Part 1- The Accidental Monster

My name is Bradley, and I was born in Kakariko Village, a small but pleasant city east of Hyrule Castle. Life was simple back then, I helped watch the livestock, listened to old folk tales, and played simple games by myself. Even back then, I was a loner, mostly avoiding the other kids, maybe playing a prank or to, and always observing my surroundings. When I was nineteen, however, an unexpected event would change my life forever. My mom had wanted me to find work, and I had, only the job I took was a little unconventional. North of the village was a forest known as the Lost Woods, an enchanted sea of trees that legend told of faeries living within the dense foliage. Although I had never seen any faeries, there was a kind old witch who lived just within the forest. She lived there making potions, using the mushrooms that were exclusive to the forest to empower her magical brews. It was there, in her shop, that I found a job, gathering mushrooms around the forest to complete her potions.
Working at the shop had been great, I heard all sorts of tales from the old witch, as well as learning of different topics when a traveler would happen in. The wise old witch's apprentices, being very cute, also taught me many things. One day, I was asked to seek out a very special fungi that grew in only one part of the forest. This fungi lay very close to a portal to the Dark World of legend, and the evil rays that radiated out of the portal warped the fungus around it and caused a new type to emerge. Old lady Syrup, as that was what she was known as, warned me to beware the portal, for if I was to wander into it, I would be drawn into the Dark World, from which there is virtually no escape. I assured the witch that I would be careful, and set off into the woods, following her directions carefully as to not get lost. That was to be my last day I would ever see my mom, the old witch, or any of the townsfolk again.
An hour into my search, I was beginning to grow weary, and I had taken so many turns, I wasn't sure if I would be able to make it back before nightfall. I was just about ready to turn back, when my surroundings suddenly became a little darker. The trees and flowers were of odd shades of colors, and I knew that I must be close. After another five minutes, I found my query; sticking out of the ground a few yards away was a shimmering, dark blue mushroom. Excited that I had finally found it, I rushed to root it from the ground, and that was when I saw her. It must have been a faerie corrupted by the dark waves, for it's hair and clothes were a dark purple. With a mischievous giggle, she darted further into the woods, past a group of trees. Perhaps it was the enchanting beauty of the creature, or the rarity of her species, but whatever the reason, I followed the little fey, forgetting my quest and the warnings of the old witch. The trees I passed where twisted in chaotic angles, and the ground seemed to form a spiral shape, yet I followed the feminine laugh of the tiny creature. So absorbed in my pursuit, I didn't even notice it when I stepped onto a shimmering, blue patch of ground. A funny feeling suddenly washed over me, and the forest began spinning around me. Stopping dead in my tracks, I keeled over, my hands on my stomach, as the world span around me, nausea forming within me. First my body, then everything, began glowing in a white, wavy light, and the last thing I heard before blacking out was the mysterious giggles of that darn faerie.
Legends tell of an omnipotent and all powerful force once residing within the boarders of the dark world. If one with a good heart touches the force, the world would enter an age of prosperity and peace. If one with an evil heart touches it, the world would fall into chaos, and darkness would spread throughout the land. Millennia ago, an evil man by the name of Ganon entered the land and obtained this powerful relic, and the world was shrouded in the darkness stemming from his heart. Although a boy eventually entered the Dark Land and defeated the vile Ganon, ending his evil influence, the Dark World remained corrupted by his evil wishes, and was sealed off from the Light World, Hyrule. In a similar fashion as the magic of the relic, the body of ones who enter this cursed land are changed based on the feelings and desires within their hearts. The Dark World is a twisted reflection of the land of light, and as such, any who enter it will become a twisted reflection of the person they once were.
I had heard the legends of the Dark World as a child, but had never desired to actually enter within it's cursed borders. Waking from the nausea induced slumber, I was shocked to realize my surroundings were much different from before. Although I was still within a forest, the trees where gnarled and sickly, looking almost demonic or possessed. Fearfully, I began making my way through the forest, hoping to find an answer to the sudden change of surroundings. Occasionally, a patch of leaves above me would be missing, revealing an ominous red sky overhead. I was really worried now, and I was trembling deeply. Eventually, I encountered a small, shrub like creature gathering nuts from the ground. Noticing me, it asked what I was. I asked it what it meant, hadn't it ever seen a human before. It began laughing at me, causing an unknown fear to rise within me. After calming down from it's laughter, it walked over to me and said that I may have been human once, but I am not any longer. Glancing down at myself, I nearly fainted again at what I saw. My body was covered in tattered robes, completely concealing me, even my hands where covered in the brownish cloak. Feeling my face, it seemed to be covered in a bird like mask, feathery, and with a beak for a mouth. What were once long, chubby arms and legs were now scrawny, stick like limbs that protruded from my cloaked body. Adding to my horror, I realized that I had shrunken to less than half my size, now standing just under three feet in height. As I slowly realized what had happened, that I was in the fabled Dark World, I stood silently in fearful shock, wondering what my fate would hold.
