I'm not sure, it's all such a cliche, you know? I've been sure for YEARS that Shenzi from The Lion King was male; that Tweetie from WB was female, that a lot of anime chars were female while they were actually male. If you look closer, my gryphon still has some eyelashes, I wouldn't give them to a male gryphon.

I think the issue is that Goldy has no "tertiary sexual characteristics" and therefor most viewers default to male.
