I practiced some different stylistic stuff for a project I'm working on for swallowtail. I'm not sure about the shading style I prefer, though, so I'd like a little input: Which do you prefer? The one of the left or the one on the right?

I like the one on the left more. I like how much clean the shading is.

I think the left one seems to work better with your drawing style.
However I must say you did a really good job capturing Stank's image there

I prefer the one on the right. It adds a lot more depth to the picture than the flat shading.

Left draws my attention more. The cleaner shading has an after affect of giving it a sort of "flare" style. I was actually kinda thinking of Jet set Radio only black/white.
The Pudge, Pants and Gloves accentuate it larger than the rest of the parts.

On the left, it's more comic like... I can't say I like it more then the right one, who looks way more realistic.

Tough call. I agree with the clearer on the left and more realistic on the right comments above, but I would also add another factor, the one on the left looks faster to do. So, using that as a tie breaker, I can't help but favor the style on the left.

I do prefer the one on the left because of the clean feeling it has, though some of the shading on the right gives it more depth. Particularly on the belly, certain spots on the clothing and around the neck. I feel the eyes on the right are also easier to view and I can't quite pin down why... The clean shading does work well with the ears as the right side looked to be the same tone at first glance.

I like he one on the right, really seems like you can tell better the shape of things on her, particularly the rounder parts of her with that shading.

Personally, I prefer the one on the left. I like the cartoony style better.
The one on the right looks too real for my tastes.

Good to know. It's funny: Eka's seems to prefer, in general, the one on the left, but Fur Affinity seems to prefer the one on the right. Weird. XD

Hmm. Maybe it's because what people on ekas want is weird enough that we take comfort in the fact that it can't be real. Anything that looks too real hops into the uncanny valley.
Because, if you think about it, living in a world where someone can randomly kill you mostly for fun and get away scot free is rather terrifying.

Possibly, but the folks who watch me on FA are also vorarephiles. I think it might just be the difference in art tastes that tend to appear on the two sites. FA folks have different artist icons than Eka's folks, so the model for what "good" art is is a little different.
Or I could be blowing smoke. Whatever. :D

The one on the left looks a bit cleaner I think. Airbrushing has a tendency to come off as dirty.

Stank and I wound up going with the one on the left, and largely for that reason. :)
