month ago Report

Out of curiosity, where did you get these stats for friend and foe? Or did you assign them yourself

Shadowbaron28

Posted by Shadowbaron28 1 month ago Report

I made it up but basically I am tracking people on a relationship level. The better friends they are the easier the charm checks are.

CelestialDissolve

Posted by CelestialDissolve 1 month ago Report

That I guessed, I meant combat stats (unless you meant that too, in which case, sorry; I just remember that Eddie starts the game with 13 strength, and you said she started the cyoa with the same. Speaking of which, just to make sure I understood the example right: combat is character's str/2 + lck/2 + spd/2 + roll vs enemy's str/2 + lck/2 + spd/2 + roll?

Shadowbaron28

Posted by Shadowbaron28 1 month ago Report

Oh gotcha, yeah I just made up a random for on the spot for the example and yeah that is the formula I use plus I roll a dice to add on. A d20 to be specific

Shadowbaron28

Random foe*

CelestialDissolve

Posted by CelestialDissolve 1 month ago Report

Awesome, thank you.

Shadowbaron28

Posted by Shadowbaron28 1 month ago Report

Noticed a slight mistake you made sorry, it should be whoever is defending is using def/2+lck/2+spd/2

Only use strength if they are the attacking to hit or vore

Sheze had a nice night! get it, girl!
well, they all did except for the former viscount Gideon. though if you’ve gotta go…
it’s a good thing Sheze’s girlfriends are so resilient, especially if the Crest has a chance to proc when you really don’t need it to Dimitri it’s back to fuckin training lances until you learn to behave

the tree thing I swear to god
and I feel you. Snowmelt!Shez keeps fucking succeeding 1/16 shots to the point where she’s becoming clairvoyant. about kind of obvious stuff, but still, the derailing is real

Balthus: D
He’s not wrong, but also we absolutely cannot drain the coffers to pay this fucker’s debts.

Constance: F
Look I love Coco and I want the best for her but Arundel is sure to be a clusterfuck. And she’s pretty impulsive so should she be in charge of anything requiring like, a steady hand?
But she can serve fun blindingly bright rainbow tea all she wants as court mage!

Hapi: C
look we took Cornelia and fed her to our girlfriend we do owe her an olive branch

My(large, adult)son: C
we have these fuckers by the throat, yeah—but we’re not in a great position to do more than huck him away. it’s time to…

Garreg Mach: B
…go right back into the dragon’s lair! One of our girlfriends works there, and the other is a student—who knows if she’ll join our house, but that hardly matters at this point, does it?—and I want the game of cat and also cat to resume

Hehe yeah, the rolls always love to derail us. There almost was a successful pregnancy roll on Sheze if the choice to harem merge was chosen. Just imagine the day she would have had.

Eaten by one of the most sadistic bellies in Fodlan, rescued by your lover and brother who then basically spoon feed her to you while you are naked save for their cloaks, digest her for the crest offering the most physical prowess, have a sixsome with two of the reigning monarchs and the vessel of the goddess, leave carrying one’s child.

Sheze: I’m putting in some vacation time. I just want one normal week.

ScarletBellyache

Posted by ScarletBellyache 1 month ago Report

That’s a hell of a day for sure. Arval’s probably glad they’re with the other twin.

I’m imagining everyone coming back to school with like twelve pregnancies among them and Seteth realizes they never got around to sex ed.

Balthus: D He definitely has the right to be mad about how the Yuri situation was played out. But considering where we are money wise it won't do to buy out his debt.

Constance: I'm leaning F. Let her prove herself worthy of the position while we hopefully rebuild the land to some degree. At which point we could gift it to her for her loyalty to the empire.

Hapi: C We not only took away her retribution with Cornelia but also her friends life as well. (Not saying it wasn't deserved but they were still close.) It would be in our best interest to keep her happy. Especially if she becomes a consort of the King.

Myson: As unfortunate as it is to say C we just don't have the goodwill or the money currently to finish him off. If we can secure relations with Claude and Dimitri I'm sure we stand a better chance of storming their stronghold afterwards.

Garreg Mach: B We can use this as a opportunity to strengthen bonds. Although it is going back to the Dragon's Lair. I just hope we won't have much to do in Abyss as I don't think they will be too happy about the Yuri decision. At least until we can get Hapi and Coco back into good graces.

Shadowbaron28

Nothing wrong about going into the dragon’s lair so long as it doesn’t became the dragon’s mouth… then again maybe that’s what we want.

Balthus - D (I don't blame the guy for being pissed. However, at the moment I think it's best to leave him alone.

Constance - E (I wouldn't hate seeing her as court mage as well, but her complete favor isn't worth pissing off the nobility.)

Hapi - C (Do all we can to patch things up with her. It's even more vital considering her closeness with Dimitri.)

Myson - C ("We need more tax money to fight a secret ancient conspiracy. Trust me, bro." Myson's probably laying low right now anyway, so even pouring the extra money into catching him won't guarantee results.)

Garreg Mach - B (Efforts to build ties with other nations? Sounds like an even bigger mess when things finally blow up... so fun!)

Edelgard: We must raise taxes to destroy the last of the mole people who have secretly controlled our nation for a generation in their war against the lizard pope who has fabricated our religion and history!

Masses: …We should check Garreg Mach’s pipes for lead.
