The future is bleak. Cities span what parts of the globe are still fit to live in. There are no crops. Air is filtered by machine, carbon sequestered from carbon dioxide, food paste made in factories, water cleaned by pumps. Meat is all but forgotten. Almost every kind.
The meat collectors are registered as bounty hunters, but they don't chase bail skips - they stalk the leanest, the most succulent, the healthiest humans. There are those who are rich, who tire of food paste, who want to taste something natural - and they don't ask where that steak or fillet came from - not if they don't want to see those glowing blue eyes following them across a catwalk.
There is no hope for one that the meat collector has selected. They might as well give up, but they never do. They are chased tirelessly, cornered, captured, and devoured whole and alive, sent down the automaton's slick, lubricated throat to the belly where the processing can begin. The meat collector gobbles their prey eagerly, because they only need produce a few clean pieces of red meat to make the hunt worth their while, and they have fuel needs of their own...

For JohnV who asked for a jackal-type head atop a geth-like body with a big belly. This turned out better than I'd thought, actually!

I've been thinking a bit about mechanical predators. I may never do anything with them, but the idea intrigues me.

I think the key has to be finding that cusp where the creature is emotionally in accessible, but not quite impersonal. Somewhere between reptile and blender.

Between a reptile and blender? ROFLMAO, but an apt description of what a sentient mechanical predator should be *nods, grinning*

Never thought robots and vore would mix. Especially in a way that did not involve massive amounts of viscera. Cool.
Posted by 4ofSwords 10 years ago Report
All of the viscera is still there - it mostly just stays inside the person. ;)

The description is what sold me to this concept. A relentless, unfeeling non-organic creature is quite the monster.

Nice robot. and lovely read. Future crapsack worlds are one of my all times favorites. :D

I didn't want to take the description too far or push this one into the realm of the gory given the commissioner's tastes, but I couldn't help but imagine what sorts of horrible things might be happening inside the meat collector's 'processing plant' - especially if it suits them for the prey to remain alive for as long as possible (yay freshness!) while they are being harvested. Nobody else needs to worry themselves with it, though, as long as the belly is sound-proofed. The occasional jostle from inside would seem completely natural.

The worst horrors are those that go unseen and are left to the imagination. You hit this lovely with this one ^^

I would imagine that some might dabble in the organ trade on the side. Life may be cheap enough to eat, but hearts are still hard to come by!
Posted by 4ofSwords 10 years ago Report
Good point! Maybe they pick their mark based on a particularly needed organ, and the rest is all bonus!

Delicious, nutritious bonus!

Oh yes, you nicely stimulated my own imagination there. What Imrhys already said. :D
And I like the word 'harvested'. With the very idea how the prey waiting for it, well knowing there's no escape. Oh horrors.
