This is a pic that was supposed to be just black and white (see WIP versions here: http://zanten.deviantart.com/art/Angry-dad-WIP-158314692 and http://www.elfwood.com/~vannama/Angry-dad-WIP.3554328.html ), but I decided to color it!
Please, any critique/suggestion how to make this piece better is acceptable, I would love to work on it more!

Story: Little nagaling from Frey's and Kalyan's hatch saw a fairy and wondered off into the forest where a few Centaur warriors spotted it and decided to kill it. Did Kalyan manage to save his child on time? I'm still thinking about it! :plotting:
Btw, in my stories, fairies are as big as a 3 year old children. :)

Inviting criticism upon yourself on the internet? Bold move, friend, but I'll try to be helpful.

What is the time frame of the arrows hitting? If that shoulder happened in the last second, it may be more 'realistic' if he winced a bit, Raeg or not. If the arrow hit awhile ago, maybe have the arm droop a bit. That's about as useful as I can be without knowing more about your take on naga's features.

Also maybe the vine with the slug on it is not touching anything 'on screen' so it has no point of reference other than its bigger than the fairies. Could be a 4 ft slug really close to the background.

actualy that slug kinda made me do a double take too. It's a little hard to pind down isn't it.

Yeah, it is.
Any particular suggestion how to fix it?

well it's not so much a critique as an observation. even in high def photos, it can be dificult to gage the distance of something like that. I thing your work is good and the slug thing is a litte knit-picky.

That said, I guess just put something that maybe slightly obscures your view of it, like a blade of grass, that could be used as a point of reference. but again the work is well done and the bug thing realy doesn't detract from the picture so much as tease the eye.

I hope this helps. :)

Actually, it was quite helpful, so I had an urge to reply to you right now!
So, first, thanx for stopping by! :D Second - I'll work on the "wince" right now, thanx for the notice! Third, fairies are big, but as you've said, the slug made it confusing. I didn't know how to emphasize that the slug is closer to the viewer and that Kalyan and all the background is further away. I'll try to darken the whole thing, and lighten the wine, but I'm not sure what else to do cause I don't have any experience in "closer-further" things. Should I blur the slug and the wine, so that enraged Naga remains in the main focus?
And, I'm still working on Naga features, but here's the basics that I have so far (and that still needs to be finished): http://s81.photobucket.com/albums/j208/zanten_von_yan/?action=view&current=Nagaanatomy.jpg
